The research activity has been focussed to the theoretical study of the structure of strongly correlated hadronic systems with confined elementary constituents, in particular hadrons in the nonperturbative regime of QCD. Emphasis has been addressed to the study of the response of hadronic systems to electromagnetic probes at different energy scales and in kinematical conditions where it is possible a clear interpretation in terms of structure properties of the systems. The research activity has been characterized by the systematic participation to international working groups at international laboratories (JLab, MAMI, TUNL, CERN) and the continuous collaboration with experimental colleagues. Several results have been also important in promoting new experiments, as certified by the collaboration to several experimental proposals at JLab and MAMI. In this context, two main lines of research have been developed: 1. study of the nucleon electroweak structure (polarizabilities, electromagnetic and axial charge distributions, magnetic moments) and its resonances using dispersion relation techniques, sum rules and different hadronic models (effective field theories and quark models); 2. study
9 of the partonic and spin structure of hadron systems through the modeling of transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions, accessible in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, generalized parton distributions, measurable, for example, in deeply virtual Compton scattering and Wigner distributions. The main results of these research activities have been collected in four invited review papers, published in Physics Report, Rivista del Nuovo Cimento, Journal of Physics G (Focus Issue on Enhancing the interaction between nuclear experiment and theory through information and statistics ) and European Physical Journal A (topical collection on The 3-D Structure of the Nucleon ). The candidate is also authors of computational codes which have been used by the most relevant experiments at JLab and MAMI for the extraction of the nucleon polarizabilities from real and virtual Compton scattering at low energies using dispersion-relation techniques.
