FACTORING A factor is a number or term that divides evenly into each term or polynomial. In algebra, to factor means to express a polynomial as a product of factors, usually a monomial x polynomial. The monomial factor is the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) and the polynomial factor is the result of dividing each term in the original polynomial by the monomial factor. Recall the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) is the highest value that divides exactly into two or more values.
