1 ANNALES HISTORICO-NATURALES MUSEI NATIONALIS HUNGARICI Tomus The Scientific Results of the Hungarian Soil Zoological Expedition to the Brazzaville-Congo 45. Pygostenini and Euaesthetinae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) by D. H. KISTNER & H. R. JACOBSON, Chico, California* The purpose of this paper is to report the species of Pygostenini and Euaesthetinae collected in the Congo (Brazzaville) by the Hungarian Soil Zoological Expedition. Also included are descriptions of 2 new species, genus Typhloponemys REY. All of the species reported here belong to groups which have been revised recently. The Pygostenini were revised by KISTNER, (1958); the genus Stenaesthetus by KISTNER (1962a), TURELLUS by KISTNER (1961 and 1962a), Edaphus by KISTNER (1962b), Octavius of Africa by KISTNER (1960), and Schatzmayrina by KISTNER (1961). No further bibliographic: citation will be given if the species cited are included in these revisions. Measurements are herein given in mm and are taken as described by KISTNER (1958). We wish to thank Dr. KASZAB, General Director of the Hungarian Natural Histoiy Museum (NHM), for the privilege of studying these interesting specimens. Holotypes of new species and unique specimens are all deposited in the above museum. If more than 1 specimen was available for study, duplicates have been placed in the collection of the senior author. We thank WILLIAM BLACKBURN, DANIELA DAVISON, JAN FISCHER, DAVID HARWOOD, ELAINE MCNICHOLS, JANIS SHELHORN, and ANGELA VENDSEL, all Shinner Assistants, Chico State College, for help on this study. (Fig. 1, 2) The absence of the 2 middle macrochaetaxy of abdominal tergite I I I, indicates a close relationship to T. rufotestaceus (fauveli group). Typhloponemys endroedyi sp. n. (Fig. 3, 4) Distinguished from all other species, including T. leleupi K I S T N E R (megalophthalmus group) to which i t is most closely related, by the shape of the spermatheea. Colour yellowish brown, head slightly darker. Dorsal surface of head, prono tum, and elytra smooth and shiny. Macrochaetotaxy of abdominal tergites I I - V I I I : 2, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 0.
