72 PRESENTATION POINTERS Bring your own equipment if possible Bring backups for the talk (jump drive, CD, etc) Save files in older formats (ppt and pptx) Preview talk on the system you are going to use to check for format issues (MAC vs PC changes) Dress professionally

(in the same room if possible) Know how long the presentation is going to take and what your time limits are Take out or consolidate slides if you feel you may go over Place additional slides you might want to use to answer any questions AFTER your last slide
74 PRESENTATION POINTERS Speak slowly, clearly, and LOUDLY!!!! Ask if people can hear you Always use a microphone if it is available Make eye contact and do not read your slides with your back to the audience. Move around if possible (different sides of the room) No Umm, Like, OK, You know, Again Avoid premature pointer and laser light show
75 PRESENTATION POINTERS Show some enthusiasm and excitement for your work!!!! Be aware that no one should know the data better than you do!! If you don t know, SAY YOU DON T KNOW. NEVER EVER TRY AND FOOL THE AUDIENCE! Relax and have fun (if presenting is a horror you are in Relax and have fun (if presenting is a horror, you are in big trouble)
