Critical Reading Answer Key 1. D 3. D 4. A 5. A 6. B 7. E 8. C 9. D 10. C 11. D
Sentence Completion Answer Key 1. D Key- Find the key word. You must train yourself to pick out key words and phrases that clue you in to the tonality of the words needed. In this sentence, Americans is the key word. Americans in the Revolutionary War would believe that their militias were good. Look for a positive word in the first blank. They would also believe that they were fighting against something bad. Look for a negative word in the second blank. Choice D. Key- Thought reversers. Thought-reversers (but, yet, however, etc.) are huge keys in the sentence completions and reading passages. ALWAYS circle a thought reverser-- it indicates a contrast is being set up. In this sentence, the but indicates that you need opposites. Choice B. 3. D Key- Find the key word. You must train yourself to pick out key words and phrases that clue you in to the tonality of the words needed. In this sentence, dare indicates that you need a negative word in the second blank. This leaves only choices A and D Choice D is the correct answer. 4. C Key- Thought reversers. Thought-reversers (but, yet, however, etc.) are huge keys in the sentence completions and reading passages. ALWAYS circle a thought reverser-- it indicates a contrast is being set up. In this sentence, the actually implies that a switch is occurring within the sentence. Look for a word opposite to change Choice C. Vocabulary comes into play with this question. 5. A Key- Vocabulary. This is a vocabulary question. You must be studying your vocabulary make index cards, study in the bathroom, and play WilsonDailyPrep s vocabulary game online. The correct answer is salvo, meaning simultaneous releases. 6. A Key-Punctuation. Pay attention to punctuation in the sentence completions! Commas indicate a continuation of thought, and often direct you towards the answer. In this sentence, the definition of the word is found after the comma: unlike the positive Look for a negative word Choice A. 7. B Key-Punctuation. Pay attention to punctuation in the sentence completions! Commas indicate a continuation of thought, and often direct you towards the answer. In this sentence, nearly entirely forgotten relates to the word belonging in the second blank. This leaves only choices B and D. Neglected in choice D does not work. Choice B is correct.
Grammar Answer Key 1. A 3. B 4. B 5. C 6. A 7. E 8. D 9. A
Math Answer Key 1. B Pick a number for q, such as q = 10. Then 6 shirts at full price will cost you $60 and 3 more at half price will cost you $15, for a total of $75. Plug in q = 10 to the answer choices until you get $75. m + 4m If the average of m and 4m is 10, then = 10. Solve for m: m + 4 m = 20, so 5m = 20, so 2 m = B The area of a circle is 2 π r, so the area of the smaller circle is π 1) 2 = π (, and the area of the larger circle is π (2) 2 = 4π. Therefore, the ratio between them is 1:4. Make sure you put the ratio in the order that the question asks! 4. C Using the triangle rule, you can figure out that each side of the triangle is 5. (You can also use the Pythagorean Theorem: x² + x² = ( 5 2 )²). The area of a triangle is A = 1 1 bh = (5)(5) = D Pick numbers for q and p, such as p = 100 miles and q = 50 mph. Then the trip will take 2 hours. Plug in p = 100 and q = 50 until you get D Always do the function on the inside first: g(2) = 5(2) 4 = 6. Now find f(6) = 2(6) + 3 = C Try each answer choice, starting with C. Suppose b = 5. Then the sequence goes 5, 20, 80, 320, 1280 The sum of those numbers is Perfect! 8. C If 2 3 = m 6, then m. 3 6 = m + 3. Cross-multiplying gives you 3(m + 3) = 6(2 + 3). Solve for
9. B Start by writing down the median, 30. Write the next larger integer, 31, to the right and the next smaller integer, 29, to the left and continue until you have the 7 integers. The smallest is 27.</p> 10. D This is a very typical SAT question! The question doesn t ask you to find x or y separately, so don t waste your time! The sum of the angles of a triangle = 180 degrees, so the missing angle in the triangle on the right is 80 degrees. That makes the missing angle in the triangle on the left also 80 degrees. Then x + y must be C To find g(x), you must find f(x) FIRST and then add 3 to that value. Since f(1) = 5(1)² + 3(1) 2 = 6, then g(1) = f(1) + 3 = = D In order to find circumference, you must know the radius. Draw a picture! If the center is at the origin (0, 0) and it passes through (-1,-1), the radius can be found using the Pythagorean Theorem. (-1)² + (-1)² = 2, so the radius is 2. The circumference of a circle is 2π r = 2π 2, which is the same as answer choice D, rearranged. 13. C Pick two positive consecutive integers, such as x = 6 and y = 5 Then (6)² (5)² = 11. Plug in y = 5 for the answer choices until you get B This is a difficult question. First of all, f ( t 2 ) means 5(t²) + 1. Then, plug in each answer choice for t. Choice B works because ( 5(2 2 ) + 1) = ( 5(4) + 1) = ( 21) = D This is a difficult question. Jamie has already won.2 x 20 = 4 matches. Now plug in the answer choices, starting with C. If she wins 32 more matches, then her winning percentage is = = , which is not enough. Try answer choice D. If she wins 44 more matches, her winning percentage is = = That works!
