4 xanik XANIK TRUNNION BALL VALVES TRUNNION-MOUNTED BALL The ball is fixed and the seat rings are floating, free to move along the valve axis. Side load generated by the pressure acting on the ball is absorbed by bearings. At low pressure the seat sealing action is achieved by the thrust of the springs acting on the seat rings. As the pressure increases the fluid pressure pushes the seat rings against the ball. INDEPENDENT BALL AND STEM The ball and stem are independent to minimize the effect of the side thrust generated by the pressure acting on the ball. HEAVY-DUTY TRUNNION IN FOGED CARBON OR STAINLESS STEEL This design is standard in sized 2 though 12 for all pressure class and available over 12. DOUBLE BLOCK & BLEED The double block and bleed feature, both with the ball in the fully closed or fully open position, is a standard feature. FLOATING SEAT RINGS Two independent floating seat rings assure the bi-directional tightness of the valve. The seats are carefully designed to minimize the torque required to operate the valves without losing sealing power, which is assured from zero differential pressure to the valve s maximum rated pressure. Welded Body WELDED BODY DESIGN This design has the same features of the above Tree-piece design, but the covers are welded to body. BV - 4

BALL TRUNNION WITH TRUNNION BLOCKS Three - piece body ball valve with trunnion block and integrated ball trunnion. Standard for sizes 14 and larger. Two-piece Body CASTING TWO-PIECE BODY DESIGN This design has the same features of the above Tree-piece design. The body is made of casting materials. Some materials can not be obtained by forging, in this case the Two-piece Body is a good alternative. BV - 5

6 XANIK BALL VALVE DESIGN FEATURES STEM SEALING The graphite gasket can be replaced while the valve is underpressure and with the ball in anyposition, by removing the adaptorplate, after having released any pressure that may exist betweenthe upper O-ring and the graphitegasket, through the greaseinjection fitting hole. STEM SEALING AND EMERGENCY SEALING Two O-rigs and one graphite gasket, contained in the trunnion bushig, ensure the stem seal. An emergency sealant injection fitting is located between the stem O-rings. DOUBLE SEALS AT JOINTS All connecting parts employ a double sealing design : Graphite and an o-ring to ensure positive sealing and the Fire Safe feature BLOW OUT PROFF STEM Internally inserted back seated stem assures fire safey and blow-out prevention. SEAT SEALING Seats inserts of synthetic material shuch as Nylon, PTFE, or Peek are contained in the seat ring. With very low lne pressure, sealing is achieved by seat springs. With higher line pressure, the floating seat ring is pushed against the ball, which results in tighter sealing. BV - 6

7 EMERGENCY SEALANT INJECTION SYSTEM For 4 inch and larger trunnion mounted ball valves, or small valves on request, special sealants may be injected though a sealant injection fittings that are located on the side closures. A check valve is internally installed to prevent backflow of the sealant. XANIK BALL VALVE DESIGN FEATURES SAFETY CAP SEALANT INJECTION FITTING CHECK VALVE FIRE SAFE DESIGN When seat ring insert is damaged in a fire, the line pressure and the seat preloaded seat ring push the seat metal lip into the ball surface to cut off the line fluid and prevent the internal leakage to reach firesafe purpose. 8 XANIK BALL VALVE DESIGN FEATURES SOFT-SEATED VALVES In valves designed for standard service, a resilient material is inserted into the metal seat holder to provide a soft seating action in addition to the metal to metal seating between the ball and the seat rings. METAL-SEATED VALVES Valves designed for critcal service or for operation in temperatures that prohibit the use of a resilient material, have seating action provided by the metal to metal contact between the ball and the seat rings. Seating faces are hardfaced. Metal to metal sealed design is made by advanced hardening technologies, such HVOF technologies. Nickel base spray welding, ceramic material or Stellite spray welding can be used to provide a surface hardness of the ball and seats as hard as HRC74. BV - 8

9 DOUBLE BLOCK & BLEED XANIK BALL VALVE DESIGN FEATURES The double block and bleed feature, both with the ball in the fully closed or fully open position, is a standard feature. SELF-RELIEVING SEATS BODY CAVITY VENT VALVE Fluid pressure, both upstream and downstream, creates a resultant thrust that pushes the seat rings against the ball. UPSTREAM SIDE PRESSURE DOWNSTREAM SIDE PRESSURE PRESSURE ACTING UPSTREAM AND/ OR DOWNSTREAM BODY CAVITY VENT VALVE Fluid pressure acting in the body cavity creates a resultant thrust that pushes the seat rings away from the ball. The seats design permits the automatic releaseof any overpressure in the body cavity when the valve is in the fully open or fully closed position, therefore the seat rings are self-relieving.
