A L L E V I A T E T H E L O A D It will bend, creak, buckle and show signs of being under stress. Eventually it will collapse. To prevent the collapse you have two choices, either alleviate the load or reinforce the bridge. 4 C O S T O F W O R K P L A C E S T R E S S According to the 2015/2016 ONS Labour Force Survey, stress accounted for: 11.7 M I L L I O N lost working days due to work-related stress, depression, and anxiety. 37% of all workrelated ill health cases. 45% of all working days lost due to ill health. According to the CIPD Annual Survey Report (Absence Management 2016): 522 median cost of absence per employee in UK. Workers take an average 6.3 d a y s o f f sick per year. So for an organisation with 10,000 employees, this is a cost of 32,886,000 per annum.

6 C O S T O F W O R K P L A C E S T R E S S : C A S E S T U D Y ANONYMISED COMPANY Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF) Anything over 1 even per million hours was to result in an investigation or dismissal of the person in charge Over the last 3 years they had an LTIF of only 0.62 for Safety However, when it came to Mental Health the LTIF was a massive 25.4 (41 times the safety figure) Direct costs = 370, 000 Indirect costs = 925, people had also left the business due to LTIF issues directly attributable to stress and mental health Total loss = 2,000,000
