IS YOUR BUSINESS PREPARED FOR A POWER OUTAGE?
Keeping your power on is our business Whether your business is large, small or somewhere in between, we understand that a power outage presents special challenges for you. Our power lines and equipment provide safe, reliable electrical service under normal conditions, but severe storms, high winds, heavy icing conditions, tree damage, high demand for power during extreme hot weather, and accidents can damage our equipment and leave you without power. DTE Energy s goal is to provide the most reliable and affordable electric service possible to our customers. We demonstrate this commitment by working year-round to maintain, repair and improve our electrical system. This work includes: Trimming trees to avoid interference with power lines and other electrical equipment. Inspecting power lines, utility poles and other electrical equipment, such as transformers, fuses and regulators, and repairing or replacing equipment as needed. Adding electrical circuits and substations in rapidly growing communities. Monitoring outages to identify areas experiencing frequent outages.
Once this work has been completed, we continue to monitor outages to develop additional corrective measures as needed. When an outage occurs, rest assured that DTE Energy is committed to restoring your power and quickly getting you back in business. This guide will help you prepare for a power outage should one occur. Visit dteenergy.com/outagebiz for additional information to help you manage your business during a power outage. What to do when severe WEATher strikes Report your power outage or get a restoration estimate. If your power goes out, report your outage as soon as possible. Don t assume we know your power is out. Reporting or getting a restoration estimate on your outage is simple. Visit our Outage Center at dteenergy.com/outagebiz to see the available options: 1. Use your webenabled device to report a power problem, check for estimates or download our Outage App. 2. Use our online outage reporting system. 3. Call and use our automated system.
Create an Emergency Plan It is very important to create an emergency plan to keep employees, vendors and customers in the know during and after a storm has struck. To help you prepare visit our Outage Center at dteenergy.com/outagebiz Stay ahead of the storm by signing up online to receive advance notification of severe weather alerts. Check your local news media for regular updates on our storm restoration efforts. You can also check out the DTE Energy Outage Map to view the interactive map of current power outages. This map is updated every 15 minutes. Outage areas are shown in red and yellow on the map
Here are some suggestions to help you prepare: Assemble an emergency kit that includes flashlights, a battery powered radio, extra batteries, emergency contact phone numbers, a corded phone and a first aid kit. Create a list of people you do business with, as well as a list of phone numbers, cell numbers and addresses of your employees. Decide who will be responsible for initiating and maintaining contact with us during a power outage. Determine how you will prevent data loss or damage to sensitive electronic equipment. Consider installing an emergency lighting system along with battery backups for your lighting and security systems. Primary service customers who maintain their own onsite transformers should speak with DTE Energy for additional instructions on dealing with power outages. For a more comprehensive list visit dteenergy.com/outagebiz
How Your Power is Restored Our restoration priorities In a storm emergency, our first priority is to protect the general health and safety of the communities we serve. That s why we first restore power to hospitals, nursing care facilities, police and fire stations, radio and television stations, and sanitary pumping facilities. We then focus on restoring power to the remaining businesses and households, starting with electrical circuits where the largest numbers of customers are without power. Watch for signs of low voltage If your power has been restored but you are still experiencing a low voltage problem, report it as soon as possible by visiting dteenergy.com/outagebiz or by calling and use our automated system.
We care about your safety When severe weather strikes power lines can come down. Remember to treat all downed wires as live and dangerous. If you see a downed power line, it s important to stay at least 20 feet away from downed power lines and anything they may be touching, including puddles of water and fences. Be especially cautious near metal fences. Electric current will be strongest where a wire is touching, but even a connecting metal fence some distance away can be energized and dangerous. Stay away and call us immediately. Before removing tree debris, check the debris and surrounding ground for downed wires, as they might still be energized. Don t venture out in the dark because you might not see a downed power line that could be energized. Before using a generator, find out how much equipment and lighting can be operated safely by comparing their total wattage to the generator s capacity. Always follow the generator manufacturer s operating instructions to avoid injuring someone or damaging your generator and equipment. To learn more about generator safety visit dteenergy.com/outagebiz /5-13/Allied/87M
Our commitment to you We constantly monitor weather conditions and begin implementing our restoration plan before severe weather strikes. By the time a storm reaches our area, our emergency team is already hard at work. When outages do occur, rest assured that we re committed to restoring your power and getting you back in business as quickly as possible. Power out? Do not assume we know you are without power. Use your web-enabled device to report a power problem. Go to our DTE Energy Outage Center to download our Outage App. You can also report your outage online at dteenergy.com/outagebiz or call and use the automated system.
Emergency STORm Check List Tear off and keep this check list to help you manage your business during a power outage. DOWNLOAD OUR OUTAGE APP IN CASE OF EMERGENCY CALL EMERGENCY KIT LOCATION NEAREST FIRE DEPT OR POLICE STATION NEAREST SHELTER LOCATION DRY ICE LOCATION IMPORTANT PHONE NUMBERS Use your web-enabled device to REPORT a power problem Go to dteenergy.com/outagebiz to report or get a restoration estimate of your outage.
