OHNO-TYPE IDENTITIES FOR MULTIPLE HARMONIC SUMS SHIN-ICHIRO SEKI AND SHUJI YAMAMOTO axiv: v [math.nt] Jun 08 Abstact. We establish Ohno-type identities fo multiple hamonic (-)sums which genealize Hoffman s identity and Badley s identity. Ou esult leads to a new poof of the Ohno-type elation fo A-finite multiple zeta values ecently poved by Hiose, Imatomi, Muahaa and Saito. As a futhe application, we give cetain sum fomulas fo A - o A 3 -finite multiple zeta values. m. Intoduction Let N be a positive intege. Eule [5] poved the following identity fo the N-th hamonic numbe: N ( ) m N N m m n. () It is known today that thee ae vaious genealizations of Eule s identity. We call a tuple of positive integes an index. Fo an index k (k,...,k ), we define its Hoffman dual k by k : (,...,+,...,+,...,+,...,). }{{}}{{}}{{} k k k Let k (k,...,k ) and k (l,...,l s ). Afte Roman [] (the case ) and Henandez [] (the case s ), Hoffman [8] poved ( ) m N. () m k m k m n l n ls s m m N m n n n s N Thee ae also -analogs of these identities. Let be a eal numbe satisfying 0 < <. Fo an intege m, we define the -intege [m] : m. When 0 m N, we define the -factoial [m]! : m a [a] ([0] : ) and the -binomial coefficient ( N : [N]! m) [m]![n m]!. Van Hamme [9] poved a -analog of Eule s identity () N ( ) m m(m+) N N n. [m] m [n] n 00 Mathematics Subject Classification. M3, B65. Key wods and phases. 2 SHIN-ICHIRO SEKI AND SHUJI YAMAMOTO Afte Dilche [4] (the case ) and Podinge [] (the case s ), Badley [3] poved a -analog of Hoffman s identity () (k )m + +(k )m ( ) m m(m+) N m m N [m ] k [m ] k m n + +n s (3). [n ] l [n s ] ls n n s N The euality () o (3) is a kind of duality fo multiple hamonic (-)sums. Since the duality elations fo (-)multiple zeta values ae genealized to Ohno s elations ([9, ]), it is natual to ask whethe (and how) we can genealize () and (3) to Ohno-type identities. This uestion was consideed by Oyama [0] and moe ecently by Hiose, Imatomi, Muahaa and Saito [7]. Moe pecisely, they teated identities of the A-finite multiple zeta values, that is, conguences modulo pime numbes. In this aticle, we pove Ohno-type identities which genealize (3) (Theoem.) and () (Coollay.). We stess that ou fomulas ae tue identities, not conguences. This allows us to give, besides a new poof of Hiose-Imatomi-Muahaa-Saito s elation fo A-finite multiple zeta values, sum fomulas fo A - o A 3 -finite multiple zeta values, which ae conguences modulo suae o cube of pimes.. Main Results.. Ohno-type identity. Fo a tuple of non-negative integes e (e,...,e ), we define its weight wt(e) and depth dep(e) to be e + +e and, espectively. Let J e, be the set of all tuples of non-negative integes e such that wt(e) e, dep(e), and set J, : e0 J e,. Fo e,e J,, e +e denotes the entywise sum. Similaly, let I k, be the set of all indices k such that wt(k) k, dep(k), and set I, : k0 I k,. By convention, I,0 { } is the set consisting only of the empty index. Fo k (k,...,k ) I, and e (e,...,e ) J,, put ( ki +e i +δ i +δ i b(k;e) : whee δ ij is Konecke s delta. Hee, we use the convention that { e (e 0), e 0 (e > 0). i Fo a positive intege N, k (k,...,k ) I, and e (e,...,e ) J,, we define the multiple hamonic -sums HN (k;) and z N (k;e;) by HN (k )m + +(k )m (k;) : ( ) m m(m+) N zn (k;e;) : m m N m m N e i [m ] k [m ] k (e +)m + +(e +)m [m ] k +e [m ] k+e. ), m,
OHNO-TYPE IDENTITIES FOR MULTIPLE HARMONIC SUMS 3 We set zn (k;) : z N (k;{0} ;) and zn ( ;) :. Hee {a} means times epetition a,...,a of a. The fist main esult is the following: }{{} Theoem.. Let N be a positive intege, e a non-negative intege and k I, an index. Set s : dep(k ). Then we have e b(k;e)hn(k +e;) zn({} e j ;) zn(k ;e ;). (4) e J e, j0 e J j,s The case e 0 gives Badley s identity HN (k;) z N (k ;). We will pove (4) by using a cetain connected sum in 3, based on the same idea used in anothe pape of the authos [7]. This poof is new even if one specializes it to Hoffman s identity. Let HN (k) : lim H N (k;) ζn (k) : lim z N (k;) m m N m m N By taking the limit in (4), we obtain the following: ( ) m m k mk m k m k ( N m ),. (5) Coollay.. Let N be a positive intege, e a non-negative intege and k I, an index. Set s : dep(k ). Then we have e b(k;e)hn (k+e) ζn ({}e j ) ζn (k +e ). (6) e J e, j0 e J j,s The case e 0 gives Hoffman s identity HN (k) ζ N (k ). Fo an application of (6), we ecall A-finite multiple zeta values. Fist we define a Q-algeba A by / A : Z/pZ Z/pZ. p: pime p: pime Fo a positive intege N and an index k (k,...,k ) I,, we define a multiple hamonic sum ζ N (k) by ζ N (k) : m k m k m < <m N (compae with ζn (k) given in (5)). We set ζ N( ) ζn ( ) by convention. Then the A-finite multiple zeta values ζ A (k) and ζa (k) ae defined by ζ A (k) : ( ζ p (k) mod p ), p ζ A (k) : ( ζp (k) mod p) A. p Since ( ) m p m (mod p) holds fo any pime p geate than m, we have ( H p (k) mod p ) p ζ A (k).
4 SHIN-ICHIRO SEKI AND SHUJI YAMAMOTO Moeove, it is known that ζa ({}e ) 0 fo e > 0, while ζa ( ). Hence we obtain the following elation among A-finite multiple zeta values as a coollay of (6). Coollay.3 (Hiose-Imatomi-Muahaa-Saito [7]). Let e be a non-negative intege and k I, an index. Set s : dep(k ). Then we have b(k;e)ζa (k+e) ζa (k +e ). e J e, e J e,s.. Sum fomulas fo finite multiple zeta values. Befoe stating ou second main esult, let us ecall the sum fomulas fo A-finite multiple zeta values. Fist, it is easily seen that ζ A (k) ζa (k) 0, (7) k I k, k I k, but this is not an analog of the sum fomula fo the multiple zeta values [6], since the admissibility condition k is ignoed in (7). A moe pecise analog (and its genealization) is due to Saito-Wakabayashi [5]. Fo integes k, and i satisfying i < k, we put I k,,i : {(k,...,k ) I k, k i } and B p k : (B p k mod p) p A, whee B n denotes the n-th Seki-Benoulli numbe. Note that B p k 0 if k is even. Theoem.4 (Saito-Wakabayashi [5]). Let k, and i be integes satisfying i < k. Then, in the ing A, we have eualities { } k k ζ A (k) ( ) i +( ) Bp k i i k, k I k,,i { } k k (k) ( )i ( ) Bp k + i i k. k I k,,i ζ A In paticula, if k is even, we see that k I k,,i ζ A (k) k I k,,i ζ A (k) 0. (8) Ou aim is to lift the identities (7) and (8) in A, which epesent systems of conguences modulo (almost all) pimes p, to conguences modulo p o p 3, by using the identity (6). Let n be a positive intege. In accodance with [3, 6, ], we define a Q-algeba A n by / A n : Z/p n Z Z/p n Z p: pime p: pime and the A n -finite multiple zeta values ζ An (k) and ζ A n (k) by ζ An (k) : (ζ p (k) mod p n ) p, ζ A n (k) : (ζ p (k) mod p n ) p A n. We use the symbol B p k again to denote the element (B p k mod p n ) p of A n, and put p : (p mod p n ) p A n. Then ou second main esult is the following:
OHNO-TYPE IDENTITIES FOR MULTIPLE HARMONIC SUMS 5 Theoem.5 ( Poposition Theoem 5. + Theoem 4.7). Let k, be positive integes satisfying k. Then, in the ing A, we have k ζ A (k) ( ) Bp k k + p, k ζ Bp k A (k) k + p. k I k, k I k, If k is odd, in the ing A 3, we have ζ A3 (k) ( ) k + k Bp k k + p, k I k, ζa 3 (k) k + k Bp k k + p. k I k, Futhemoe, let i be an intege satisfying i and we assume that k is even and geate than. Then the eualities ζ A (k) a k,,i k I k,,i Bp k k + p, k I k,,i ζ A (k) b k,,i Bp k k + p hold in A. Hee the coefficients a k,,i and b k,,i ae given by ( { } k k k k a k,,i : ( ) )+( ) i (k ) + +( ), i i i ( { } k k k k b k,,i : )+( ) i (k ) + +( ). i i i We will pove this theoem in 4 and The poof of Theoem. Definition 3. (Connected sum). Let N be a positive intege, a eal numbe satisfying 0 < < and x an indeteminate. Let > 0 and s 0 be integes. Fo k (k,...,k ) J, satisfying k,...,k and l (l,...,l s ) I,s, we define a fomal powe seies ZN (k;l;;x) in x by ZN(k;l;;x) : F (k;m;;x)c(m,n,,x)f (l;n;;x), whee F (k;m;;x) : m m n n s n s+ N [m ] [m ] m x i C(m,n,,x) : ( ) m m(m+) F (l;n;;x) : s j n j ([n j ] n j x)[nj ] l j fo m (m,...,m ) and n (n,...,n s ). (k i )m i [m i ] ([m i ] m i x) k i n h ([h] h x) [m ]![n m ]!, [m ] [m ] m x,
6 SHIN-ICHIRO SEKI AND SHUJI YAMAMOTO Remak 3.. The sum ZN (k;l;;x) consists of two pats m m N F (k;m;;x) and n n s N F (l;n;;x), connected by the facto C(m,n,,x) (and the elation m n ). We call it a connected sum with connecto C(m,n,,x). In [7], anothe type of connected sums is used to give a new poof of Ohno s elation fo the multiple zeta values and Badley s -analog of it. Theoem 3.3. Fo (k,...,k ) J, with k,...,k and (l,...,l s ) I,s, we have Z N (k,...,k +;l,...,l s ;;x) Z N (k,...,k ;,l,...,l s ;;x). (9) Moeove, if s > 0, we also have Z N(k,...,k +,0;l,...,l s ;;x) Z N(k,...,k ;+l,...,l s ;;x). (0) Poof. The euality (9) follows fom the telescoping sum m [m] m x C(m,n,,x) n ( m [m] m x C(m,a,,x) n a C(m,a,,x) [a] a x am am ) m [m] m x C(m,a,,x) appliedtom m,n n anda n inthedefinitionofz N (k,...,k ;,l,...,l s ;;x). Similaly, the euality (0) follows fom the telescoping sum m [m] n a C(a,n,,x) am m [m] n ( [a] C(a,n,,x) [a+] ) C(a+,n,,x) a [n] a+ [n] am C(m,n,,x) [n] appliedtom m,n n,a m + inthedefinitionofz N (k,...,k +,0;l,...,l s ;;x).
OHNO-TYPE IDENTITIES FOR MULTIPLE HARMONIC SUMS 7 Coollay 3.4. Let N be a positive intege and k (k,...,k ) an index. We define P N (k;;x), Q N (k;;x) and R N (;x) by P N (k;;x) : Q N (k;;x) : R N (;x) : Then we have m m N m m N i N ( h h x [h] [m ] [m ] m x i ( ) m m(m+) ). m i (k i )m i [m i ] ([m i ] m i x) k i N m ([m i ] m i x)[mi ] k i,, [m ] [m ] m x P N (k;;x) Q N (k ;;x)r N (;x). () Poof. By applying eualities in Theoem 3.3 wt(k) times, we see that Z N (k; ;;x) Z N (0;k ;;x) holds by the definition of the Hoffman dual. Fo example, Z N(,,; ) (9) Z N(,,;) (9) Z N(,,0;,) (0) Z N(,0;,) (0) Z N(0;3,) (hee we abbeviated ZN (k;l;;x) as Z N (k;l)). By definition, we have ZN (k; ;;x) F (k;m;;x)c(m,n,,x) and Z N(0;k ;;x) m m N P N (k;;x)r N (;x) m n n s N Q N (k ;;x). m [m] [m] m x C(m,n,,x)F (k ;n;;x) In the last euality, we have used the patial faction decomposition n m The poof is complete. m(m ) [m] [m] m x ( )m [m]![n m]! n h ([h] h x). Theefoe, the left hand side of (9) is eual to S k,,i. On the othe hand, we can calculate the ight hand side of (9) as follows. By (5), () and (3), we have ζa (i+e,k i e) ζa (i+e,k i e,)p+ζa (i+e,k i e+)p [ { } k + k + ( ) i+e (k i e) ( ) k i e (i+e) +k i+e k i e { } ] k + k + (k +) ( ) i+e +( ) k i e+ B p k i+e i+e k + p [ ] k + k + ( ) i+e (k i e+) +( ) i+e B p k (i+e) i+e k i e k + p [ ] k + +( ) i +e B p k i+e+ k + p. Let us fix 0 j < k. By (4) and Poposition 4.6, if j+ is odd, then ζa 3 ({} k j ) is divisible by p and Tj+, is divisible by p and if j+ is even, then ζa 3 ({} k j ) is divisible by p and Tj+, is divisible by p. Theefoe, ζa 3 ({} k j )Tj+, 0 and we see that the left hand side of (3) is eual to Tk,. On the othe hand, by using Poposition 4., Poposition 4. and (), we see that the ight hand side of (3) is eual to [ k k(k +) { } k + +k +3k + +(k +) k { } ] k + B p k (k +)+ (k +) k k + p k + k Bp k k + p. By Poposition 4.6, if l is odd, then T l,j is divisible by p and Tk l, j is divisible by p and if l is even, then T l,j is divisible by p and Tk l, j is divisible by p. Theefoe, we see that T l,j Tk l, j 0 and this gives ( ) T k, Tk,. (3)
