Activities Terrible joke time Take Folder Check Quiz Bingo Chips Lab Possibly finish notes from yesterday if we have time.
That s not even funny. Q: How does Avogadro write to his friends? A: By e-mole! Q: What is Avogadro s favorite Mexican dish? A: Mole
FTF Day 2 Feb 2, 2012 HW: 10.1 & 10.2, Moles Worksheet Topic: Molar Mass Questions none Activities Start a new folder, Take notes on molar mass, Begin Moles Wksh.
FTF Day 3 Feb 3, 2012 HW: Finish 10.1 &10.2 Topics Molecules Moles Grams Questions: Identify 3 complex units of measurement and 3 simple units of measurement.
FTF Day 4 Feb 6, 2012 HW: Wear closed toed shoes Tues and Wed (Lab) Topic: Molecules Moles Grams Questions: Draw a concept map to illustrate the relationship between the following words. Mole Mass Molecules representative particles Avogadro s Number Molar Mass Atoms grams per mole
Activities Terrible Joke Time Make a concept map with key terms Practice problems on worksheet for 10.1 and 10.2
That s Not Even Funny Q: Where does Avogadro stay on vacation? A: In a moletel. Q: How would you describe a stinky chemist? A: Mole-odorous
Also on Pg. 303
FTF Day 5 Feb 7, 2012 HW: Finish Worksheet 10.1 and 10.2 Topics: Chew Gum Questions: How many molecules are in one mole of water? How many atoms are in one mole of Helium? How many atoms are in one mole of water? (Be Careful!!)
Activities Discuss Worksheet 10.1 and 10.2 Update Table of contents Chewing Gum Lab
Balanced Equations 2 H 2 O 2 H O 2 2 Al + 3 Cl 2 2 AlCl 3 4 NH O 2 6 H 2 O + 4 NO 2
FTF Day 6 Feb 8 HW: none Topics: Conversions Questions: How many molecules are in 1 mole of NaCl? How many atoms are in 1 mole of NaCl?
FTF Day 7 Feb 9, 2012 HW: Moles, Molecules, and Grams (Friday) Quiz Friday on conversions. Topic: Conversions Question: Plants bodies are mostly made of carbon that comes from carbon dioxide. What percentage of the mass of CO 2 comes from Carbon? (Molar mass of Carbon / Molar mass of CO 2 ) x 100
FTF Day 8 (Sub was here) Complete 10.3 and questions
FTF Day 9 Feb 14, 2012 HW: Check Harmony to make sure all work is turned in. Topic: What does a mole look like? Question: Pick one analogy for a mole from the song and write it down.
Activities Have a happy valentines day! Listen to song A mole is a unit Discuss lab Activity A why we need moles. Finish lab Hand back papers
Analogy for why we need moles A chemical equation is kind of like a recipe. If I were making cookies and I added 8 times too much flour, I wouldn t make very good cookies. We need to know how to measure out moles just like we need to know how to measure flour for making cookies. Since we can t count out atoms, we count the moles. That will ensure we have the right RATIO of Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen for this recipe.
What is a mole Listen to song (The video is really weird.. sorry) Start at :25 Seconds
FTF Day 10 Feb 15, 2012 HW: none Topics: 10.3 molecular vs. empirical formula, % composition Questions: none
FTF Day 11 Feb 16, 2012 HW: % composition & empirical formula wksh (Due Monday) Topics: % composition & empirical formulas Questions : none
FTF Day 12 Feb 17, 2012 HW: % Composition and Empirical Formulas Wksh Topics: Calculating % composition Questions: How do you find your percent grade on a test? Write a formula. How can you relate that to the percent composition of a compound?
Percent Composition by Mass % = mass of 1 element / mass of the whole compound x 100 % = 2.02 g of H / g of water x 100 = 11.2% of the mass of H 2 O is made of Hydrogen
% = the part / the whole x 100 Test grades: % = # questions correct / total # of questions x 100
No FTF today (Monday) Feb 20, 2012 Wipe off table Take out: % composition wksh Calculator Put in the basket before you leave: 10.3 Assessment questions % composition wksh
NO FTF Today (Tue. 2/21) Substitute in for Mrs. Bankoff Activities include
FTF Day 13 Feb 22, 2012 HW: Finish Ch. 10 Section Review, Make clues card, study for test friday Topics: Ch 10 Review No Questions
Activities Finish Ch. 10 Section Review Create a Clues Card for test Turn in (if you haven t already 10.3 Assessment questions % composition wksh Ch. 10 Section Review
