1 BEGONIA CHATTER Astro Branch American Begonia Society 4513 Randwick Drive Houston, Texas (713) MARCH 2019 ISSUE THICK-STEMMED BEGONIAS The March 3, 2019 meeting of the Astro Branch of the American Begonia Society will held at the West Gray Multi-Service Center in Activity Room 1. Our Hostesses for this meeting will be Midge Gorman, Eddie Litchfield and Gail Warren. The doors will open at 12:30 P.M. for us to set up our meeting room. If you can help us with set up it would be greatly appreciated. Between 1 P.M. and 2 P.M. members can enjoy refreshments and socialize with members and friends we only see at meetings. President Janet Carpenter will preside over this meeting. Please remember to wear your name tag. If you are unable to locate your name tag please contact Tom as soon as possible before the day of the meeting so he can have a replacement for you at the meeting. Our Program for this meeting will be more information on the Seed Fund. We need members to be testers (proofer), so consider volunteering to be one. We will also talk about Thick-stemmed Begonias. We realize that they may not look their best right now, but bring it/them anyway. Unsure if you have a thick-stemmed begonia bring it along also and let us check it out for you. Some of the more common thick-stemmed begonias are: B. vitifolia, B. Rudy, dichotoma, B. multinervia and B. valida. We are looking forward to seeing you at this meeting. Don t forget to bring your Thickstemmed begonia if you have one. The Refreshment Hostesses will have lots of tasty treats and cool drinks for you to enjoy. Here is what they predict our weather will be like for the month of March. Our temperatures will be near normal and our precipitation will be near normal. Our temperatures should average from 47 degrees in the North to 58 degrees in the South. Our coolest March temperatures will be March 1 st & 2 nd, 5 th thru 8 th, 18 th thru 21 st, 24 th & 25 th and 30 th & 31 st.
