SB/F/0-300 arxiv:quant-ph/009157v1 7 Sep 00 so(, 1) scattering via Euclidean Connection for the Natanzon Hypergeometric Potentials Hermann Albrecht 1 and Sebastián Salamó 3 Universidad Simón Bolívar, Departamento de Física, A. P , Valle de Sartenejas, Miranda 1080-A, Venezuela. Abstract The so(, 1) Euclidean Connection 1] formalism is used to calculate the S matrix for the Hypergeometric Natanzon Potentials (HNP) ]. 1 Introduction Algebraic scattering has been an active research field for many years. Pioneer worksin the late 1960 sand 1970 sby Zwanziger3] and Barut, et al. ] dealing with the Coulomb system founded the basic ideas of this area. More recently, Alhassid et al. 1] developed an algebraic formalism, known as the Euclidean connection, to calculate the S matrix for systems whose Hamiltonian may be written as a function of the Casimir operator of an so(,1) algebra. In this work we study the application of the Euclidean connection to obtain in a straightforward manner the S matrix for the HNP, by extending the treatment developed in 5]. We start with a brief review of 5] and then introduce the basic ideas of the Euclidean connection for so(,1) 1]. Then we study its application to the scattering sector of the HNP, obtaining the S matrix for this family of potentials. Bound states As is well known, the Hypergeometric Natanzon Potentials (HNP) ] are given by: V(z) = f z (h 0 h 1 +f)z +h 0 +1 R(z) ( + a+ a+(c 1 c 0 )(z 1) 5 ) z (1 z) z(z 1) R(z) R(z) (1) where R(z) = az +τ z +c 0 = τ ac 0 τ = c 1 c 0 a () 1 halbrech@fis.usb.ve ssalamo@usb.ve 3 Accepted for publication in Rev. Mex. Física, 00. 1
where f, h 0, h 1, a, c 0, c 1 are the Natanzon Parameters and z(r) is a real arbitrary function that satisfies dz dr z(z 1) z = z(r) 0,1] (3) R(z) and the transformation r(z) is assumed to take r to z = 1. In 5] the bound state sector of the HNP was studied by means of an so(,1) algebra, obtaining an algebraic description of it. The realization used is J 0 = i φ z(z 1) J ± = e {± ±iφ z r 1 } i(z +1) φ z { 1 ±e ±iφ (z 1) 1 pν z ]} z z Q = z(z 1) z r + 1 (z 1) φ + 1 ( ip ν z 1 ) φ z z (z 1) z (z z 3z ) z ( p ν 1 )] + zz () wherepisaparameter,which allowsthe useoftheso(,1)algebratocompletely describe the HNP. The algebraic treatment makes use of (Q q)ψ(r,φ) = G(r)(E H)Ψ(r,φ) (5) where H is the standard radial Hamiltonian, q is the eigenvalue of the Casimir operatorqandg(r) isafunctionofr. Ψ(r,φ)issimultaneouslyaneigenfunction of Q and J 0 as well as of H, and is given by Ψ(r,φ) = e imφ Φ(r). For the bound states the D (+) representation is used, therefore the compact generator J 0 has eigenvalues 6] m = ν q ν + 1 ν = 0,1,,...,ν max (6) where The energy spectrum is obtained from 5]: z ν +1 = α ν β ν δ ν (7) α ν ae ν +f +1 = p ν +m ν β ν c 0 E ν +h 0 +1 = p ν m ν δ ν c 1 E ν +h 1 +1 = q ν +1 This are the basic equations of the algebrization derived in 5].
3 Euclidean connection The main motivation for Euclidean connection 1] is that the asymptotic states (regular solution) are written as 7]: φ ( ) = Ae ikr +Be ikr (8) where A and B are the Jost functions and e ±ikr are eigenfunctions of an Euclidean algebra e(): L z,p x ] = ip y L z,p y ] = ip x P x,p y ] = 0 (9) A realization in polar coordinates of the ladder and Casimir operators is as follows: P ± = e ±iφ i r + 1 ( ±i φ + 1 )] r P = r 1 ( r φ + 1 ) (10) where P ± P x ±ip y and P P + P. Taking the limit r, the asymptotic generators are obtained: P ( ) ± = ie ±iφ r L ( ) z = i φ P ( ) = r (11) that also closes an e() algebra. The eigenstate basis { ±k,m ( )} is ±k,m ( ) = e ±ikr e imφ (1) and the action of the asymptotic generators upon it is given by: P ( ) ± (±)k,m ( ) = (±)k (±)k,m±1 ( ) P ±k,m ( ) = k ±k,m ( ) (13) As is well known, we can expand the ladder operators of so(,1) in terms of the e() generators 8]. Therefore, given an so(, 1) algebrization of the bound states, it is natural to study its extension to the scattering sector by means of the mentioned expansion. The expanded ladder operator J ( ) + of so(,1) ( ) in the continuous representation (where j = 1 +if(k)) obtained in 1] is: J ( ) eiγ±(k) + (±k) = ( 1 ) ] ±k if(k) P ( ) + +L ( ) z P ( ) + (1) where f(k) is defined by: k = h ( f (k) ) E j = h q + 1 ] (15) 3
where h(η) is the function that connects the Energy E j with the Casimir eigenvalue q or, equivalently, the Hamiltonian with the Casimir operator Q. A recurrence relation may be calculated and solved for the coefficients A m and B m by applying (1) directly to (8), with φ ( ) = e imφ j,m ( ), and equating it to the action of J ( ) + upon j,m ( ). Since S m (k) = A m /B m, then: S m (k) = e imγ++γ ]Γ m+ 1 if(k)] Γ m+ 1 (16) +if(k)] (k) where (k) is a constant factor to be determined. S matrix for the HNP Starting from (), the asymptotic algebra is readily obtained by taking the limit r (or equivalently z = 1). J ( ) 0 = i φ (17) J ( ) ± = e ±iφ c1 r i φ ± 1 ] Q ( ) = c 1 r 1 Since these generators form also an so(, 1) algebra, the Euclidean connection may be applied directly. Equation (17) corresponds to the so(,1) ( ) algebra mentioned before. We only need to determine the expansion coefficients f(k) and γ ± (k). This is accomplished by equating the action of (1) with the one of (17), obtaining γ ± (k) = 0 f(k) = k c 1 h (η) = c 1 η (18) From (7) we know that E j = q h 1 c 1 = h q + 1 ] h(η) c 1 η + h 1 +1 c 1 (19) Since we are dealing with the scattering sector and V PNH h 1 +1 as r ], h 1 = 1. Therefore h (η) = h(η) and the S matrix is given by (16): S m (k) = Γ( m+ 1 1 ik c 1 ) Γ ( m ik c 1 ) m (k) (0) where m (k) is a regularfunction ofk derived by Natanzon ]. It can easily be verified that the poles are in agreement with the bound state energy spectrum.
5 Conclusions We have successfully extended the algebraic treatment for the bound states developed in 5] to the scattering sector via the so(, 1) Euclidean connection, therefore obtaining a purely algebraic description of the HN P using an so(, 1) algebra. This can also be accomplished with a methodology analogous to the one used by Frank, et al. 9]. This was done in detail and it is to be published soon 10]. Meanwhile, a short review may be found in this volume 11]. Even though Alhassid, et al. had obtained an algebraic description of the HN P in 1] by means of an so(,) algebra, it is important to notice that our treatment is simpler.
