4 INTRODUCTION The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), in accordance with the Annotated Code of Maryland, Education Article - 05, is required to collect statistical information for all Nonpublic Schools (NPS) within the State of Maryland. The self-reported information consolidated in the following Report serves as an integral part of the enrollment statistics for the State of Maryland. This data collection may be used by various entities in their decision making processes for allocating funds to Maryland s Nonpublic Schools. While MSDE is required to collect statistical information for Nonpublic Schools, participation is voluntary. The data recorded in this Report is self-reported by Maryland s Nonpublic Schools and is not subject to a thorough verification and audit process. The following pages reflect Nonpublic Schools self-reported enrollment numbers. The data was collected using an internet-based survey tool. Beginning with the school year, the data reported in the Report has been divided into four school types to reflect the differences in divisions which govern the approval of those programs. These school types, their governing division, and grade ranges are listed below: Nonpublic School Governing Division Range Private Schools Division of Educator Effectiveness, Nonpublic Schools Approval Branch s K-1 Nursery Schools Division of Early Childhood Development, Office of Child Care s, and 4 Publicly-Funded Nonpublic Schools Division of Educator Effectiveness, Nonpublic Schools Approval Branch s,, 4 and s K-1 Church-Exempt Private Schools Division of Educator Effectiveness, Nonpublic Schools Approval Branch s,, 4 and s K-1 MSDE-DCRAA i
