ON GENERAL MULTILINEAR SQUARE FUNCTION WITH NON-SMOOTH KERNELS arxi:56.89 [math.ca] 3 Jun 5 MAHDI HORMOZI, ZENGYAN SI, AND QINGYING XUE Abstract. In this paper, we obtain some boundedness of multilinear square functions T with non-smooth kernels, which extend some known results significantly. The corresponding multilinear maximal square function T was also introduced and weighted strong and weak type estimates for T were gien.. Introduction It is well-known that the multilinear Calderón-Zygmund operators were introduced and firststudiedby CoifmanandMeyer [3, 4, 5], andlater by Grafakos andtorres [,3]. The study of this subject was recently enjoyed a resurgence of renewed interest and actiity. In particular, the study of multilinear singular integral operators with non-standard kernels hae recently receied pretty much attention. Before we state some known results, we begin by giing some definitions and notations. For any (, ), a locally integrable function K (x,y,...,y m ) defined away from the diagonal x = y = = y m in (R n ) m+ satisfies the integral condition of C Z type, if there are some positie constants γ,a, and B >, such that (.) (.) ( ( ) K (x,y,,y m ) d A ( m x y j ) mn, ) K (z,y,,y m ) K (x,y,,y m ) d A z x γ ( m x y j ) mn+γ, wheneer z x B maxm x y j ; and (.3) ( ) K (x,y,...,y i,...,y m ) K (x,y,...,y i,...,y m ) d A y j y j γ ( m x y j ) mn+γ wheneer y y B maxm x y j. 2 M. HORMOZI, ZENGYAN SI, AND QINGYING XUE Xue and Yan [] introduced a multilinear square function T which is defined by T( f)(x) (.4) = K (x,y,...,y m ) f j (y j )dy,...,dy m d, (R n ) m for any f = (f,...,f m ) S(R n ) S(R n ) and all x / m suppf j. We assume that for some q,,q m < and < q <, T can be extended to a bounded multilinear operator from L q L qm to L q, where q = q + + q m. Xue and Yan [] obtain the following results. Theorem A ([]) Let T be a multilinear square function with the kernel satisfying the integral condition of C Z type. Then T can be extended to a bounded operator from L (R n )... L (R n ) to L /m, (R n ). Theorem B ([]) Let T be a multilinear square function with the kernel satisfying the integral condition of C Z type. Let p = p p m with p,...,p m < and assume that ω satisfies A p condition, then the following results hold: () If there is no p i =, then T( f) L p (ν w ) C m f i L p i(wi ) () If there is a p i =, then T( f) L p, (ν w ) C m f i L p i(wi ) Recently, many mathematicians are concerned to remoe or replace the smoothness condition on the kernel [, 9, 9, 5, 8, 8, 7, ]. It is natural to ask under the nonsmooth condition, does Theorem A and Theorem B still hold or not? In this paper we can gie a positie answer: we can extend Theorem A and Theorem B to non-smooth case. Moreoer, we introduce the multilinear maximal square function T and weighted strong and weak type estimates for T are also gien. To begin with, we first recall a class of integral operators {A t } t>, that plays the role of an approximation to the identity modifying the original definition in [?] to extend it to a more general scenario. We assume that the operators A t are associated with kernels a t (x,y) in the sense that A t f(x) = a t (x,y)f(y)dy R n for eery function f L p (R n ), p, and the kernels a t (x,y) satisfy the following size conditions ( ) x y (.5) a t (x,y) h t (x,y) := t n/s h, where s is a positie fixed constant and h is a positie, bounded, decreasing function satisfying (.6) lim r r n+η h(r s ) = for some η >. These conditions imply that for some C > and all < η η, the kernels a t (x,y) satisfy t /s a t (x,y) Ct n/s (+t /s x y ) n η.
ON GENERAL MULTILINEAR SQUARE FUNCTION WITH NON-SMOOTH KERNELS 3 Assumption(H) Assume that for each i =,,m there exist operators {A (i) t } t> with kernels a i t (x,y) that satisfy condition (.5) and (.6) with constants s and η and that for eery j =,,,,m, there exist kernels K (i) t, such that (.7) < T(f,,A (i) t f i,,f m ),g > = t, (x,y d,,y m )f (y ) f m (y m )d y R n (R n ) m K (i) / g(x)dx, for all f,,f m,g in S with m k= suppf k suppg = φ. There exists a function φ C(R) with suppφ [,] and a constant ε > so that for eery j =,,,m and eery i =,,,m, we hae (.8) ( ) K (x,y,,y m ) K (i) t, (x,y,,y m ) d / A m ( x y + + x y m ) mn φ( y i y k At ε/s t /s )+ ( x y + + x y m ) mn+ε k=,k i wheneer t /s x y i /. Assumption (H) Assume that there exist operators {A t } t> with kernels a t (x,y) that satisfy condition (.5) and (.6) with constants s and η, and there exist kernels K () t, (x,y,,y m ) such that for all x,y,,y m R n and t > the representation is alid (.9) K () t, (x,y,,y m ) = K (z,y,,y m )a t (x,z)dz. R n Assume also that there exist a function φ C(R) and φ [,] and a constant ε > such that ( ) (.) 4 4 M. HORMOZI, ZENGYAN SI, AND QINGYING XUE Assumption (H3) Assume that there exist operators {A t } t> with kernels a t (x,y) that satisfy condition (.5) and (.6) with constants s and η and there exist kernels K () t, such that (.9) holds. Also assume that there exist positie constant A and ε such that, (.) ( ) K () t, (x,y,,y m ) K () t, (x,y,,y m ) d / At ε/s ( m k= x y k ) mn+ε, wheneer t /s min jm x y j and x x t /s. Kernels K that satisfying (.),(.7) and (.8) with parameters m,a,s,η,ε are called generalized square function kernels, and their collection is denoted by m GSF K(A, s, η, ε). We say that T is of class m GSFO(A,s,η,ε) if T has an associated kernel K in m GSFK(A,s,η,ε).. Endpoint estimate for T In this section we proe the endpoint estimate for multilinear generalized square function. Theorem.. Let T be a multilinear operator in m GSFO(A,s,η,ε). Then T can be extended to a bounded operator from L (R n )... L (R n ) into L /m, (R n ) with bound T L... L L /m, C n,m(a+ T L p L pm L p, ). Proof of Theorem.. For simplicity, we write T = T L p L pm L p,. Let f = (f,...,f m ). By homogeneity, we may assume that each f i L (R n ) and f i L (R n ) =. It suffices to proe that for any >, (.) {x R n : T( f )(x) > m } C(A+ T ) /m /m. For j =,,...,m, we consider the Calderón Zygmund decomposition of each function f j at leel (α) /m, where α is a positie constant to be determined later. Then, each f j has the decomposition with I j being some index set, such that f j = g j +b j = g j + k I j b j,k (i) g j (x) C(α) /m for all x R n ; (ii) there exists a sequence of mutually disjoint cubes {Q j,k } k Ij such that suppb j,k Q j,k, R n b j,k (x)dx = and b j,k L (R n ) C(α) /m Q j,k ; (iii) k I j Q j,k C(α) /m. It follows from (ii) and (iii) that and hence (.) Further, (.3) b j L (R n ) C g j L (R n ) f j L (R n ) + b j L (R n ) +C. g j L p j(r n ) (+C) /p j [C(α) /m ] (p j )/p j = C(α) /(mp j ).
ON GENERAL MULTILINEAR SQUARE FUNCTION WITH NON-SMOOTH KERNELS 5 Let E () := {x R n : T(g,g,...,g m )(x) > }; E () := {x R n : T(b,g,...,g m )(x) > }; E (3) := {x R n : T(g,b,g 3,...,g m )(x) > }; E (m ). := {x R n : T(b,b,...,b m )(x) > }. That is, for i m, E (i) = {x Rn : T(h,h,...,h m )(x) > }, h j {g j, b j } and all the sets E (s) are distinct. Thus, {x R n : T( f )(x) > m } and we only need to proe that for i m and >, (.4) m E (i) C(A+ T )/m /m. E (i), First, we estimate E (). By the Lp (R n ) L pm (R n ) L p, (R n ) boundedness of T and Chebyche s inequality, one gets that ( T m E () g ) p j L p j (R n ) (.5) m C T (α) m p p j = C T p α p m m. Now we estimate E (i) for i m. Suppose that for some l m we hae l bad functions and m l good functions appearing in T(h,...,h m ), where h j {g j,b j }. It suffices to proe that (.6) E (i) C m [ ] T p α p m +α m +Aα m. Indeed, once we hae (.6), then combining with (.5) and selecting α = ( T +A), we get (.4). Now we proe (.6). For each cube Q j,k obtained in the Calderón-Zygmund decomposition in (ii), we denote by Q j,k the cube with the same center as Q j,k but 5 n times the side length of that of Q j,k. By (iii), we hae m m Q j,k Cm(5 n) n (α) /m. k I j k I j Q j,k
6 M. HORMOZI, ZENGYAN SI, AND QINGYING XUE Thus, to get (.6), it suffices to proe that m x / Q j,k : T(h (.7),...,h m )(x) > k I j [ ] C m T p α p m +α m +Aα m, h j {g j,b j }. Without loss of generality, we may assume that { b j, j =,...,l; h j = g j, j = l+,...,m. Fix x / m k I j Q j,k. Then, by the Calderón-Zygmund decomposition, we write (.8) T(b,...,b l,g l+,...,g m )(x) = T(b,k,...,b l,kl, g l+,...,g m )(x) k,k,...,k l l = T(b,k,...,b l,kl, g l+,...,g m )(x) k j Θ j =: k,...,k j k j+,...,k l l T (j) (b,...,b l,g l+,...,g m )(x), where, for j l, we recall that suppb j,kj Q j,kj and define Θ j := {k j I j :l(q i,ki ) > l(q j,kj ) for i j, l(q j,kj ) l(q i,ki ) for j + i l}. Notice that Θ j is gien by collecting all the indices k j I j such that the side length of Q j,kj is the first smallest among those of {Q,k,...,Q l,kl }. Therefore, the proof of (.7) can be reduced to the following estimate: l x / (.9) C m ], j l. Q i,k : T(j) (b,...,b l,g l+,...,g m )(x) > k I i [ T p α p m +α m +Aα m Without loss of generality, we may consider only the case j = in (.9). Choose t,k = ( nl(q,k )) s, where s is the constant appearing in (.5). Write T () (b,...,b l,g l+,...,g m )(x) = k,...,k l = k,...,k l T(b,k,b,k,...,b l,kl, g l+,...,g m )(x) k Θ T(b,k A () t,k b,k,b,k,...,b l,kl, g l+,...,g m )(x) k Θ

Consider first the operator T (,). We get T (,) (b,...,b l,g l+,...,g m )(x) T(b,k A () t,k b,k,b,k,...,b l,kl, g l+,...,g m )(x) k,...,k l k Θ = ( [K (x,y,...,y m ) K () t,k, (x,y,...,y m )] (R n ) m k,...,k l k Θ l b j,kj (y j ) A k,...,k l k Θ l b j,kj (y j ) A +A k,...,k l m k Θ u=k,...,k l k Θ =: Y (x)+y (x), i=l+ (R n ) m (R n ) m g i (y i ) d y d ) ( K (x,y,...,y m ) K () t,k, (x,y,...,y m ) d i=l+ g i (y i ) d y ( ) ε (t,k ) /s m x y i ( m x y i ) mn ( ) φ y y u (t,k ) /s (R n ) m l b j,kj (y j ) ( m x y i ) mn k j I j l b j,kj (y j ) i=l+ g i (y i ) d y i=l+ g i (y i ) d y where we hae used Assumption (H) since x y t /s,k. For Y (x), by the definitions of t,k and Θ, we see that [ ] ε/m l(qj,kj ) l x y j b (y j,kj j) Y (x) A (R n ) m x y j n i=l+ [ l(q,k ) l(q,k )+ x y i ] ε/m gi (y i ) (l(q,k )+ x y i ) n d y. Therefore we obtain that for l+ i m, [ l(q,k ) ε/m l(q,k )+ x y i ] gi (y i ) (l(q,k )+ x y i ) n dy i CM(g i )(x) C(α) /m. R n )
8 M. HORMOZI, ZENGYAN SI, AND QINGYING XUE Recall that we hae assumed that x / m k I i Q i,k. Consequently, x / Q j,k j for each j l. For such an x and all y Q j,kj, it is easy to see that 4 5 x c j,k j x y 4 3 x c j,k j, where c j,kj denotes the center of the cube Q j,kj. Furthermore, we hae R n k j I j [ l(qj,kj ) x y j ] ε/m b (y j,kj j) x y j n dy j Define the function C k j I j [ l(qj,kj ) 4 5 x c j,k j C(α) /m k j I j (.) [ ] ε/m l(qj,kj ) Q j,kj 4 5 x c j,k j x c j,kj n. l M j,/m (x). Next, we shall use the following estimate in [8, p. 4]: (.) x/ m M j,/m (x)dx C Q j,kj. k I Q i i,k k j I j By this and Hölder s inequality, we get l x / Q i,k : Y (.3) (x) > /4 k I i l x / l Q i,k : Aα M j,/m (x) > C k I i /l l C Aα M j,/m (x) dx CAα x/ m k I Q i i,k l x/ m k I Q i i,k M j,/m (x)dx /l
ON GENERAL MULTILINEAR SQUARE FUNCTION WITH NON-SMOOTH KERNELS 9 l C(Aα) /l Q j,kj k j I j C(α) /m, where the last step is by (iii) and the fact Aα <. Now we consider Y (x). Indeed, the estimate of Y is exactly the term T () in [7, p. ], which proides us the following estimate: m l Y (x) CA(α) l/m J j, n M(g i )(x) k=l+ j= m (x) /l i k, l+im ( M(g k )(x)+(α) /m J, n m (x) ), where for any ǫ > and j m the function J j,ǫ (x) is gien by J j,ǫ (x) = k j I j [l(q j,kj )]n+ǫ [l(q j,kj )+ x c j,kj ] n+ǫ and M is usual the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator. It is known from [7, (.6)] that for any p (n/(n+ǫ), ), (.4) J j,ǫ L p (R n ) C /p Q j,kj. k j I j By (iii), we further hae that (.5) J j,ǫ L (R n ) C Q j,kj k j I j / C(α) /(m). By the L -boundedness of M, property (i) and (.), we hae that for all i m, (.6) M(g i ) L (R n ) C g i L (R n ) C(α) /(m) g i / L (R n ) C(α)/(m). From (.5) and (.6), it follows that l x / Q i,k : Y (x) > /4 k I i ( ) Y (x) m dx R n /4 ( ) A(α) l/m m m l C k=l+ R n J j, n (x) m j= m
M. HORMOZI, ZENGYAN SI, AND QINGYING XUE i k, l+im m ( ) M(g i )(x) M(g k )(x)+(α) /m J, n (x) m m In the last formula, there are m factors inside the integrand. Since l, so for the special case m =, we hae only the last factor (M(g k )(x) +(α) /m J, n (x)) inside m the integrand. We shall use the inequality: m ( ) (.7) [F (x) F m (x)] m dx [F j (x)] m dx. R n R n This inequality holds with = when m =, and it follows from Hölder s inequality when m 3. Therefore, by (.7), we hae l x / Q i,k : Y (.8) (x) > /4 k I i ( ) A(α) l/m m m l C J j, n m m L (R n ) k=l+ j= m M(g i ) i k, l+im L (R n ) ( M(g k ) L (R n ) +(α) /m J, n m L (R n ) ( C A(α) l/m = C(Aα) m (α) /m, ) m ) m ( ) (α) l m (α) m l m (α) m m which is bounded by CAα(α) /m since Aα < and m. The relations (.3) and (.8) together yield that l x / Q i,k : T(,) (b,...,b l,g l+,...,g m )(x) > / k I i C(α) m [+Aα]. Thus, to obtain (.9), it remains to proe l x / Q i,k : (.9) T(,) (b,...,b l,g l+,...,g m )(x) > / k I i C(α) /m. To handle the rest of the proof we use (.4), Chebyche s inequality and the L q L qm L q boundedness of T to get the desired result. This concludes the proof of the Theorem. dx.
ON GENERAL MULTILINEAR SQUARE FUNCTION WITH NON-SMOOTH KERNELS 3. Weighted estimates for T In this section, we will study the multiple-weighted normal inequalities and weak-type estimates. Our main results in this section can be stated as follows. Theorem 3.. Let T be a multilinear operator in m GSFO(A,s,η,ε) with a kernel satisfies Assumption (H). Let p = p p m for p,...,p m < and ω A p with p., then the following hold: () If there is no p i =, then T( f) L p (ω) C m f i L p i(ω) () If there is a p i =, then T( f) L p, (ω) C m f i L p i(ω) The proof of Theorem 3. is similar to [6, Cor. 4.], which is based on the following lemmas. Lemma 3.. ([]) Let < p,δ < and ω be any Mackenhoupt A weight. Then there exists a constant C independent of f such that the inequality (3.)
