2 MOHO AND THE NEW SURFACE Components used in the demo Moho Pro 12 The animation software used in the demo. Device The Surface computer/screen. Pen The pen used to manipulate the elements in the software. Surface Dial The gadget the user can rotate and click on-screen or off-screen. 1

3 Surface Dial Modes in Moho To access to each mode, the user must click and hold the Surface Dial to show the dial menu. Then rotate the dial to the mode wanted and click the Surface Dial again to start using it. Volume Controls the system volume by rotating the dial. Timeline Navigate the timeline by rotating the dial. When the Surface Dial is onscreen, an overlay Timeline will appear, showing the frames, seconds and keyframes created. By clicking the Surface Dial, new frames or keyframes will be created, according to the layer selected. Zoom Allows to Zoom the canvas by rotating the dial. Undo The user can rotate the dial to quickly Undo/Redo a series of actions. When clicking the Surface Dial, the software will go back to the previous status. Stroke Width The dial can be used to increase or decrease the linewidth of new strokes. Smart Bones Rotate the dial to select a Smart Bone. Click the Surface Dial to confirm the selection and rotate the dial again to animate the Smart bone. 2

4 USING THE TIMELINE MODE Step by step 1 Open Moho Pro 12. The main character, Bessie Coleman, will appear on the screen, along with the rest of Moho s interface, including items such as Timeline, Layers, Style and Tools Palette 2 With the Surface Dial offscreen, rotate the dial clockwise. The Timeline cursor will move in time. Move it until frame 24 (1 second mark) 3 With the Pen, drag the character s left forearm bone up. The entire arm will move, as shown in the image 3

5 4 5 Keyframes will be generated automatically and will save the new pose of the character. So now we have an animation that goes from frame zero (neutral position) to frame 24 Rotate the Surface Dial to the left and right, to scroll through the created animation. You will see the character is moving 6 Now rotate the dial to go to frame 36 7 And with the pen drag the Headturn Smart Bone to the right. The head will be pointing to the right side of the screen now 4

6 8 Now rotate the dial to go back to frame 30 9 Drag the Blink Smart Bone to the right. The character is blinking 10 Rotate the dial to the left and right, to see how your animation is working. You will see the character is rising the arm and then turning the head while blinking 11 Now we will use the Overlay Timeline. For a better demo, press the tilde key. This is a shortcut to hide all the secondary windows in the software 5

7 12 Now, almost the entire screen shows the artwork Put the Surface Dial over the Screen. A smaller version of the timeline will appear. 13 You will see the keyframes you already created and can continue adding more at different frames. In order to continue animating, Rotate the dial to right or left and drag other bones of the character. Every time you do so, a new keyframe will appear in the Timeline 14 This option is great for animators, because they have the entire screen to animate, without any other window distracting them 15 If you want to go back to the normal view -showing all the secondary windows-, just press the tilde key again 6

8 USING THE ROTATE CANVAS MODE Step by step 1 Open Moho Pro 12 and go to File -> New menu, in order to create a new file 2 By default, a vector layer will be selected 3 Click and hold the Surface Dial and select the Rotation Mode 4 In the Tools Palette, select the Freehand 7

9 5 Start drawing in the Canvas 6 Put the Surface Dial over the canvas and rotate the dial. THe canvas will rotate using the Surface Dial position as pivot 7 Continue drawing and rotating the canvas when needed 8
