2 Synthesis of NC and DN hydrogels: Tests on water retention ability: 1. In LB: Note: The time of weighing: M0: , 16:30; M1: , 18.46; M2: , 15: In 0.9% NaCl aq: Note: a) The time of weighing: M0: , 16:30; M1: , 18.46; M2: , 15:21. b) The result might have been influenced by the following reasons: i. The sample of NC2-40 was broken into 2 pieces; ii. DN 20% was partly saturated with water before the test : Synthesis of DN (SA/AAm) 30% hydrogel: PICS! : Synthesis of NC (AAm/Laponite) and DN (SA/AAm) hydrogel:
3 : Tests on water retention ability: Note: a) The time of weighing: M0: , 13:35; M1: , 10:30; M2: , 13:14. b) NC3-40 (strip) was chosen for the following test: i. Put the gel in an oven to lose water, and at 13:32, Aug 25, take out and weigh the gel, getting M3. M3=3.46g. ii. Put the dried gel into water and weigh at 11:34, Aug 26, getting M4. M4=18.78g Synthesis of DN (agar/paam) hydrogel: 1. Strong: a) 50 ml deionized water: exclude bubbles (purging with nitrogen for 15 min and ); b) Add AAm g, and stir for 20 min; c) Add agar 0.85g, and stir for 10 min; d) Add BIS 0.015g, and stir for 10 min; e) Add Irgacure g, and stir for 5min; f) Vacuumize for 10 min, purge with nitrogen, and dissolve in 95 ; g) Coagulate in 4 for 30 min; h) UV (365nm) for 1h. 2. Tough: a) 50 ml deionized water: exclude bubbles (purging with nitrogen for 15 min and ); b) Add AAm 17.77g, and stir for 20 min; c) Add agar 0.65g, and stir for 10 min; d) Add BIS 0.02g, and stir for 10 min; e) Add Irgacure g, and stir for 5min; f) Vacuumize for 10 min, purge with nitrogen, and dissolve under 95 ; g) Coagulate under 4 for 30 min; h) UV (365nm) for 1h. Results: Too many bubbles; agar formed lumps at bottom (maybe the temperature was too high) Repeating the former experiments. Results: forming transparent, yellowish hydrogels. Some exhibited dark yellow color, possibly due to too long time under UV.
