12 Changing he long-ime raing plug Selec he long-ime raing plug A number of seing ranges for he long-ime curren seing are available on Micrologic.0 and 5.0 conol unis by changing he long-ime raing plug. The available raing plugs are lised below: Par number Seing range for he value 3354 sandard 0.4 o x low seing 0.4 o 0.8 x high seing 0.8 o x wihou long-ime proecion = In for he shor-ime proecion seing Cauion. Following any modificaions o he long-ime raing plug, all conol-uni proecion parameers mus be checked. Change he long-ime raing plug Proceed in he following manner.. Open he circui breaker.. Open he proecive cover of he conol uni. 3. Compleely remove he longime raing plug screw. E5483A E5484A If no long-ime raing plug is insalled, he conol uni coninues o operae under he following downgraded condiions: c he long-ime curren seing is 0.4, whaever he posiion of he adjusmen dial c he long-ime ipping delay corresponds o he value indicaed by he adjusmen dial. E5485A 4. Snap ou he raing plug. 5. Clip in he new raing plug. E5486A Refi he screw for he long-ime raing plug. 7. Check and/or modify he conol-uni seings Micrologic.0, 5.0

13 Technical appendix Thermal memory Thermal memory The hermal memory is a means o simulae emperaure rise and cooling caused by changes in he flow of curren in he conducors. These changes may be caused by: c repeiive moor saring; c loads flucuaing near he proecion seings; c repeaed circui-breaker closing on a faul. Conol unis wihou a hermal memory (conary o bimeal sip hermal proecion) do no reac o he above ypes of overloads because hey do no las long enough o cause ipping. However, each overload produces a emperaure rise and he cumulaive effec can lead o dangerous overheaing. Conol unis wih a hermal memory record he emperaure rise caused by each overload. Even very shor overloads produce a emperaure rise ha is sored in he memory. This informaion sored in he hermal memory reduces he ipping ime. Micrologic conol unis and hermal memory All Micrologic conol unis are equipped as sandard wih a hermal memory. c for all proecion funcions, prior o ipping, he emperaure-rise and cooling ime consans are equal and depend on he ipping delay in quesion: v if he ipping delay is shor, he ime consan is low; v if he ipping delay is long, he ime consan is high. c for long-ime proecion, following ipping, he cooling curve is simulaed by he conol uni. Closing of he circui breaker prior o he end of he ime consan (approximaely 5 minues) reduces he ipping ime indicaed in he ipping curves. Shor-ime proecion and inermien fauls For he shor-ime proecion funcion, inermien currens ha do no provoke ipping are sored in he Micrologic memory. This informaion is equivalen o he long-ime hermal memory and reduces he ipping delay for he shor-ime proecion. Following a ip, he shor-ime sd ipping delay is reduced o he value of he minimum seing for 0 seconds. Micrologic.0, 5.0
