1 1 st six weeks 1 Define anatomy and physiology. 2 Compare and contrast levels of structural organization. 3 Identify necessary life functions and essential needs and how they are related to homeostasis. 4 Identify and use directional and regional terminology for description of orientation. 5 Identify major body planes, cavities, and organs contained within the cavities. 6 Identify chemical interactions in living organisms which contribute to homeostasis. 7 Relate the processes of protein synthesis, replication, and mitosis, to the development of the structure and function of human cells.

2 2 nd six weeks 8 Describe chemical and physical interactions of the 4 main tissue types. Differentiate among the cell structures. 9 Compare and contrast three types of body membranes as to structure and function. 10 Describe major structural and functional components of the skin. 11 Recognize structural components of bone, from macroscopic and microscopic aspects. Recognize major skeletal structure of the human body. 12 Describe growth and developmental processes of bone growth in normal and abnormal circumstances. 13 Describe the relationship between the bones and accessory structures which form joints.

3 3 rd six weeks 14 Describe microscopic and gross anatomy of skeletal muscle, including location of major muscle groups. 15 Describe the microscopic and gross functioning of muscle tissue, specifically including sliding filament theory. 16 Describe structural and functional components of the central nervous system.

4 4 th six weeks 17 Describe structural and functional components of the peripheral nervous system. 18 Differentiate among the specialized cells of the sensory nervous system. 19 Describe the specific function of the eye, ear, nose, the taste and the touch. 20 Compare and contrast the function of the endocrine and the nervous system. 21 Locate major endocrine glands and relate the interactions of the hormones they produce with the maintenance of homeostasis. 22 Describe the structure of blood cells and the composition of whole blood. 23 Discuss the antigen/antibody reaction in blood typing and the potential hazards of transfusions. 24 Describe the structure and function of the heart from tissue level to organ level. 25 Identify the blood vessels of the body. Differentiate among the structure and function of the three types.

5 5 th six weeks 26 Differentiate lymphatic circulation from cardiovascular circulation, and discuss the relationship to the immune system. 27 Differentiate the origin, development, and eventual function of the cells of the immune system. 28 Describe the integration of the various components of the immune system in maintaining homeostasis. 29 Describe the structure and the function of the major organs of respiration. 30 Describe the physical process of gas exchange at the tissue level in the lungs and the body tissues. 31 Discuss the origin effect and treatment of respiratory disorders.

6 6 th six weeks 32 Identify the organs of digestion and describe how they interact in the overall function of digestion. 33 Discuss the relationship between nutrition and metabolism and how they affect homeostasis. 34 Describe the essential and accessory organs of the urinary system. 35 Discuss the physical and chemical processes involved in the microscopic function of the nephron. 36 Describe the structure and the function of the male reproductive system, differentiating between the essential and accessory organs of reproduction. 37 Describe the structure and the function of the female reproductive system, differentiating between the essential and accessory organs of reproduction.
