F the design f an ptimied gemet and the pedictin f the peatinal behaviu an accuate knwledge f the dependencies f the field quantities inside the magnetic cicuits is necessa. This pape pvides the edd cuent and ce flu densit distibutin analsis in linea inductin mt. Magnetic flu in the ai gap f the linea inductin mt (LIM) is educed t vaius lsses such as end effects, finges, effect, skin effects etc. The finite element based sftwae package COMSOL Multiphsics Inc. USA is used t get the eliable and accuate cmputatinal esults f ptimiatin the pefmance f LIM. The gemetical chaacteistics f LIM ae vaied t find the ptimal pint f thust and minimum flu leakage duing static and dnamic cnditins. Linea Inductin Mt Mdel The tw dimensinal finite element analsis mdel f LIM has been designed with fllwing specificatins [1]. The gemetical view is shwn in Fig. 1. Numbe f phases: 3, numbe f ples: 3 Length f pima stack: 40 mm Width f magnet: 14 mm Length f mve: 170 mm eight f mve: 45 mm, eight f pemanent magnet teeth: 4 mm Thickness f back-in: 10 mm Ai gap length: vaied fm 0.5 mm t 3.5 mm Fig. 1. As we ae well awae that the sltted pima stuctue with its winding is b n means an ideal bunda cnditins, even a sufficientl simple ne. Whee, the slutin t the gvening field equatins can be btained. T educe the bunda value pblem the actual sltted stuctue is eplaced with smth suface and the cuent caing windings ae eplaced b fictitius, infinitel thin cuent elements called cuent sheets, having linea cuent densities (A/m). In de t impve accuac, the LIM has been cmputed at diffeent ai gaps and it was bseved that ent-end-effect culd be educed t high etent with change in the ai-gap b keeping the speed f LIM at cnstant value f 36 m/s. 3. Finite Element Analsis Magnetic flu densit and edd cuent densit distibutin f the LIM mdel unde cnsideatin has been cmputed b using FEM based package. Tpe f elements ae used is Lagange linea. The efined mesh shwn in Fig. cnsists f 4644 elements with 356 degee f feedm (DOF). The numbe f bunda elements ae 67 and numbe f vete elements ae 140. Fig.. Meshing f LIM with Adaptive Refinement. 4. Simulatin Results The Dichlet bunda cnditin n LIM mdel has been empled. The suface plt btained f magnetic flu distibutin is shwn in Fig. 3. The magnetic flu densit f secnda ce has been analed alng the mt length duing the velcit f 36 m/s f mt. The ent end the magnetic field is weakened b the ent end effect. The field is builds up gaduall and ises shapl nea the eist end. Figue 4 shws the finge effect cleal with magnetiatin cntu. The suface cuent densit plt is shwn in Fig. 5, fm which it can be seen that edd cuent ae me when flu cncentatin is stng. On the the hand the leakage eactance f the LIM is deceased and me flu is cncentated int the ai gap esulting in an incease f the develped thust. The Simulatin esults with diffeent ai-gap fm 0.5 mm t 3.5 mm have been cmputed and cmpaed. It is fund that the ptimiatin in pefmance achieved f LIM whee the ai gap is 1 mm between the mve and stat, while the elative pemeabilit is fied in between t 1.5.
