3 High Resolution Model - Key Findings SmartMet system downloaded GFS data as its input. WRF installed without download any other data anymore. Bandwith size is a big issue in Tonga. Eficiency is the major priority to all tools or system for daily weather forecast. Since we manage mostly all hazard related ( Weather; aviation-observation-marine-flood, Climate, Eartquake, Tsunami) Since very long time Global Model Data used for forecast references, but the thundestorm event mostly undetected. WRF-TMS filled the gap on operational. Mesoscale model also prepared for aviation meteorology services. Weather Research Forecast Model WRF Introduction Mesoscale Numerical Weather Prediction WRF is a state of the art atmospheric modeling system designed for both meteorological research and numerical weather prediction. It offers a host of options for atmospheric processes and can run on a variety of computing platforms. 3

6 Common Alert Protocol (CAP) CAP is an international standard format for emergency alerting and public warning. It is designed for "all hazards", related to weather events, earthquakes, tsunami, volcanoes, public health, power outages, and many other emergencies Connected to Common Alert Protocol Hub Actived on 25 October

11 GAPs Previous Implementation Further the staffs capacity for research on WRF parameterization that suitable for Tonga Need more training or scholarship for further study on WRF Current Issue Need to build capacity on Tsunami operation such as more analytical Need a separate computer that can run SEISCOMP 3 and connect to other countries seismic stations (USGS, GFZ, etc )through internet and process earthquake event to compare with other organization analysis Provide the office the data for future analysis and mitigation Train Staffs how to simple operate analysis of earthquake events 11
