2 Outline The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) plans to start the operation of next generation Himawari 8 and 9 satellites in 2015 and 2017, respectively, as a replacement for current MTSAT 2 (Himawari 7). Himawari 8/9 will not carry equipment for direct dissemination of imagery. instead, all imagery will be distributed via an Internet cloud service. JMA also plans to start the HimawariCast service, by which primary sets of imagery via a communication satellite using DVB S2. 2

Each NMHS will be able to select the necessary files for its operation. (HSD will be separately created for each band, and divided into 10 segments.) Notes Basically one download per one nation. Registration for account is required. 25 Mbps of the Internet access speed is required to download all HSD. 8

(Please see the next slide.) Notes Receiving and processing system is required. 9

11 For general public use, JMA is providing the current satellite imagery on JMA s website. JMA s websites For meteorological services, JMA is making the various types of cut out imagery available on JMA s website. JMA will continue this service even after Himawari 8 succeeds to JMA s operational 11 satellite.
