LT #2: I can identify examples of basic properties of real numbers. 6.EE.1 Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole number exponents. 6.EE.2 Write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers. LT #3: I can simplify expressions using order of operations.

Unit #2 Title: Preliminary Concepts Part II Students will be able to perform basic operations with fractions, decimals, and percents. They will also be able to solve real word problems related to proportions. 5.NF.1 Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. 5.NF.2 Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole, including cases of unlike denominators. 5.NF.3 Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator. Solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to answers in the form of fractions or mixed numbers. 5.NF.4 Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction. 5.NF.5 Interpret multiplication as scaling. 5.NF.6 Solve real world problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers. 5.NF.7 Apply and extend previous understandings of division to divide unit fractions by whole numbers and whole numbers by unit fractions. 4.NF.5 Express a fraction with denominator 10 as an equivalent fraction with denominator 100, and use this technique to add two fractions with respective denominators 10 and NF.6 Use decimal notation for fractions with denominators 10 or RP.3 Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems. LT #1: I can perform basic operations with fractions and simplify the results. LT #3: I can solve real world problems (fraction, decimal and percent) related to proportional thinking. LT #2: I can convert to and from fractions, decimals and percents.

Unit # 3 Title: Preliminary Concepts Part III Students will be able to evaluate absolute value expressions, use the coordinate plane and calculate the measures of central tendency. 7.NS.1 Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtraction rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number system. 6.NS.8 Solve real-world and mathematical problems by graphing points in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. Include use of coordinates and absolute value to find distances between points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate. LT #1: I can evaluate expressions containing absolute value. LT #3: I can calculate the measures of central tendency. LT #2: I can plot and name points, and identify location by quadrant. Unit # 4 Title: Exponents Students will be able to simplify expressions using the rules of exponents. Solve problems with scientific notation. N.RN.1 Explain how the definition of the meaning of rational exponents follows from extending the properties of integer exponents to those values, allowing for a notation for radicals in terms of rational exponents. 8.EE.3 Use numbers expressed in the form of a single digit times an integer power of 10 to estimate very large or very small quantities, and to express how many times as much one is than the other. 8.EE.4 Perform operations with numbers expressed in scientific notation, including problems where both decimal and scientific notation are used. LT #1: I can simplify expressions using the rules of exponents. LT #2: I can solve problems involving scientific notation.

Unit # 5 Title: Radicals Students will be able to complete various operations with radicals and understand complex numbers. N.RN.1 Explain how the definition of the meaning of rational exponents follows from extending the properties of integer exponents to those values, allowing for a notation for radicals in terms of rational exponents. N.RN.2 Rewrite expressions involving radicals and rational exponents using the properties of exponents. N.CN.1- Know there is a complex number I such that I squared equals - 1, and every complex number has the form a+bi with a and b real. LT#1: I can simplify, multiply, add, and subtract radical expressions. LT#2: I can understand and simplify complex numbers. Unit # 6 Title: Simplifying Polynomials Students will understand how to combine like terms, apply the distributive property and multiply binomial pairs. A.APR.1 Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers, namely, they are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, and multiplication; add, subtract, and multiply polynomials. LT #1: I can combine like terms. LT #2: I can apply the distributive property and then simplify the expression. LT #3: I can multiply binomial pairs.

Unit # 7 Title: Factoring Students will be able to factor polynomials. A.SSE.1 Interpret expressions that represent a quantity in terms of its context. A.SSE.2 Use the structure of an expression to identify ways to rewrite it. A.SSE.3 Choose and produce an equivalent form of an expression to reveal and explain properties of the quantity represented by the expression. LT #1: I can factor special case polynomials including common factors. LT #2: I can factor polynomials using the difference of squares. LT #3: I can factor trinomials. Unit # 8 Title: Algebraic Fractions Students will be able to perform operations with rational expressions. A.APR.1 Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers, namely, they are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, and multiplication; add, subtract, and multiply polynomials. A.APR.7 Understand that rational expressions form a system analogous to the rational numbers, closed under addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division by a nonzero rational expression; add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational expressions. LT #1: I can simplify rational expressions involving monomials and polynomials. LT #2: I can multiply and divide rational expressions involving monomials and polynomials. LT #3: I can add and subtract rational expressions. LT #4: I can divide polynomials using long division. LT #5: I can simplify radical expressions by multiplication, addition, and subtraction.

Unit # 9 Title: Solving One Variable Linear Equations and Inequalities Students will be able to solve linear equations and inequalities. 6.EE.5 Understand solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question: which values from a specified set, if any, make the equation or inequality true? Use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an equation or inequality true. 6.EE.6 Use variables to represent numbers and write expressions when solving real-world or mathematical problem; understand that a variable can represent an unknown number, or depending on the purpose at hand, any number in a specified set. 6.EE. 7 Solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations of the form x + p = q LT #1: I can solve single variable, single step, and multi-step equations. LT #2: I can solve single variable, single step, and multi-step inequalities.
