Do aliens exist? This photo of Earth was taken by an astronaut on the moon! Would you like to stand on the moon?
What is an alien? You probably drew some kind of big eyed, blue-skinned, odd looking creature? There is no proof that aliens look like this because no one has actually found an alien yet! We can only use our imaginations to think about what they might look like. In fact, some scientists think that aliens may be more like tiny bugs rather than green men 1.
Do you know about space? _STRO S _ TT _ LITE M S S_ A R _ Pair talk Fill in the missing letters to name these space related things! T _ L _ SC _ PE Challenge: Can you spot the hidden aliens? N C _ E _
Do you know about space? SATTELITE MARS STARS ASTRONAUT Click through for answers. Do you know what these things are? TELESCOPE Did you know our sun is one of millions of stars, just like the ones you see in the sky at night? SUN ROCKET
Do you know about space? 1 You live on a planet called... but there are lots of other planets like Mars or Venus. Earth 2 There are.. planets in our solar system and they all go around the sun. eight 3 If you look up at the sky at, you can see hundreds of stars and planets. night Words to choose from: Mars Earth Aliens Day Night Far away 4 These look really small, because they are very.. far away 5 Some scientists think that there are.. living on other planets! Pair talk Fill in the missing words using the picture clues to learn more about space. aliens
Why are we talking about this? A group of scientists called SETI (Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence) are trying to find aliens. Question (2 mins) Do you think aliens would speak the same way you do? They believe aliens probably talk to each other, so they are using these giant satellites to try to hear their conversations in far away galaxies. Galaxy: Stars, planets, gas and dust. They have heard interesting things before but it s really hard to tell where the sounds are coming from and what they are as the universe is so big!
How big is the universe? There could be aliens living on a planet far, far away, but the universe is so big we can t get there to find them! You might think an astronaut could just take a rocket into space to find them, but this would take a lot of planning as we have never gone that far! Fun fact! Getting messages from other planets would take years to come back to Earth!
How big is the universe? This is the most powerful telescope ever made, the Hubble. It is like a giant camera that floats above Earth. Question Do you know what this is or what it does? Look carefully at the picture We may not be able to travel to far away planets yet, but the Hubble can take pictures of planets and stars that are really far away, so we can learn more about them. Do you want to see some pictures?
How big is the universe? This a picture the Hubble took of a tiny part of the universe. There are millions and millions of other planets.
How big is the universe? A scientist needs your help. They want you to come up with a message to send out into space. It might get picked up by aliens! What do you want to say to the aliens? How will the aliens understand your message? Group activity Think about the questions in the blue boxes and come up with a message for the aliens. Share yours with the class!
Do aliens exist? No No Lots of scientists say that we have no pictures or sounds of aliens yet. This means we don t have any proof they exist! It s hard for an alien to live without water and the right air, and we haven't found a planet like ours yet. 14
Do aliens exist? Yes Yes The universe is so large and has billions of planets. Surely at least one other of these planets is like Earth and there s probably aliens living there! Lots of people like scientists at SETI are trying really hard to find aliens. They wouldn t spend so much money and try so hard if they didn t think aliens existed. 15
