1 124 Blue Ridge Community College Catalog and Student Handbook Transfer Programs Associate in s (A10100) The Associate in s degree shall be granted for a planned program of study consisting of a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit (SHC) of college transfer courses. Within the degree program, the student will have opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and basic computer use. The program is divided into a SHC Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) and a SHC Degree Completion Component. Courses selected should be chosen carefully to match the requirements of the university or college where the student plans to transfer. Other than course sequences governed by pre-requisites, the two components may be completed in any order. Courses are approved for transfer through the Comprehensive iculation Agreement (CAA). The CAA enables North Carolina community college graduates of two-year associate in arts programs who are admitted to constituent institutions of The University of North Carolina to transfer with junior status. Community college graduates must obtain a grade of C or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in order to transfer with a junior status. Courses may also transfer through bilateral agreements between institutions. Course substitutions may invalidate the protections afforded under the Comprehensive iculation Agreement. advisor. Course should preferably be taken the first semester, but no later than the second semester. A minimum of 45 SHC of UGETC and General Education Courses must be taken.
