2 Crisis Communication Plan When a determination has been made an emergency notification should be issued, the San Jacinto College Marketing Department will inform the campus community by taking one or more of the appropriate steps to ensure timely notification: Invoke ALERT ME text system sending out texts and calls to all who have registered to receive this service Issue campus-wide of emergency notification All decisions concerning the discontinuation of college functions, cancellation of classes or cessation of operations, rest with the Chancellor or their designee.

Should it be deemed necessary to warn the College community of an impending threat or emergency situation, the College Emergency Notification Systems will be activated. The College Emergency Notification Systems consist of the following: Text Messaging Voice Messaging Television and Radio Media Building Marshals Department Phone Listing Status reports will be posted continuously on the following College Emergency Hotline: College Website

5 SJC ALERTME will be activated when the College determines a serious threat exists and the College community must take immediate action to remain safe and secure. The system will also be used to announce an unscheduled College and / or campus closing, or cancellation of classes due to severe weather. NOTE: SJC ALERT ME will call each phone number that you provide in SOS regardless of whether or not the call is answered. Text messages will only be sent once. There is no cost to sign up for this notification service. However, when the system sends a voice or text message to your personal phone, you are responsible for any charges from your phone service provider associated with receiving voice or text messages.

11 Back-up/Pack-up Upon notification that a campus evacuation or closure has been declared, employees should immediately begin the following: Begin back-up of all office and/or lab computers within designated areas Unplug computer systems and peripheral equipment such as printers, scanners etc. from electrical wall outlets. Power off uninterruptible power supply (ups); depending on mode, turn off switch or press and hold down power button; unplug from wall. Unplug phones from wall network plug; note which cable goes in which wall socket (write on cable for convenient reminder). Elevate all first floor systems off the floor or place on desk top. 12 CLEAN OUT ALL GOODS FROM REFRIGERATORS. Lock cabinets or drawers containing sensitive/important information. Once release approval is given by the Campus President, ensure that your area of responsibility is secure and proceed to leave the campus safely. IT and Ed Tech will follow departmental disaster response plans under which they will shut down the computer lab systems using previously designated personnel. 13 Make sure you have enough supplies to last 5-10 days per person BEWARE OF FRAUD If you have damage to your home or business, do not be a victim of fraud. Check into contractors and never pay upfront. When using a generator, keep it outdoors and away from open doors or windows. Carbon monoxide deaths are 100% preventable. Stay alert for possible Alert Me notices from the college regarding potential closures and reopening.
