3 Figure S2. TEM image of MNPs (13±2 nm) synthesized in the presence of 1,2 -HDIOL and oleic acid. Synthesis of spherical MNCs with average size of 21 nm. The mixture of Fe(acac) 3 (2 mmol), 1,2-HDIOL (8 mmol) and cyclopropanecarboxylic acid in benzyl ether (20 ml) were placed in a round bottom flask (50 ml) equipped with thermometer and reflux condenser. For removing of oxygen and trace amounts of water from reaction medium, the solution was warmed up to 130 C under argon flow and magnetic stirring and maintained for 1 h. Then the mixture was heated to 210 C with a rate about 10 C/min and kept at this temperature for 1 h. After that, the temperature was raised to 260 C with a rate of 10 C/min and kept at this temperature for 30 min. Then the source of heat was removed and solution was cooled down to the room temperature. MNCs were collected by centrifugation (6000 rpm, 30 min) after adding 10 ml of mixture 2-propanol hexane (v/v = 1/1). Finally, MNCs were redispersed in dichloromethane (20 ml) and stored at 4 C. S3
4 Synthesis of cubic MNCs with average size of 31 nm. The mixture of Fe(acac) 3 (2 mmol), 1,2-HDIOL (8 mmol) and 1-indanecarboxylic acid in benzyl ether (20 ml) were placed in a round bottom flask (50 ml) equipped with thermometer and reflux condenser.
