1 LABORATORIUM VOOR SCH EEPSCONSTRUCTI ÈS TECHNISCHE HOGESCHOOL - DELFT RAPPORT Nr. BETREFFENDE SSL 168a ADDENDUM TO REPORT 168: Low cycle fatigue of intersections of bottom longitudinals of tankbarges. By ir. H.G. Scholte & ir. J.H. Vink.
2 SSL 168a As a result of computer handling with measured values during fracture experiments, plots of strain. (EPSILON) with respect to load (BELASTING) are available,. In these plots EPSILON values are scaled up with a factor 10 to get convenient numbers. A number of these plots is collected in this addendum to report 168. Figures 1-17 apply to-specimen A with interrupted brackets. Figures apply to specimen B with through brackets. Specimen C has brackets of the same type as specimen B. Plots of specimen C do not show new ixiformation compared with plots of specimen A and B. The effect of buckling in the longitudinal bulkhead became clear but this is not surprising. So no plots of specimen C are given. The plots in figures 1-25 can help to find out in which places the structure behaves strongly non-linear during compression and tension. It has to be remarked that non linearities in way of a gange can also be caused by non-lineair behavior in other points or partly fracturing elsewhere. The most important indication about cause and effects can be got from the loads at which the effects start. The plots of specimen A are, in this respect, very interesting as they clearly show that fracture has started in the lower part of the welds between brackets and bulkhead at a load of about 200 tf tensile. Total fracture occuned at 4O0 tf. It is clearly shown that gauges 11 and 12 had maximum elongation at 350 tf.; gauges 3H/41-1 at 375 tf tensile load; 7H/8H at 388 tf tensile load while 5H/6H show maximum elongations at the last moments.. 6
