1 CropCast Europe Weekly Report Kenny Miller Monday, June 05, 2017 Europe Hot Spots Abundant showers should ease dryness across northern and central UK as well as across western Norway and Sweden. Improvements are also likely in Germany, western Poland, Czech Republic, and eastern Hungary. More rains are needed in Spain, northern France, Italy, and western Romania, however. FORECAST: Abundant showers are expected in northern and central areas this week, with relatively lighter showers favoring southern locales. CROP IMPACT: Expected widespread showers in northern and central areas should greatly improve moisture for crop growth this week. Showers in southern areas will maintain adequate soil moisture. Scandinavia PAST WEEK: Showers were fairly widespread across the region this past week. FORECAST: Widespread showers should favor Norway and southern Sweden this week. CROP IMPACT: Continued showers in Norway this week will maintain sufficient soil moisture while showers in southern Sweden continue to improve moisture for crop conditions. France PAST WEEK: Widespread showers favored central and southwestern areas. Lighter showers favored northern areas. FORECAST: Scattered showers will be limited to the northern tier of the region this week. CROP IMPACT: Recent showers in central areas have replenished soil moisture, but dryness can still be found in northern areas. Only minor improvements are expected there this week. Germany PAST WEEK: Showers were seen across much of the region last week. FORECAST: Scattered showers should continue across the region this week. CROP IMPACT: Showers should ease dryness some in northern and western areas, but additional rains will still be needed in those areas beyond this week. Spain/Portugal PAST WEEK: Showers favored northeastern areas last week. FORECAST: Conditions should be mostly dry this week. CROP IMPACT: Dry weather this week will maintain dryness and stress on corn and sunflower growth this week. Some improvements are possible in eastern areas during the 6-10 day period. Italy PAST WEEK: Conditions remained dry this past week. FORECAST: A few showers are expected in northern areas this week. CROP IMPACT: Mostly dry weather in central and southern areas will further increase dryness and stress on crop growth. Only very minor improvements are possible in northern areas.

FORECAST: Showers should primarily favor northern and western areas this week. CROP IMPACT: Showers in western areas should improve moisture for crop growth this week. Spotty dryness will linger in northeastern areas, however. Czech Republic/Slovakia PAST WEEK: Showers were noted across Slovakia last week, with scattered showers favoring Czech Republic. FORECAST: Showers should increase across Czech Republic this week, with light showers possible in Slovakia. CROP IMPACT: Expected showers in Czech Republic should improve moisture for crop growth this week. Dryness will remain fairly widespread across Slovakia as only light showers are expected. Hungary PAST WEEK: Showers were noted in western and southern areas last week. FORECAST: Showers will be limited to eastern areas this week. CROP IMPACT: Dryness has increased across the majority of the region, particularly eastern locales. Showers there this week may lead to minor improvements, however. Romania PAST WEEK: Spotty showers favored northern and central areas last week. FORECAST: Showers should increase across the central tier of the region this week. CROP IMPACT: Dryness has redeveloped over western and far eastern areas, with no major improvements expected there this week. Showers in central locales will maintain sufficient moisture. Former Yugoslavia PAST WEEK: Showers were fairly widespread last week. FORECAST: Scattered showers are expected this week. CROP IMPACT: Showers will maintain acceptable soil moisture for crop growth in most areas this week. Bulgaria PAST WEEK: Showers were widespread across the region this past week. FORECAST: Showers should continue to favor the region this week. CROP IMPACT: Showers will continue to supply the region with sufficient soil moisture for crop growth this week.
