Explratry Testing Why we d it Hw we d it Authr: Petter Mattssn Overall, it's ne f the best descriptins f ET that I've ever read. Gerald M. Weinberg This article will prbably inspire a lt f peple. Trbjörn Ryber I like yur cnversatinal writing style... Overall it's pretty gd. James Bach This article presents a summary f my wn experiences and my view n Explratry Testing. It describes the way I strive t apply this apprach t any prject that I am participating in. These wrds are definitely nt describing a new breathtaking way f handling this apprach but they are indeed my wrds and they are my cntributin t the industry and the peple that helped me n the way. See it as a teaser t the wnderful wrld f explratin. Yu see, the cmplete stry f this will nt be cmplete until it is yur wn stry. Find my article interesting r just thrw it away, that decisin is cmpletely yurs, nt mine. /Petter Mattssn

Abut the authr Petter Mattssn has been wrking within the area f test management since His main field f cmpetence is within the areas f telecm, industrial autmatin and prduct develpment. A lt f his knwledge and experience cmes frm cntinuus participatin in test frums, test gatherings and frm cmmunicatin with test racles, mentrs and ther like-minded clleagues and friends frm the industry. He has at several times perfrmed talks at test cnferences and at general- and cmpany specific wrkshps in the subject f e.g. Explratry Testing and Sessin-Based Test Management. Petter has been wrking fr CGI since THE JOURNEY BEGINS The first time I stumbled acrss the apprach f Explratry Testing was when I was emplyed as a Test Manager at a prduct develpment cmpany that executed a terrifying amunt f scripted test cases. Abut scripted test cases were manually executed fr perids f 6 weeks. We realized we were nt perfrming testing anymre; we were just checking test cases. A lt f the test cases were nt even up t date. We didn t have time t update them as all f ur time was spent n executing them. We decided it had t stp as we didn t knw hw reliable the test results were. What kind f infrmatin did we share t ur stakehlders? We didn t knw and we wanted t find that ut. During this perid, I saw a cmmercial ad fr a curse called Rapid Sftware Testing perfrmed by James Bach. Perfrming tests mre rapidly was exactly what we needed, s I signed up fr the curse. This 3-day curse cmpletely changed my way f thinking. Nt nly when it cmes t testing but als in my everyday life. James gt me t think abut purpse and value in everything I did. Critical thinking and testing statements that were presented t me became a part f wh I am and has been ever since. James pened the drs t a wrld f truth and explratin and I cannt thank him enugh fr that. Nt nly did James shw me the imprtance f purpse and value, critical thinking and questining statements. He als made me aware f the challenges with dcumentatin, the apprach f Explratry Testing and a tl t cmbine the tw f them (SBTM Sessin Based Test Management). WHAT ABOUT DOCUMENTATION? There is ne thing in particular abut dcumentatin that desn t make sense t me. It desn t respnd autmatically t change. It needs t be manually updated by smene that hpefully knws the truth abut that change. As we all knw, the test specificatin is a frm f dcumentatin, a test case warehuse filled with scripted test cases. 1 If we are frced t use nthing but the scripted test cases when we perfrm tests we need t have them up t date based n what we've learned t be able t bring ut the mst reliable infrmatin frm the prduct we are testing. In my pinin and based n my experience that is nt pssible. The cntext will change many times and very fast and we will nt be able t keep up the speed when it cmes t rewriting the test cases t match the changes. The result f this is that the test results based n the test cases will mst certainly nt be reliable. Hw d we dare t rely nly n dcuments with this in mind? Hw d we dare t rely nly n dcuments when we, by the end f the day, might be lying t ur stakehlders abut the actual status f the prduct? 1 Scripted test cases - In this case I refer t test cases including a step-by-step descriptin aimed fr manual test executin. 1

S what is the cnclusin f all f this? Shuld we abandn the apprach f using scripted test cases? Well, I dn t think s. In happy path testing I still think they have a missin t accmplish. We need scripted test cases t secure the test cverage f prduct areas and functinality we knw we must check fr every prduct versin that is delivered t us. Results frm scripted tests als bring us input in an easy way t create reprts that ur managers are s keen n t get. Dn t get me wrng here; f curse we shuld deliver reprts t ur managers, but ONLY IF THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE ASKING FOR! At least challenge them t defend their request. What abut the negative tests and the tests that need t be perfrmed t explre requirements, the prduct itself and unplanned r planned changes during the develpment and/r the test phase (depending n if yu are using a waterfall r an agile develpment apprach)? Well my friends, in that case we will use Explratry Testing. WHAT IS EXPLORATORY TESTING (TO ME)? When it cmes t defining Explratry Testing I stick with James Bach s brilliant definitin: Explratry testing is simultaneus learning, test design, and test executin. Ding it simultaneusly, synchrnized with the cntext f the prduct we are testing is the whle pint f Explratry Testing and pin pints the difference frm fllwing predefined scripted test cases. The Explratry Testing apprach is mre dynamic than the ther which brings us a pwerful tl t discver critical prblems in an extremely efficient way. My experience tells me that t be able t bring ut the freshest infrmatin arund a prduct in its current cntext we must use ur mst suitable tl in ur tlbx fr that. The different cnditins arund a prduct are cnstantly changing and we need t use the best apprach t be able t match any f these changes and that is withut n dubt the Explratry Testing apprach. We design ur tests as we g. We change the tests cntinuusly based n everything we've learned s far, including the test we just did, t gain test value. We fllw the cntext f the prduct. We get instant reliable quality infrmatin abut the prduct under test right here and right nw. S if yu are lking fr the true status abut yur prduct right here and right nw yu need a better apprach than using nly scripted test cases that were created smetimes mnths befre yu actually had the prduct in frnt f yu. The decisins are t be taken nw, right? Nt in the future. Then we need testing that addresses that. The essence f Explratry Testing is lying in the hands f the tester. In this apprach the tester is given freedm and respnsibility fr ptimizing (and managing) the quality f his r her wrk. It is all based n the experience, the verall knwledge and the mtivatin f the tester. It is the decided actins perfrmed by the tester that eventually result in the quality f the tests and the test result. The testers are NOT frced t fllw testing instructins and we encurage them t g by their intuitin rather than managing them. Testing instructins are used nly as a tl t widen r fcus the structure f the tester's testing ideas. We must trust the actins taken by the testers! Therefre we need t value gd testing skills and, thrugh training and management, encurage the testers t cntinuusly imprve them. WHAT IS SESSION-BASED TEST MANAGEMENT (SBTM)? It is hard fr me t talk abut Explratry Testing (ET) withut mentining what SBTM is abut, as I am always using SBTM tgether with ET. The Bach brthers, James and Jn, gave birth t the SBTM apprach in SBTM is an apprach used t measure and dcument Explratry Testing withut killing the purpse f it. It brings the tester guidelines t fcus n a high pririty risk area r specific functinality the test sessin shuld be aimed at. SBTM makes sme testing elements easier such as reprting, test cverage visibility and t imprve the tests based n previus test sessins. 2

SBTM is based n a sessin reprt which mst ften cnsists f a plain text file. The sessin reprt I use includes the fllwing sectins (stlen frm a template designed by James and Jn): Charter The missin f the test sessin described in ne r a few sentences. The charter describes what t fcus n during the test sessin. The charter culd als cntain infrmatin abut which prduct area the charter is aimed fr. If there is a need yu can als add infrmatin abut in what way it shuld be tested. E.g. fcus n perfrmance tests r simply just explre the pin pinted area. New charters can be created in advance r during test sessins. If a tester e.g. finds a new ptential prblem area which is nt a part f the current charter then he r she culd write a new charter. Start Date and time fr the test sessin start up. Tester Name f the tester(s). Duratin A predefined amunt f time that shuld be spent n the current test sessin. The different values that I use are Shrt (60min), Nrmal (90min) and Lng (120 min). After a cmpleted test sessin the tester fills in the mst suitable value f duratin. Task breakdwn Sessin setup. Percent f sessin duratin spent n setup. Integer between 0-100*. Test design and executin. Percent f sessin duratin spent lking fr prblems. Integer between 0-100*. Bug investigatin and reprting. Percent f sessin duratin spent n investigating prblems nce they were fund. Integer between 0-100*. Charter vs. pprtunity. The syntax fr this is a rati f the sessin duratin spent n the charter vs. investigating smething else that was nt part f the charter. I.e. 85/15*. We really encurage testers t investigate anything that seems t be a prblem. Smetimes this means they have t g ff-charter. Time spent n pprtunity mst ften result in new ideas which culd generate new and/r imprved charters. *Duratin in the reprt desn t have t be exact as we want t spend mre time n testing and less time n administratin. The task breakdwn sectin brings us valuable infrmatin e.g. abut hw much time that really was spent n qualitative testing. If we find ut that t much time is spent n ther stuff then we knw that changes need t be dne because it is the testing itself that is ur missin. Data files E.g. files used as test data during the test sessin which culd be gd t have fr the tester that will execute this sessin in a later iteratin f the prject. Files that are mentined here shuld be saved at a predefined knwn lcatin. Test ntes Accrding t me this is the mst imprtant sectin tgether with the charter. 3

The tester(s) write dwn anything f imprtance abut the test sessin that e.g. shws hw the included tests were perfrmed, hw the test apprach develped during the sessin and what challenges that needed t be slved r that was at least nted. They can chse either t write the ntes during the sessin r afterwards. The frmat fr the test ntes is decided by the tester, anything ges. I always tell the testers that I als want them t add tips fr the next tester. E.g. if there are any ther parts f the charter area that shuld be explred t cver the charter mre thrughly r in anther way t refine the tests f this particular charter the next time it is perfrmed. Bugs Here we list the bugs ne by ne that were fund during the test sessin. The mst cmmn way is t just add the title and the ID number fr the reprted bug frm the defect management system that is used at the current cmpany. A bug is anything that threatens the value f the prduct. 2 Issues Here the tester can list any issues that came up during the test sessin. E.g. if the test envirnment caused prblems r if a prblem was fund that needs mre explratin t it. Is it a bug r nt? An issue is anything that threatens the value f the testing, r f the prject, r f the business. Issues that affect testing make it slwer and harder. Issues give bugs mre pprtunity and mre time t hide, s fixing issues might smetimes be mre imprtant than fixing bugs. 3 Anther pwerful part f SBTM that enables very imprtant parts such as caching and mentring is called debriefing. As a test manager, yu want t make sure t steer the testers if they get ff track. The tester(s) ntifies the test manager after a cmpleted test sessin and then they run thrugh the sessin reprt sectins by wrd f muth. I try t perfrm a single debrief in 15 minutes. If yu are new t debriefing it will definitely take mre than 15 minutes. At least try t keep them shrt and stick t the sessin reprt. Debriefing gives us extremely quick feedback n the prduct under test. The test manager is cnstantly updated and can ntify management very quickly abut ptential prblems. LET`S GET STARTED! T make it simple I g frm having a team that is new t the Explratry Testing apprach. It is easier fr me t d s because that is the situatin that I have been facing every time I have wrked with this apprach. The first steps There are sme steps I think is very useful t take t get the whle thing rlling. Step 1: General intrductin In my rle as an Explratry Testing evangelist I am mst ften respnsible fr this part. The intrductin shuld be perfrmed by smene that knws what it s all abut. It is als very imprtant that this persn is able t bth inspire and mtivate an audience t get them t think in new terms and new ways f ding tests. If yu are nt that persn capable f ding this, ask smene that is, inside r utside yur cmpany. Learn frm smene that already knws. That is always a great apprach when yu are eager t learn smething new. It s better t start with a slid fundatin than t start with nly yur wn speculatins. The mst cmmn stries abut pitfalls and success arund this 2 Valuable feedback frm Michael Bltn. 3 Valuable feedback frm Michael Bltn. 4

have already been written. 4 Read them and talk t the peple that wrte them. That is an apprach that has becme my wn success stry. I ll stick t that ne. OK s this intrductin shuld bring ut the crnerstnes f Explratry Testing and it shuld be detailed enugh t shw the whle picture. Afterwards the participants shuld have a gd view f what Explratry Testing is, what the imprtant parts are and what we gain ut f it. Fr this intrductin I start by just inviting the test staff. I want t get their pinins and thughts abut it t start with. If yu can t deliver the message in that grup it will be extremely hard t take anther step. But dn t give up t sn. If yu dn t get them t feel inspired abut all this maybe yu need t change yur apprach n hw yu are delivering the message. Same thing here, maybe yu need t get help frm smene that is mre experienced in perfrming intrductins like this. Never be afraid f asking fr help! It nly shws that yu really want t d smething and that yu want t d it well. Yu just want t knw what the next step is t be taken when yu smetimes get a little lst. Step 2: Pilt set up When we have agreed n that the Explratry Testing apprach is smething that will d us gd and that actually is a missing piece f the puzzle we mve n t the next step. Let s try it ut! Is it really as gd as it seems t be? My favrite way f trying this ut is t arrange a pilt. It is the beauty f invlvement that is the strength f this kind f pilt. We are experiencing this tgether. We all feel respnsible and therefre we all want t put in ur effrt t d it as gd as pssible. There are 4 things that I think are the mst imprtant ingredients fr the pilt: T have a clear gal and a clear missin T practice n a real prject T engage real prject peple especially testers and develpers t start with T be clear n what kind f results we want t be able t present after the pilt is cmpleted S we need smething real t try n. Why it is s imprtant t me? Because I knw that by testing smething real makes ur results much mre interesting fr the peple we want t impress. Yu knw, the peple that matters. They get real results frm real prducts. We want t shw them the truth right frm the beginning. Step 3: The pilt starts Gather as many testers as yu can. Smetimes it s easy and smetimes it s hard but I have fund ut that smewhere there is always a tester with sme hurs left t put n the pilt. Lk fr the adventurus nes. When I am ut talking abut this at seminars and cnferences I always get the questin hw t get a pilt like this apprved by the management. My reactin t that is that I am sure yu knw yur wn management. Yu knw they will either see this as an interesting thing r they will just see it as a cst as it cncerns testing, the painful must in any prject. My recmmendatins t yu wh have a manager accrding t the latter statement DON T ASK FOR PERMISSION! JUST DO IT! I will repeat this frbidden recmmendatin nce mre later n. Shw them the successful results afterwards instead. It might sund strange but I knw that it s wrking. It s just a matter f hw practive yu and yur team members are. S make sure yu have the crrect team fr this. Start the actual pilt by selecting a cuple f pinpinted areas r functinality r whatever that it is yu want t fcus the tests n. Create several test missins (I am talking abut charters that I mentined 4 Examples f gd reading: Lessns Learned in Sftware Testing by C. Kaner, Bret Pettichrd and James Bach. Perfect Sftware: And Other Illusins abut Testing by Gerald M. Weinberg 5

in the SBTM sectin abve). In a pilt I recmmend yu t d everything light weight. Just write the charters ne by ne n pst-its. When yu have a desirable cllectin f charters put them n an ET dashbard as I prefer t call it. I use a whitebard fr this. It s like a SCRUM bard with divided sectins like Nt started, Onging and Cmpleted. When yu are cmpleted yu attach the test ntes, written n a piece f paper, t the current charter (pst-it) and put them under Cmpleted. The teams I wrk with find this way f wrking very easy and at the same time very efficient. At this pint we want t spend as little time as pssible n administratin. It desn t really need t be mre than this t it. If this light versin f SBTM des it fr yu please stick t it, dn t verd it. ET dashbard example: Area Nt started Onging Cmpleted Area 1 Area 2 Step 4: The pilt ends The duratin f the pilt really depends n hw much time yu have. I have perfrmed pilts like this with duratin between 1 day and 2 weeks. Yu will just have t adjust yur apprach accrding t the time yu have. A very imprtant thing is t gather the results. There are many different results t chse frm. Take fund bugs fr instance. When I select the areas fr the pilt I try t select areas we already cver with scripted test cases. At the end yu will be able t analyze if we fund mre bugs, different bugs r maybe even mre critical bugs when cmparing the results frm the scripted tests and with what we fund during the ET pilt. That analysis has never let me dwn. It shws the dynamics f Explratry Testing and is a very imprtant result t shw ur stakehlders later n. Anther cmparisn I ften include in my reprt is hw quick we get an verview by explring the prduct instead f fllwing scripted tests. I am talking abut frm preparing the tests until the executin is dne. Sme f the mst imprtant results frm the pilt are unfrtunately the hardest nes t reprt n. It all cmes dwn t the mst imprtant part f perfrming ET, the testers. Almst every time I see testers wh perfrm ET I clearly experience they are mre mtivated and they als think perfrming tests like this is mre fun cmpared with executing scripted tests step after step. Mtivatin and general satisfactin seem t be very hard t reprt n, despite the fact that these are essential parts t succeed in ur wrk. Why peple are having prblems with reprting n this is nly because they dn t knw much abut hw t d it. Clearly this is a subject we can learn mre abut. 5 T cme as clse as pssible in generating results n e.g. mtivatin r gut feeling I simply interview the testers. I summarize their thughts in the reprt t the stakehlders. 5 I recmmend yu t read Quality Sftware Management: Vl. 2: First-Order Measurement by Gerald M. Weinberg. 6

Step 5: Pilt retrspective After the pilt is cmpleted and all interesting results are cllected I call fr a retrspect with all persns that were invlved in the pilt. I use a whitebard divided int 3 discussin pints, Gd, Culd have dne better and Imprvements. Prbably the mst imprtant questin fr the retrspective is hw the testers felt by ding it, by practicing the art f explratin. I knw it takes mre than ne sht t get a feeling f what it s really abut but I am sure that they have sme kind f feeling at least and in this case that might be the mst imprtant feeling that we have right nw. Fr their testing jurney ahead the trust f feelings will becme ne f their mst imprtant qualities. It will help them t be able t divide e.g. ptential risks frm waste f tests. What I hear during the retrspective meeting is nted dwn and is extremely valuable input t my management presentatin. Step 6: Management presentatin OK, s nw we have a clear picture n hw t d it and what it des fr us. Nw we just need t help ur managers understand and share ur enthusiasm. And by managers I mean the peple that are required t get an fficial apprval n using the ET apprach as a part f ur cmpany test prcess. It is definitely a difficult task but it is als definitely dable. The first thing is t invite the management t a wrkshp n Explratry Testing and n testing in general. I always start these wrkshps with 2 questins t the participants: What is quality? and What is testing? Then we discuss their answers fr a shrt while befre we mve n t the next task, the testing exercises. I give them sme small applicatins with knwn bugs t test n. Fr the first exercise I divide them int tw grups. I give them sme infrmatin abut the applicatin and tell them that Grup 1 shuld use scripted test cases t test the applicatin and Grup 2 shuld nly explre the applicatin by using my previus infrmatin. Grup 1 starts by writing sme test cases that later n will be executed by ding exactly as they say. Grup 2 start explring the applicatin frm the first minute. I let them g n fr 45 minutes then we cmpare their results. I knw this is really nt a fair exercise but I want t get a clear difference abut the results. Of curse Grup 2 finds mre bugs quicker than Grup 1 that must create test cases and then stick t them. The purpse f this exercise is t get them t see the difference between cntext-driven testing cmpared t being bund t fllw predefined test steps that desn t change even if ur wn view n the applicatin changes. I perfrm a cuple f mre testing exercises and then we summarize their new experience, sftware testing. I knw all this sunds a little bit t easy when I am describing it but t tell the truth they find it real fun nce they have started. We usually get plenty f laughs during these wrkshps. After the exercises I start talking abut ur pilt. I give them ur success stry. I talk abut all psitive utcmes that we in the pilt team have experienced. I give them the results shwing that we really can t live withut it, Explratry Testing. The funny thing during these wrkshps is that I have never heard any manager asking the questin wh has apprved this pilt. We discuss the results and hw the ET apprach culd fit int ur current test prcess. I have never t this day had a wrkshp like this that has ended with a negative decisin. We have always had a GO t intrduce the ET apprach t the rest f the cmpany. Why? I think it all cmes dwn t the successful results frm the pilts cmbined with getting the pprtunity t really shw the peple that matters hw it wrks by letting them try it ut fr themselves. That als makes it harder fr them t let this apprach dwn, they dn t want t lie t themselves right? Suddenly they see clearly why it is needed and that there are gaps in ur prcess that ET will fix. We have shwn them that withut ET we lse reliability arund the infrmatin that the testing is suppsed t give them. We 7

have als shwn them that this is enjyable wrk, and that it builds mtivatin, inspiratin, efficiency and which all leads us t perfrm ur wrk much better in any way. Step 7: Cmpany presentatin After a decisin has been taken t bring in the Explratry Testing apprach it is nw time t let the rest f the rganizatin knw what this means. Hw yu d it depends n the size f yur rganizatin. Regardless f the cmpany size I wuld run a shrt versin abut the pilt and give them a glimpse arund what ET is all abut. It will really nt cause any painful prcess changes as Explratry Testing is just anther tl in the tlbx. Hwever there will be ther big changes slwly sneaking in as time ges by. I am thinking abut the cnstant increasing testing skills, we will see prblems fund that n ne ever have seen befre and I am certain that this apprach in the lng run is an imprtant part f delivering high quality cde with high custmer cnfidence. Cnclusin These steps describe my apprach n bringing in Explratry Testing t any cmpany. I see it as a gd apprach as I have succeeded by using it. Hw yu chse t d it is up t yu. It is all abut adjusting the steps t fit a specific cmpany r a specific situatin. There are n best practices in this dcument. See it just as guidelines r starting pints that culd lead yu t yur wn apprach. EXPLORATORY TESTING CAN ANYONE DO IT? Yes, basically anyne can d it. It s a matter f hw mtivated yu are. Withut mtivatin yu can t d it. At least yu can t d it well. But it s nt just abut mtivatin, it s als abut skill. Anyne can manage a cmpany, yu knw, but nt everyne wh des s is a gd manager. Develping testing skill is very imprtant. 6 Actually yu have already dne it. As a kid ne f yur strngest abilities was t explre the wrld. I guess it s just fr yu t bring that eager f explratin back! T have deep prduct and system knwledge are gd qualities t have as a tester, we all knw that. But, dn t frget that the eyes f a nvice tester ften see things that senir testers might miss because it s t simple. That s a rather cmmn behavir and I slve that by pairing bth categries tgether during several test sessins. I have seen a lt f interesting things cme ut f that. HOW TO MAINTAIN AND DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS The trickiest things abut skills are t maintain them and t be able t cntinuusly develp them. It is very much dependent n yur wn mtivatin t d s but smetime it is als dependent n getting apprval t spend time n it. It is harder t develp new skills in an rganizatin that nly see shrt term gals as develping skills is a part f a lng term missin. Unfrtunately tday the shrt term way f wrking seems t be mre cmmn than t apprve lng term investments aiming fr cntinuus imprvements. As I mentined abve it is essential fr testers perfrming Explratry Testing t cntinuusly develp their testing skills. That s what it s all abut. S when yu discuss intrductin f Explratry Testing, dn t frget t talk abut hw t handle ne f the mst imprtant parameters, skills. There are different ways f getting new skills r t maintain the nes yu already gt. My wn favrites are: T set up a test bk library at yur department (ther bks as well) T perfrm rund table discussins T perfrm lightning talks T take interesting curses 6 Thughtful wrds frm James Bach. 8

T get feedback n yur wrk T participate n test cnferences (interesting nes) T get yurself a mentr(s) T participate in test frums T cntinuusly lk fr new test racles (articles, web sites, bks, experienced peple, etc.) T be critical abut yur wn way f wrking and repeat the mantra hw can I d the thing I d right nw better when I d it next time? That will, if yu are mtivated, frce yu t find new ways f develping yur wn skills. T write articles and have experienced peple t review them. The gal desn t need t be t have them published. The nly gal might be just t get yur thughts n a paper t be able t see by reading it what areas that yu might need t imprve. If yu are having a hard time getting apprval fr ding things like this then yu have t take a decisin. Shuld yu d this fr yurself r fr bringing in mre skills t yur cmpany? If yu see this as value fr yur wn experience then I wuld say DO IT WITHOUT ASKING FOR PERMISSION! The beautiful thing abut that is that bth yu and yur cmpany will be able t take advantage f the value it will generate. They just dn t always see it. Give them the results f it afterwards and I can guarantee that an apprval is easier t get the next time. Yu will eventually be seen as a practive frce in the cmpany. SUMMARY I am ttally cnvinced that we need a mix between Explratry Testing and scripted testing t be able t fulfill ur testing missin. We need t include bth the dynamic cntext-driven apprach and the aimed and fcused test case executin t pin dwn specific and detailed functinality. We can t find the mst critical prblems withut perfrming explratry tests and we dn t want t miss thse detailed, smetimes hidden, functins that scripted test cases can make us aware f. Explratry Testing is nt a test phase. It s a test apprach that shuld be perfrmed in parallel with all test activities in all test phases. There are als ther things I find imprtant if yu want t reach the full ptential f yur team and which als is a part f the mindset f Explratry Testing: Be better at encuraging peple t wrk n their skills, create an envirnment t make that pssible. See the minds f the testers as the mst imprtant tls fr testing. Cntinuusly search fr new ways f thinking. Dn t disrespect hw peple feel. Mst ften gut feelings are far mre reliable than any dcumentatin. Challenge statements by asking relevant questins. Dare t say NO if that is yur true pinin but if yu d, dn t frget t recmmend what we culd d instead. Spend mre time n searching fr alternatives instead f just decide what is right r wrng. And hey! Dn t frget that this is just a dcument. That s the way it shuld be treated. Things are cnstantly changing and we can t d anything abut it.
