1 Fuso procedure for wreath products of fte groups by the symmetrc group L. Poula d Adecy arxv: v2 [math.rt] 28 Ja 203 Mathematcs Laboratory of Versalles (CNRS UMR 800, Versalles-Sat-Quet Uversty, 45 Aveue des Etats-Us Versalles, Frace Abstract Let G be a fte group. A complete system of parwse orthogoal dempotets s costructed for the wreath product of G by the symmetrc group by meas of a fuso procedure, that s by cosecutve evaluatos of a ratoal fucto wth values the group rg. Ths complete system of dempotets s dexed by stadard Youg mult-tableaux. Assocated to the wreath product of G by the symmetrc group, a Baxterzed form for the Art geerators of the symmetrc group s defed ad appears the ratoal fucto used the fuso procedure.. Itroducto The fuso procedure for the symmetrc group S orgates [9] ad has the bee developed the more geeral stuato of Hecke algebras []. The procedure allows to express a complete set of prmtve dempotets, dexed by stadard Youg tableaux, of the group rg CS va a certa lmtg process o a ratoal fucto several varables wth values CS. I[2], a alteratve approach of the fuso procedure for the symmetrc group has bee proposed, ad s based o the exstece of a maxmal commutatve set CS formed by the Jucys Murphy elemets. More precsely, ths approach reles o a expresso for the prmtve dempotets terms of the Jucys Murphy elemets [0, 3] ad trasforms ths expresso to a fuso formula. The evaluatos of the varables of the ratoal fucto are ow cosecutve. Ths verso of the fuso procedure has the bee geeralzed to the Hecke algebras of type A [6], to the Brauer algebras [3, 4], to the Brma Wezl Murakam algebras [5], to the complex reflecto groups of type G(m,, [4] ad to the Ark Koke algebras [5]. Let G be a fte group. The am of ths artcle s to geeralze the fuso procedure, the sprt of [2], for the wreath product G of the group G by the symmetrc group S. The represetato theory of the group G s well-kow, see e.g. [8] or [], ad the rreducble represetatos are labelled by mult-parttos of sze. Aalogues of the Jucys Murphy elemets for the group G have bee troduced [6, 7] ad used for a ductve approach to the represetato theory of the cha of groups G [6].

2 Therreducblerepresetato V λ of G correspodgto themult-partto λ admtsthefollowg decomposto, as a vector space, V λ = W T, where the drect sum s over the set of stadard Youg mult-tableaux of shape λ. The subspaces W T are commo egespaces for the Jucys Murphy elemets j,..., j of the group G. Let E T be the dempotet of C G assocated to the subspace W T. The dempotets E T, where T rus through the set of stadard mult-tableaux of sze, form together a complete system of parwse orthogoal dempotets of C G. We state here the ma result of the artcle. Theorem. The dempotet E T of C G correspodg to the stadard mult-tableau T ca be obtaed by the followg cosecutve evaluatos E T = F G λ F λ Φ(u,...,u,v,...,v v (α =ξ (α p, =,..., α =,...,m u =c G u=c G. ( The fucto Φ appearg ( s a ratoal fucto several varables wth values the group rg C G ad F G λ, F λ are complex umbers. The egevalues of the Jucys Murphy elemets are ot suffcet to dstgush betwee the dfferet subspaces W T. Therefore the commutatve famly used here for the fuso procedure s formed by the Jucys Murphy elemets j,..., j, together wth a addtoal set of elemets {g (α } of C G. The elemets g (α are mages C G of a set of elemets {g (α } whch learly spa the ceter of CG - the dces =,..., dcate whch copes of CG C G they belog (see Sectos 2 ad 3 for precse deftos. The set of varables s splt to two parts: the varables v (α at complex umbers ξ (α ν are frst evaluated smultaeously whch are egevalues of elemets g (α. These varables correspod to the postos of the odes of a mult-partto (ther places the m-tuple. The the varables u,...,u are cosecutvely evaluated at the egevalues of the Jucys Murphy elemets j,..., j ad are related to the classcal cotets of the odes of a mult-partto. The ratoal fucto Φ ca be wrtte as the product of two fuctos, the frst oe cotag the varables u,...,u ad the secod oe cotag the varables v (α. As the fuso procedure for the symmetrc groups [2], the fucto related to the cotets (that s, cotag the varables u,...,u s buld up from a Baxterzed form of the geerators of S sde C G. However, the Baxterzed form used here s a o-trval geeralzato, assocated to the fte group G, of the usual Baxterzato for the symmetrc groups. The coeffcet (F G λ F λ appearg ( oly depeds o the mult-partto λ ad ot o the stadard mult-tableau T of shape λ. The elemet F λ s the product of the hook legths of the odes the mult-partto λ ad s depedet of the group G. The addtoal factor F G λ depeds o the umbers ξ ν (α, ad tur o the choce of the set {g (α } of cetral elemets of CG. 2

3 I geeral the subspaces W T are ot oe-dmesoal, ad therefore the dempotet E T of C G s ot geeral prmtve. I fact, the subspaces W T are all oe-dmesoal f ad oly f G s a Abela fte group. I ths stuato the dempotets E T, where T rus through the set of stadard mult-tableaux of sze, form together a complete system of prmtve parwse orthogoal dempotets of C G. For a Abela fte group G, we provde a smplfed fuso procedure for the wreath product G. Ths smplfed verso s obtaed by replacg, the fucto Φ appearg (, the set {g (α } of cetral elemets of CG by a smaller subset. If G s the cyclc group of order m the the group G s somorphc to the complex reflecto group of type G(m,,. A fuso procedure for the complex reflecto group of type G(m,, has bee gve [4]. The fuso procedure preseted here, ts smplfed verso, s slghtly dfferet tha the oe [4], amely the Baxterzed forms are dfferet. The Baxterzed form used here, whe G s the cyclc group of order 2, has bee used [2] for a fuso procedure for the Coxeter groups of type B (that s, the complex reflecto groups of type G(2,,. The paper s orgazed as follows. Sectos 2 ad 3 cota deftos ad otatos about the fte group G ad the wreath product G. The Jucys Murphy elemets for the group G are defed Secto 4. I Secto 5 we troduce the Baxterzed form, assocated to the wreath product G, for the Art geerators of the symmetrc group ad prove that these Baxterzed elemets satsfy the Yag Baxter equato wth spectral parameters. I Secto 6, we recall stadard results o the represetato theory of the groups G ad gve the formula for the dempotets E T terms of the elemets j,..., j ad g (α. The ma result of the artcle, whch gves the fuso procedure for the group G, s proved Secto 7. I Secto 8, we cosder the case of a Abela fte group G ad provde a smplfed fuso formula ths stuato. Notato. Baxterzed elemets Recall the stadard Art presetato of the symmetrc group S : the group S s geerated by elemets s,...s wth defg relatos as (9, wth s replaced by s. The stadard Baxterzato for the geerators s,...,s of S s: s (c,c := s + c c for =,..., ; the parameters c ad c are called spectral parameters. The elemets s,...,s, defed by (8, of G geerate a subgroup somorphc to the symmetrc group S. We defe a geeralzato of the Baxterzed elemets s (c,c, assocated to the group G, as follows: s (c,c := s + e,+ c c for =,...,. (24 Proposto 2. The Baxterzed elemets s (c,c satsfy the Yag Baxter equato wth spectral parameters: they satsfy also s (c,c s + (c,c s (c,c = s + (c,c s (c,c s + (c,c for =,..., 2; (25 s (c,c s j (d,d = s j (d,d s (c,c for,j =,..., such that j >, s (c,c s (c,c = e2,+ (c c 2 for =,...,. (26 Proof. The frst relato (26 s mmedate usg that s s j = s j s ad e,+ e j,j+ = e j,j+ e,+ for,j =,..., such that j > (see (9 ad (9. The secod relato (26 follows from a drect calculato whch oe uses that s e,+ = e,+ s for =,..., (see (7. 10 We detfy parttos wth ther Youg dagrams: the Youg dagram of λ s a left-justfed array of rows of odes cotag λ j odes the j-th row, j =,...,k; the rows are umbered from top to bottom. Note that the umber of odes the dagram of λ s equal to, the sze of λ. Recall that, for a partto λ, a ode θ of λ s called removable f the set of odes obtaed from λ by removg θ s stll a partto. A ode θ ot λ s called addable f the set of odes obtaed from λ by addg θ s stll a partto. A m-partto λ, or a Youg m-dagram λ, of sze s a m-tuple of parttos, λ := (λ (,...,λ (m, such that the total umber of odes the assocated Youg dagrams s equal to, that s λ ( + + λ (m =. A par (θ,k cosstg of a ode θ ad a teger k {,...,m} s called a m-ode. The teger k s called the posto of the m-ode. Let λ = (λ (,...,λ (m be a m-partto. A m-ode θ = (θ,k λ s called removable from λ f the ode θ s removable from λ (k. A m-ode θ = (θ,k / λ s called addable to λ f the ode θ s addable to λ (k. The set of m-odes removable from λ s deoted by E (λ ad the set of m-odes addable to λ s deoted by E + (λ. The umber p(θ s the posto of θ ad the umber c(θ s called the classcal cotet of the m-ode θ. For a m-partto λ, we defe F G λ := θ λ ( m ( ξ (α S (α ξ (α ξ (α p(θ ( ξ (α p(θ ξ(α, (28 where the sets S (α ad the umbers ξ (α ν, for α,ν =,...,m, are defed Secto Hook legth. A m-tableau of shape λ s a bjecto betwee the set {,...,} ad the set of m-odes λ, that s, a m-tableau of shape λ s obtaed by placg the umbers,..., the m-odes of λ. We call the umber the sze of the m-tableau. A m-tableau s stadard f the umbers crease alog ay row ad ay colum of every dagram λ. For a stadard m-tableau T, we deote respectvely by c(t ad p(t the classcal cotet ( ad the posto of the m-ode wth umber. For example, for the stadard 3-tableau T = 3,, 2, we have c(t = 0, c(t 2 = 0, c(t 3 = ad p(t =, p(t 2 = 3, p(t 3 =. For a stadard m-tableau T, we defe the G-cotet c G (T of the m-ode wth umber by c G (T := c(t d p(t, (30 where we recall that d,...,d m are the dmesos of the parwse o-somorphc rreducble represetatos W,...,W m of G. For example, for m = 3 ad for the same stadard 3-tableau as above, we have: c G (T = 0, c G (T 2 = 0, c G (T 3 = d. Let v be a m-tuple of varables, v := (v (,...,v (m. Idempotets of G correspodg to stadard m-tableaux The rreducble represetatos of G are dexed by the set of m-parttos of (see e.g. [8] or []. Let λ be a m-partto of ad deote by V λ the vector space carryg the rreducble represetato of G correspodg to λ. Let T be a stadard m-tableau of shape λ. We set W T := W p(t, where we recall that W,...,W m are the rreducble represetato spaces of the group G. The the vector space V λ admts the followg decomposto: = V λ = W T, where the drect sum s over the set of stadard m-tableaux of shape λ. We deote by E T the dempotet of C G correspodg to the subspace W T. Recall that the set of elemets {g (α k, α =,...,m, k =,...,} together wth the Jucys Murphy elemets j,..., j form a commutatve famly of elemets of C G (see Secto 4. For ay stadard m-tableau T of sze, the subspace W T s a commo egespace for ths famly of elemets. Moreover, we have: g (α k E T = E T g (α k = ξ (α p(t k E T for α =,...,m ad k =,...,, (35 where the umbers ξ α are defed by formula (3; from the results [6], we also have j k E T = E T j k = c G (T ke T for k =,...,. (36 For two stadard m-tableaux T ad T of sze such that T T, we have: ether there exsts α {,...,m} ad k {,...,} such that ξ (α p(t k ξ(α p(t k. or there exsts k {,...,} such that c G (T k c G (T k. Ideed, f there s some k {,...,} such that p(t k p(t k the ξ (α p(t k ξ(α p(t k for some α {,...,m} (see Secto 2. If p(t k = p(t k for ay k =,...,m the, uless c G (T k c G (T k for some k {,...,}, we have that T ad T must have the same shape; moreover the m-tableau T must be obtaed from T by permutg the etres sde each dagoal of each dagram. As both m-tableaux are stadard, we must have T = T whch cotradcts the assumpto. Thus c G (T k c G (T k for some k {,...,}. Thus,thedempotetE T cabeexpressedtermsoftheelemetsg (α k, α =,...,m, k =,..., ad the Jucys Murphy elemets j,..., j. 2

13 Let λ be a m-partto of ad T be a stadard m-tableau of shape λ. Deote by θ the m-ode of T cotag the umber, ad for brevty, set c G := c G (θ ad p = p(θ. As the m-tableau T s stadard, the m-ode θ of λ s removable. Let U be the stadard m-tableau obtaed from T by removg θ ad let µ be the shape of U. We have the followg ductve formula for E T : E T = E U κ: κ E +(µ c G (κ c G j c G (κ c G c G (κ ( κ: κ E +(µ ξ (α p(κ ξ(α p g (α ξ (α p(κ ξ (α p ξ (α p(κ, (37 where we recall that E + (µ s the set of addable m-odes of the m-partto µ; the tal codto s E U0 =, where U 0 s the uque stadard m-tableau of sze 0. (40 Remarks. ( The elemets E T, wth T rug through the set of stadard m-tableaux of sze, form a complete system of parwse orthogoal dempotets of C G. For a stadard m-tableau T, the dempotet E T s prmtve f ad oly f W p(t s oe-dmesoal for ay {,...,}. Thus the elemets E T form a complete system of prmtve parwse orthogoal dempotets of C G f ad oly f the group G s Abela. Remark. Durg the proof of the Theorem 4, we trasformed the defg formula (43 for the ratoal fucto Φ(u,...,u,v,...,v to the formula (46. The formula (46 s well adapted to the structure of cha wth respect to of the groups G, the sese that, usg formula (46, we wrte Φ(u,...,u,v,...,v = φ (u,...,u,v Φ ( (u,...,u,v,...,v, where Φ ( (u,...,u,v,...,v s the ratoal fucto correspodg to G (see as a ratoal fucto wth values G ad φ (u,...,u,v s defed by (45. The formula (46 s ofte useful for explct calculatos. Examples. Here we cosder the example whe G s the symmetrc group o 3 letters. To avod cofuso we wll keep the otato G for ths group, ad G for the wreath product of G by the symmetrcgroups. We usethestadardcyclc otato forpermutatos adwedeotetheelemets of G by G, (,2, (,3, (2,3, (,2,3 ad (,3,2. The cetral elemets, defed (2, of CG are g ( := 3 ( (,2 +(,3 +(2,3, g (2 := 2 ( (,2,3 +(,3,2 ad g (3 := G. Let ρ,ρ 2,ρ 3 be the parwse o-somorphc rreducble represetatos of G, amely ρ s the trval represetato, ρ 2 s the sg represetato ad ρ 3 s the two-dmesoal rreducble represetato of G. The umbers defed (3 are equal to: ξ ( =, ξ ( 2 =, ξ ( 3 = 0, ξ (2 =, ξ (2 2 =, ξ (2 3 = 2 ad ξ (3 =, ξ (3 2 =, ξ (3 3 =. Thus the fuctos defed by (5 are, ths example, g ( (v = ( g ( 2 +vg ( +v 2, g (2 (v = g (2 +v 2 ad g (3 (v =. 7

18 Recall the otato g (α, α =,2,3 ad =,...,, for mages of g (α C G (see (. For the 3-partto of sze (,,, we have, from formulas (28 ad (29, F G (,, = 3 ad F (,, =. We obta for the dempotet E (,, of C G ( = CG: E (,, = 3( (g ( ( 2 ( +g g ( For the 3-partto of sze 2 (,,, we have F G (,, = 9 2 ad F (,, =. We obta, from Theorem 4 ad usg formula (46, E ( = 2 (g,, 2 9 s ( 2 (c 2,0s ( 2 (g (2 2 3E (.,, I partcular, Theorem 4 asserts that the above fucto s o-sgular at c 2 = 0 although, from (24, s (c 2,0 s sgular at c 2 = 0. As shows the proof of the Lemma 6, ths comes from the fact that ( (g ( 2 e,2 2 (g (2 2 E (,, = 0. So actually we have E (,, 2 = 2 ( (g ( 2 2 (g (2 2 9 = 2 ( (g ( 2 2 (g ( E (,, ( (g ( c2 =0 ( 2 ( +g g ( For the 3-partto of sze 3 (,,, we have F G (,, = 27 2 ad F (,, = 2. We otce that the cetral elemet g (3 = G does ot appear the fuso formula (because ξ (3 = ξ (3 2 = ξ (3 3. Moreover, the examples above, we could have used oly the cetral elemet g ( sce ts egevalues are eough to dstgush betwee the rreducble represetatos of G; amely, we would have obtaed = 2( (g ( 2 ( +g, E (,, 8

I geeral, the cetral elemet correspodg to the cojugacy class of the ut elemet of G ever appears. Nevertheless, geeral, all other cetral elemets (2 of CG are ecessary. I the followg Secto, we expla how to reduce the umber of elemets g (α appearg the fuso procedure for the partcular stuato of a Abela fte group G. 8. Smplfed fuso formula whe G s Abela From ow let G be ay fte Abela group. It s a stadard fact that G s thus somorphc to a drect product of fte cyclc groups. So we assume that G = C k C k2 C kn, (56 where N s a o-egatve teger, k,k 2,...,k N 2 ad C kα s the cyclc group of order k α, α =,...,N. Set m := k k 2...k N, the cardalty of G. As G s Abela, the umber of ts cojugacy classes s equal to m. The set of cetral elemets g (α of CG defed (2 cocde here wth the set of elemets of G. All these elemets appear the fuso formula of the prevous Secto, see (4. We wll provde a smplfed formula usg a certa subset of elemets of G. For α =,...,N, we choose ad deote by t (α a elemet of G whch geerates the cyclc group C kα appearg (56. Notce that the elemets t (α, α =,...,N, satsfy the relatos ( t (α k α = ad t (α t (α = t (α t (α for α,α =,...,N. Moreover the elemets t (α, α =,...,N, geerate the group G ad thus the kowledge of ther egevalues s suffcet to dstgush betwee the rreducble represetatos of G. Namely, ay rreducble represetato of G s oe-dmesoal ad s obtaed by sedg t (α to a k α -th root of uty for α =,...,N (there are m o-somorphc represetatos of ths sort ad they exhaust the set of rreducble represetatos of G. So ow let S (α := {ξ (α,...,ξ (α k α } be the set of all k α -th roots of uty, ad, for =,...,, defe as (2 t (α ξ (v := (α S (α(v ξ(α v t (α for α =,...,N, (57 where we recall that t (α, =,...,, s the mage of the elemet t (α by the jectve morphsm ι from CG to C G, see (. From (6, t s straghtforward to see that we have, for =,..., ad α =,...,N, t (α (v = v kα +v kα 2 t (α + +v ( t (α 9 kα 2 ( (α kα + t.

20 We defe Γ (v,...,v := ad, for a m-partto λ (compare wth (28, F G λ := ( N θ λ ( N = ξ (α S (α ξ (α ξ (α p(θ ( ξ (α t (α (v (α, (58 p(θ ξ(α, (59 The formulato of the Theorem 4 remas the same wth Γ(v,...,v replaced by Γ (v,...,v the defg formula (43 for the fucto Φ(u,...,u,v,...,v, ad F G λ replaced by F G λ. Remark. Let ζ be a k-th root of uty. Recall that ξ (ζ ξ = kζ, where the product s take o the k-th roots of uty ξ dfferet from ζ. Thus, for G as (56, we have for the coeffcets F G λ defed by (59: F G λ = ( N k α θ λ ξ (α. p(θ Example. Cosder the stuato N = ad k = 3 (56. Thus G s the cyclc group of order 3, ad G s the complex reflecto group of type G(3,,. Let t := t ( ad let {ξ,ξ 2,ξ 3 } be the set of all thrd roots of uty. The Theorem 4 ( ts smplfed verso explaed above asserts that, for example, the dempotet E ( ca be expressed as 3,, 2 E ( 3,, 2 = ξ2 ξ 3 54 s 2(,0s (,0s s 2 s (0,0s (ξ 2 +ξ t 3 +t 2 3 (ξ2 3 +ξ 3t 2 +t 2 2 (ξ2 +ξ t +t 2. As already see the examples of the precedg Secto, the proof of the Theorem 4 shows that we actually have: E ( 3,, 2 Refereces = ξ2 ξ 3 54 s 2s (,0s s 2 (ξ 2 +ξ t 3 +t 2 3(ξ 2 3 +ξ 3 t 2 +t 2 2(ξ 2 +ξ t +t 2.
