7 This formula is not useful for finding a solution. For a irichlet problem, u is uniquely determined by its value on. There is no freedom in choosing u/. However, this formula is a step towards Green s function, the use of which eliminates the u/ term. Green s Function It is possible to derive a formula that expresses a harmonic function u in terms of its value on only. efinition: Let x be an interior point of.
