G o L O V A T C H, M o s c o w Abstract Six new lndochinese species o f the millipede family Glomeridae are described: Peplomeris magna sp. n., Hyperglomeris maxima sp. n. and H. conspicua sp. n. from N o r t h V i e t n a m. Hyleoglomeris montana sp. n., H. albicollis sp. n. and H. cremea sp. n. f r o m N o r t h T h a i l a n d. Keys to all the four so far k n o w n species o f the genus Hyperglomeris S I L V. ( = Dinoglomeris S I L V., syn. n.k as well as to the nine lndochinese species o f Hyleoglomeris V E R H. are provided. W i t h 25 figures. Present k n o w l e d g e o f the G l o m e r i d a e o f I n d o c h i n a is based o n b u t a few p a p e r s ( V E R H O E F F 1915, 1920; S I L V E S T R I 1917; A T T E M S 1938, 1953), w i t h a t o t a l o f 12 species f r o m 6 genera o r subgenera r e c o g n i z e d. T h e r e f o r e t h e m o r e agreeable it was f o r m e t o have b e e n able r e c e n t l y t o a c c u m u l a t e f o r s t u d y several f r e s h c o l l e c t i n g s o f t h i s g r o u p f r o m N o r t h V i e t n a m a n d N o r t h T h a i l a n d w h i c h p r o v e d t o c o m p r i s e six i d e n t i f i a b l e species, a l l n e w t o science. D i a g n o s i s Well distinguishable f r o m the only hitherto k n o w n species o f the genus, P. demangei (SILVESTRI, 1917) f r o m H a n o i, V i e t n a m, by a different colour pattern, longer a n t e n n á i j o i n t 6, larger hyposchism o f chest shield, several details o f structure i n male leg-pairs 17 to 19. D e s c r i p t i o n Length ca. 16 m m, w i d t h ca. 9.0 m m. C o l o u r yellowish, w i t h light b r o w n spots: a bit darker, subtriangular paramedian and a somewhat paler, transverse, marble lateral one f r o m each side o f terga 3 to 10 (Fig. 1). Chest shield w i t h a similar pattern, t h o u g h the lateral marble spots extending dorsad at anterior h a l f o f the tergum to contact the paramedian pair. C o l l u m w i t h o u t distinct spots, marble, a bit denser along anterior margin. Pygidium also w i t h o u t distinct spots, light marble. A n t e n n á i j o i n t s 3 t o 7 light brown, legs whitish. Antennae w i t h a l o n g and a little curved dorsad slender j o i n t 6, apically w i t h numerous small cones (Fig. 2). Black convex ocelli f r o m each side. Surface smooth, shining. C o l l u m w i t h 2 usual transverse striae. Chest shield w i t h hyposchism reaching, but not exceeding caudal tergal margin, w i t h 8 (left side) or 9 (right side) very fine striae o f w h i c h 1st and 2nd (counting f r o m anterior tergal margin) cross dorsum, while 2 or 3 subsequently reaching the dorsum but becoming interrupted and vague. Pygidium w i t h a pair o f small, r o u n d, paramedian, marginal projections divided by a gentle concavity. 0". Leg-pair 17 (Fig. 3) w i t h very high outer coxal lobes, telopodite 4-jointed. Leg-pair 18 ( F i g. 4) w i t h a r o u n d syncoxite notch, telopodite 4-jointed. Pair 19 (telopods) ( F i g. 5) greatly enlarged; syncoxite median lingual lamina high, trapeziform, emarginated; syncoxite lateral horns densely setose, only a little higher than lamina, slightly clavate; prefemur w i t h a short, finger-shaped, half-hidden, inner apical process; femur w i t h a large projecting inner lobe f r o m posterior side; tibia w i t h a small p a p i l l ä r r o u n d finger distally f r o m caudal side; tarsus relatively small, acute, quickly tapering t o w a r d end.
2 Hyperglomeris maxima sp.n. (Figs 6 10) Locality : Vietnam, Prov. Hoa binh, Mai tiao distr., Von mai, secondary tropical forest, 4 ^ (including holotype), 1 juv., 12 XII1981, leg. D. A. Krivolutsky et L. B. Rybalov. Material examined: 5 specimens. Holotype and 2 paratypes have been deposited in the Zoological Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Leningrad; one male paratype (dissected) will be placed in the Zoological Museum of the Moscow State University, Moscow; one male paratype has been sent to the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. Description Body mm long and mm wide, 14 mm long and 7.0 mm wide in holotype. Colour yellowish-brown, with dark marble brown spots and markings from each side of a thin irregular axial stripe which sometimes (especially in several mid-body terga) coalescesing into large (sub)triangular median spots (Fig. 6). Pygidium with a dim darker central spot. Collum marble light brown, without distinct spots. Head and antennae brown, legs greyish-yellow. Antennae like in P. magna sp. n., but apically with 4 larger cones. Black convex ocelli 7 +1 from each side. Surface smooth, shining. Collum quite usual, with 2 transverse striae. Chest shield with hyposchism reaching, but not exceeding hind tergal margin, with about a dozen of fine striae of which only 2nd entirely crosses dorsum, whereas some 6 or 7 of subsequent ones, though reaching the dorsum, do so becoming interrupted, vague. Pygidium with a pair of very small round paramedian projections at caudal margin divided by a very gentle concavity. Leg-pair 17 (Fig. 7) with quite low outer coxal lobes, telopodite 4-jointed. Pair 18 (Fig. 8) with an extremely wide and shallow syncoxite notch, telopodite 4-jointed. Pair 19 (telopods) (Figs 9-10) Figs 1-5. 4 greatly enlarged; syncoxite median lingual lamina high, trapeziform, gently emarginated; syncoxite lateral horns setose, only a little higher than lobe, apically w i t h a tiny triangular o u t g r o w t h ; prefemur w i t h a short inner apical finger surmounted by a rudimentary seta; femur w i t h a large inner poster i o r lobe w i t h a small knob-like finger anteriorly at base, also surmounted by a rudimentary seta; tibia w i t h a good apical inner posterior swelling produced anteriad i n the f o r m o f a shelf; tarsus considerably curved, acute, gently tapering toward end. D e s c r i p t i o n Males up to 7 m m long and 3.0 m m wide (holotype), females up to 8 m m long and 3.5 m m wide. Colour yellow, w i t h dark brown to b r o w n transverse spots (Fig. 11) sometimes absent on chest shield. Pygidium w i t h o u t spots. Head and c o l l u m sometimes light b r o w n, legs pale, distal halves o f tarsi sometimes b r o w n. Antennae w i t h somewhat shorter j o i n t 6 which is ca. 2.0 times longer than wide, apically w i t h 4 larger cones. Black convex ocelli from each side. Surface smooth, shining. C o l l u m w i t h usual 2 transverse striae. Chest shield w i t h a smaller hyposchism not reaching caudal tergal margin, from each side w i t h a deep sulcus (w) extending antero-dorsad f r o m the anteriormost part o f schism (Fig. 11), w i t h o u t further striae. P y g i d i u m with a pair o f very small marginal r o u n d paramedian projections divided by a very poor and gentle concavity i n males, regularly round-margined i n females. 0*. Leg-pair 17 (Fig. 12) w i t h moderately high outer coxal lobes, telopodite 4-jointed. Pair 18 (Fig. 13) w i t h a broadly r o u n d syncoxite notch, telopodite 4-jointed. Pair 19 (telopods) (Fig. 14) greatly enlarged; syncoxite median lingual lamina almost regularly semi-circular, rather h i g h ; syncoxite lateral horns a little higher than lamina, setose, subtriangular at the apex, disto-laterally with a good spine; prefemur w i t h a short, stout, setiferous disto-mesal process (finger); femur w i t h very long and slender posterior finger-shaped inner process w i t h setiferous anterior k n o b at base; tibia w i t h a very conspicuous, serrate, l o n g (ca. 2/3 as long as tarsus), posterior apical process, w i t h a good membraneous inner hook, and a small subterminal setiferous k n o b anteriorly; tarsus considerably curved, acute, gently tapering t o w a r d end. R e m a r k s Hyperglomeris dirupta E v e r since S I L V E S T R I ' S ( ) e r e c t i o n o f t w o m o n o t y p i c a l genera, a n d Dinoglomeris, t o c o m p r i s e the n e w species H. lamellosa SILV. and D. S I L V. f r o m N o r t h V i e t n a m, b o t h the genera have b e e n c o n s i d e r e d g o o d ( M A U R I È S , HOFFMAN ). H o w e v e r, the o n l y d i s t i g u i s h i n g c h a r a c t e r, as SILVESTRI ( ) noted by h i m s e l f, was the presence o r absence at base o f the t e l o p o d i n n e r f e m o r a l process o f a s m a l l a n t e r i o r finger t o s u p p o r t a seta: Dinoglomeris w i t h such finger, Hyperglomeris without it. T h i s d i s t i n c t i o n, suspicious e n o u g h i n itself, i n the l i g h t o f t h e n e w discoveries s h o u l d be a b a n d o n e s n o w a l t o g e t h e r, f o r i n H. maxima l y r e m i n d s the p o o r k n o b i n H. conspicua glomeris sp. n. the finger is a l r e a d y q u i t e s m a l l a n d r e a d i sp. n. T o f o r m a l i z e t h e issue, I c o n s i d e r S I L V. a subjective senior s y n o n y m o f Dinoglomeris Hyper- S I L V., a l l the f o u r so far k n o w n species o f this genus b e i n g easily d i s t i n g u i s h a b l e b y the k e y b e l o w. Perhaps i t is neccessary t o r e m i n d that Hyperglomeris m o s t closely r e l a t e d t o the l a r g e genus Hyleoglomeris i n its present b r o a d e r concept is also o f O r i e n t a l o r i g i n. H o w e v e r, the l a t t e r possesses t h e p o s t e r i o r t e l o p o d f e m o r a l process m u c h l a r g e r a n d w i t h an a p i c a l m e m b r a n e o u s sack, a n d t h e t i b i a o f the t e l o p o d s w i t h o u t g o o d p o s t e r i o r processes o r swellings.

Hyleoglomeris montana sp.n. (Figs 16-19) Locality : Thailand. Prov. Chieng Mai, Doi Inthanon, summit, 2500 m, 2 dv (including holotype), 3 $9, 1 juv. 7X 1981, leg. Zool. Museum Kobenhavn. Material examined: 6 specimens. Holotype, 1 female and the juvenile paratypes are deposited in the Universitets Zoologisk Museum, Kobenhavn ; 1 female paratype even is in the Hungarian Natural History Mseum Budapest, and Coll. Golovatch, Moscow. Description Males 7.0 mm long and ca. 4.0 mm wide (holotype), females mm long and mm wide. Colour black-brown, with yellow-whitish thin axial stripe, pairs of large marble brown lateral spots, sometimes (in adult paratypes) with background irregularly interrupted by small light markings (Fig. 16). Collum dark brown, with a large lighter marble central spot. Pygidium with a caudal widening of the light axial stripe. Head and antennae brown, latter ones especially dark distally. Legs whitish. Antennae usual, apically with 4 larger cones, joint 6 ca. 2.0 times longer than wide. Black convex ocelli from each side. Surface smooth, shining. Collum with 2 usual transverse striae. Chest shield with a large hyposchism reaching, but not protruding beyond hind tergal margin, with fine striae of which up to 7 lying above schism and only four entirely crossing dorsum. Pygidium delicately sinuate mediocaudally in males, regularly margined in females. d*. Leg-pair 17 (Fig. 17) with very high outer coxal lobes, telopodite 4-jointed. Leg-pair 18 (Fig. 18) with an ogive syncoxite notch, telopodite 4-jointed. Telopods greatly enlarged (Fig. 19); syncoxite median lingual lamina subtrapeziform, with rounded ventral angles; syncoxite lateral horns very high, slender, apically with a long hyaline bifid seta each, densely setose; prefemur with a long inner apical finger crowned by a long flagelloid ; femur anteriorly with a similar apical inner digitoid process, but surmounted by a shorter flagelloid, posteriorly with a very large lobe apically membraneous and slightly curved; tibia anteriorly with a long distal inner seta, posteriorly with a large membraneous hook-like inner process; tarsus quite slightly curved, acute, very gently tapering toward end.
7 Hyleoglomeris albicollis sp.n. (Figs 15, 20-22) Locality : Thailand, Prov. Chieng Mai. Doi Inthanon N. P., Mae Chaem, 1700 m, road, 1 <f, 15 X 1981, leg. Zool. Museum Kobenhavn. Material examined: 1 specimen. Holotype is deposited in the Universitets Zoologisk Museum. Kobenhavn. Description Body 11 mm long and 5.0 mm wide. Colour black, with yellowish spots: a small median at hind margin and a pair of larger lateral marble ones on each tergum but collum and pygidium. Chest shield with yellowish postero-lateral corners, collum entirely yellow, without darker pigment, pygidium with a large median subtriangular spot at hind margin. Head and antennae dark brown, legs whitish, only distal halves of tarsi a bit brownish (Fig. 15). Antenna! joint 6 long, ca. 2.2 times longer than wide. Black convex ocelli 6 +1 from each side. Surface smooth, shining. Collum with 2 usual transverse striae. Chest shield with a large hyposchism reaching, but not projecting beyond hind tergal margin, with 8 fine striae of which (counting from anterior tergal margin) 1st. 4th and 7th entirely crossing dorsum. Pygidium regularly margined, without peculiarities. Leg-pair 19 (telopods) (Fig. 22) very massive; median lingual lamina o f syncoxite subtrapeziform, emarginated. w i t h rounded ventro-lateral cor ners; syncoxite lateral horns very high, slender, setose, apically w i t h a very short setoid i n front o f a tiny r o u n d l o b e ; prefemur w i t h a very long inner apical finger crowned w i t h a long flagelloid; femur w i t h a similar smaller antero-mesal finger also crowned by a long flagelloid, posteriorly w i t h a large inner lobe surmounted by a membraneous sack curved f o r w a r d ; tibia w i t h a long antero-mesal seta, posteriorly w i t h an indistinct membraneous process; tarsus considerably curved, gently tapering toward end. H o l o t y p e, together with 1 male and 4 female p a r a t y p e s are deposited i n the Universitets Zoologisk M u s e u m, K o b e n h a v n ; 1 female paratype is i n the Hungarian N a t u r a l History M u s e u m. Budapest; 1 male paratype is retained i n C o l l. Golovatch, M o s c o w. D e s c r i p t i o n B o d y 8-12 m m long and m m wide i n males (10 and 4.2 m m i n holotype) m m long and m m i n females. C o l o u r y e l l o w i s h - b r o w n ; c o l l u m, chest shield and almost all pygidium (except for the antero-lateral corners) yellowish, other terga almost all dar ker, brownish, w i t h a more o r less wide axial light stripe. Head and antennae yellowish-brown t o b r o w n, legs light yellowish-brown. Antenna! j o i n t 6 ca. 2.0 times as l o n g as wide. B l a c k - b r o w n convex ocelli from each side. Surface smooth, shining. C o l l u m w i t h 2 usual transverse striae. Chest shield w i t h a rather large hyposchism almost reaching h i n d tergal margin, w i t h 9-11 fine striae o f which 6 crossing the dorsum (always 1st and 2nd, but never 3rd). M a l e pygidium very slightly sinuate medio-caudally, w i t h o u t modifications i n females. d*. Leg-pair 17 (Fig. 23) w i t h rather high outer coxal lobes, telopodite 4-jointed. Pair 18 ( F i g. 24) w i t h syncoxite notch ogive, telopodite 4-jointed. Telopods (Fig. 25) greatly enlarged; syncoxite medial lamina prominent, subovoid ; syncoxite lateral h o r n high, slender, setose, apically w i t h a good setoid ; prefemur w i t h usual l o n g flagelliferous finger ; femur w i t h a similar, but stout antero-mesal finger crowned by a flagelloid and posteriorly w i t h a big lobe apically bearing a membraneous sack curved f o r w a r d ; tibia w i t h a l o n g antero-apical inner seta, posteriorly w i t h an indistinct apical inner membraneous process; tarsus rather gently curved, very moderately tapering t o w a r d end. R e m a r k s Six species o f Hyleoglomeris have h i t h e r t o b e e n k n o w n f r o m I n d o c h i n a : H. tricmgulifera A T T., H. robusta A T T., H. maior S I L V. a n d H. siamensis S I L V. T h e l a t t e r is t h e o n l y o n e k n o w n f r o m c o n t i n e n t a l T h a i l a n d. T h e d i s c o v e r y o f the t h r e e n e w Hyleoglomeris A T T., H. pulchra A T T., H. electa i n N o r t h T h a i l a n d n o t o n l y enriches t h e l o c a l f a u n a, b u t also p r o v i d e s t h e o p p o r t u n i t y t o a r r a n g e a l l the l n d o c h i n e s e species o f t h i s g e n u s i n a t e n t a t i v e k e y. A s several o f these f o r m s h a v e b e e n described b u t b y females, t h e k e y b e l o w c h i e f l y deals w i t h c o l o u r p a t t e r n s. I t s h o u l d be r e m e m b e r e d, h o w e v e r, t h a t the c o l o u r p a t t e r n s described a b o v e a n d h e r e i n a f t e r d i s r e g a r d t h e u s u a l l y l i g h t l a t e r a l a n d posterior tergal margins.
