When employee is initially assigned to a work area where hazardous chemicals are present AND Before assignments involving new exposure situations. Anytime there are changes to the OSHA regs (i.e. HazCom Update) 1
2 MAKE IT RELEVANT Information and training that ensures their awareness of the chemical hazards used in their work area. ~OSHA TOPICS TO COVER Contents of the occupational exposure standard and its appendices; Location and availability of the employer's chemical hygiene plan; PELs (permissible exposure limits) for the hazardous substances to which employees are exposed; Signs and symptoms associated with exposures to hazardous chemicals used in the laboratory; and Location and availability of known reference material on the chemical hazards, and their safe handling, storage, and disposal including, but not limited to, Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) received from chemical suppliers. Employers June 1, 2015* December 1, 2015 Compliance with all modified provisions of this final rule, except: The distributor shall not ship containers labeled by the chemical manufacturer or importer unless it is a GHS label. Chemical manufacturers, importers, distributors and employers June 1, 2016 Update alternative workplace labeling and hazard communication program as necessary, and provide additional employee training for newly identified physical or health hazards. Employers Transition period to the effective completion dates noted above. May comply with either 29 CFR (the final standard), or the current standard, or both.
