Discussions of solutions, acid-base chemistry, and properties of organic compounds provide the basis for introduction to the chemistry of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. The action of hormones, enzymes, and vitamins is included to provide an understanding of biological systems. PREREQUISITE: MA 091 or its equivalent and completion of one year of high school chemistry or CH 100A within the past five years with a grade of C or better, or consent of department. Auditors may take exams and quizzes; these will be marked, but not graded. 1

Classroom Policies: Attendance: You are expected to attend all classes. If you have more than two unexcused absences during the semester, you may be dropped from the class. Academic Honesty: You are expected to be honest in reporting your lab results and when taking any kind of tests. Any dishonesty in the classroom, such as copying someone else s results or using notes or books during testing, may result in a zero grade. Support Services: There are several support services available to help you in this course. These are available at the Science Learning Center and Library. A student who may need an accommodation due to a disability should make an appointment to see me during my office hours. A letter from Disability Support Services (DSS) authorizing your accommodations will be needed.
