2 WHAT ARE WE GOING TO STUDY? The application of the mechanics of material to the design and analysis of machine components and systems.

3 WHAT WILL I LEARN? How to determine if components commonly found in mechanical machinery have adequate strength and safety. 4 PREREQUISITES MER 311 : Advanced Mechanics. MER 312 : Dynamics and Kinematics.

5 COURSE FORMAT AND MEETING TIME LECTURE: MW 1:45 4:05 pm F 1:45 2:50 pm The course does not have a lab component but carries a major design project. Friday classes will mostly be used to discuss the project design and to administer quizzes.

8 Course grades will be determined using these weights: 10% for homeworks 10% for quizzes 20% for Design Project 40% for exams (two) 20% for the final exam Letter grades are assigned as follows: % A-, % A 80-83% B-, % B, % B % C-, 74 76% C, % C % D.

9 WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME? Attend Classes - It is professional to be ready and have good attendance. DO HOMEWORK - Homework is due on the scheduled date and time. - Keep a portfolio of all the home works: Will aid in studying for exams. Will facilitate grading

10 WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME? - Submit a technical report on design project. - Pass two exam given during the term. - Pass the final comprehensive exam.
