Kazuko Sugawara-Tanabe Based on the model of a particle coupled to a triaxially deformed rotor, the experimental excitation energy relative to a reference E* ai (I+1) and the ratio between interband and intraband electromagnetic transitions are well reproduced for 167 Ta assuming =19. The same parameter set in angular momentum dependent moments of inertia is applied to both the positive and negative parity TSD band levels in 167 Lu also in good agreement with the experimental data. : Triaxial strongly deformed band, A=167 isobar, Particle-rotor model. Starting from the particle-rotor model with triaxially deformed rigid-body moments of inertia, we have obtained an algebraic solution both for the energy levels and the electromagnetic transitions [1,] by introducing two kinds of bosons for the total angular momentum I and the single-particle angular momentum j. Our model takes into account the invariance of the nuclear states under Bohr symmetry group [3] which reduces the diagonalization space to 1/4 of the full space. The precession of the core an- gular momentum R=I j correlates with that of j, and so such an interplay between two tops with R and j is called the top-on-top mechanism. It has been proved that the hydrodynamical moments of inertia cannot explain the TSD bands even when its sign is changed. We have found that the detailed behavior of energy levels represented by the excitation energy relative to a reference, E* ai (I+1) with a= MeV is consistently well reproduced by adopting the angular-momentum dependent moments of inertia (AMDMI) for the rigid moments of inertia [], as well as the electromagnetic transition rates for the triaxial strongly deformed (TSD) bands in odd-a Lu isotopes [4-8] at=17. The AMDMI simulates the decrease of pairing effect by a gradual increase of the core moments of inertia as functions of I. The purpose of the present paper is to ap- *
ply the AMDMI method to 167 Ta and 167 Lu with one set of parameters to explain the energy levels and the values of B (E)out/B (E)in observed by Hartley et al [9] recently. In Sec. II, we briefly review our algebraic formalism [1]. In Sec. III, the theoretical results including AM- DMI are compared with experimental energy levels relative to a reference both for 167 Ta and 167 Lu. The ratio between in band and out of band transitions are also compared with the experimental data. In addition, the selection rules derived from the approximate algebraic expressions of the matrix elements for the B (E) and B (M1) are extended to the case of even nucleus, which tells why the TSD bands are not observed in even nuclei. In Sec. IV, the paper is concluded. The particle-rotor Hamiltonian is given by H = k=x,y,z Σ Ak(Ik jk) + V j(j+1) [cos(3jz j ) 3sin(jx jy)], (1) where Ak=1/(Jk)(k=1,,3 or x,y,z). We adopt the rigid-body model in Lund convention, Jk= 1+( 5 J0 16π) 1/ 1 5 4π 1/ cos + 3 k, () where (,) are the deformation parameters describing ellipsoidal shape of the rotor. The maximum moment of inertia is about x-axis, and the sign of in Eq. (1) is chosen so that the oscillator strength is the largest in the x- directioninconsistentwiththelargestjx. We must pay special attention to the important symmetry properties of the nuclear Hamiltonian and the nuclear state, i.e., D symmetry group and Bohr symmetry group [3,10] (D-invariance). Now we consider the case where x-axis is chosen as a quantization axis, and then a complete set of the D-invariant basisisgivenby I +1 [DMK(i) I j 16π +( 1) I j DM K(i) I j ]; K =even, >0, (3) where K and denote eigenvalues of Ix and jx, respectively. The wave function j stands for spherical basis for the single-particle state, and DMK(i) I WignerD -function. The magnitude R of the rotor angular momentum R=I+( j) isre- stricted to R = I j, I j +1,..., I+j 1, or I+j, so that an integer n defined by R=I j+n ranges as n=0,1,,..., j 1,or j. (4) Since Rx runs from R to R, and Rx=Ix jx=k =even, an integer nαdefined by the relation Rx= R nαranges as nα=0,,4,..., R for R =even, nα=1,3,5,..., R 1forR =odd. (5) Thus, a physical state is described by a set of non-negative integers (nα,n). As shown by the present authors 39 years ago [11], the higher order terms in the Holstein- Primakoff (HP) boson expansion should be included to reproduce the rotational spectra of the triaxially deformed rotor of an even nucleus. This is also the case for the odd-a nucleus in association with the recovery of the D-invariance [1,]. We choose diagonal forms for the components Ix and jx in the HP boson representation as follows: I+=I =Iy+iIz= a I na, Ix=I na with na=a a; (6)
Sugawara-TanabeTSD bands in 167 Ta and 167 Lu by top on top model analysis j+=j =jy+ijz= j nbb, jx=j nb with nb=b b. (7) Applying these HP representations to the Ham- iltonian (1), we expand I na and j nb into series in na/(i )andnb/(j), and retain up to the next to leading order. We obtain HB=H0+H+H4, (8) where H0 denotes a constant which collects all the terms independent of boson operators, H the bilinear forms of boson operators, and H4 the fourth order terms. Diagonalization of H is attained by the boson Bogoliubov transforma- tion connecting boson operators (a,b,a,b ) to quasiboson operators (α,,α, ). Thus, the particle-rotor Hamiltonian is approximately expressed in terms of two kinds of quantum numbers, nα and n, which are eigenvalues of number operators of new quasibosons. When there is no single-particle potential, i.e., V=0 in Eq. (1), the expectation value of HB is reduced to a simple expression of the rotational energy with two quantum numbers, Erot (I,nα,n)=Ax R (R+1) p+q nα + R pq+ pq p+q nα+1, (9) where p=ay Ax, q=az Ax and R=I j+n.since,in the symmetric limit of Ay=Az, the formula (9) goes to well-known expression Erot(I,nα,n)=AzR (R+1) (Az Ax)(R nα), the eigenvalue R can be regarded as an effective magnitude of the rotor angular momentum, and R nα as its x- component Rx. It turns out that these nα and n are the same integers nα and n as defined in Eqs. (4) and (5). This allows us to interpret the quantum number nα as the precession of R (so -called wobbling in the text book of Bohr and Mottelson (BM) [10] because of Rx=R nα, and the quantum number n is interpreted as the precession of j about the intrinsic x-axis be- cause of Eq. (7). Due to the mixing of bosons a and b, the physical contents of nα and n change, but they keep the same eigenvalues as in the symmetric limit whole through the adiabatic change of interaction parameter V and deformation parameters (,). Thus, the rotational bands can be classified in terms of a pair of quantum numbers (nα, n) which is restricted by the D-invariance as in Eqs. (4) and (5). Here we comment that Eq. (9) is also useful for the rough estimation of j and pq []. Similarly, we can estimate the approximate transition rates by using Eqs. (6) and (7). We need the transformation coefficients between two boson Fock spaces, i.e., the one is generated on the quasivacuum 0α for quasibosons (α,) and the other on the vacuum 0a for HP bosons (a, b). Defining these overlaps is an extension of the coefficient Gkl [11-13] to the case with two kinds of boson. Such a set of the coefficients is calculated by applying the extended form of the generalized Wick theorem [14]. The eigenstates of HB in Eq. (8) are expressed in terms of quasiboson numbers nα and n together with I and j, 1 nαn,ij= nα! n! (α ) nα ( ) n 0α. (10) Then, we consider the overlap between nanb,ij and nαn,ij, Gna,nb;nα,n a0 a na b nb (α ) nα ( ) n 0α (na!nb!nα!n!) 1/ a0 0α na = (na!nb!nα!n!) 1/a0 a b nb (O ) (α ) nα ( ) n 0α (11) with(o )1/a0 0α. In this expression na(=i K ) and nb(=j ) stand for the eigenvalues of na and nb, respectively. We notice that Gna,nb;nα,n is non-vanishing only when an integral value of Δnna+nb nα n is even. For simplicity, we employ an asymptotic estimation by assuming that I is large enough and the difference in the I - dependence of Gna,nb;nα,n between the initial and
the final states is negligible. In order to investigate how the Coriolis coupling affects the wave function, we derive an explicit expression of Gna,nb;nα,n for the case of V =0 from the algebraic solution leading to the energy expression Eq. (9). Then, the Bogoliubov transformation connecting HP boson operators (a,b,a,b ) to quasiboson operators (α,,α, ) expressed in the form of Eq. (C1) in Ref. [1] is given by α a = α KM MK b, (1) a b where the submatrices are K I = I j 1/ + I j j 1/ 0 I j I, 1/ M = I j I 1/ I j + j 1/, (13) with I j j 1/ ±={1 sgn(q p)} 1 p+q pq ±1 1/. (14) Thus, we obtain, for example, Δn=0 diagonal elements of G G0000= I j I 1/ 1 1/, + G1010= I j 1 I 3/, + G00= I j I 3/ 1 5/1 +. (15) The factors (I j)/i and j/i arise from the effect of the Coriolis terms and the recoil terms, which are not included in the case of BM. We remark that, only if we put j=0, Gnanbnαn with the digits nb=n=0 reduces to Gnanα [11-13],which is comparable with the case of wobbling in BM. Needless to say that M1 transition is beyond the scope of the BM formalism, which does not include a valence nucleon coupled to the core. An approximation collecting only a few terms of Gna,nb;nα,n in the lowest order is useful to derive selection rules, and to estimate the order of magnitude of the transition matrix elements. The approximate reduced EandM1 transitions are summarized in Tables I to V in Ref. []. Together with the energy scheme, we show the schematic figures of B (E) and B (M1) in Figs. 1 to in Ref. []. Diagonalization of H in Eq. (1) is carried out on the complete set of D-invariant bases with the same form as given by Eq. (3), but K and denote the eigenvalues of Iz and jz, respectively. The E andm1 transition operators are given by M (E,)= 5 16π e[q0d0 +Q(D +D )], M (M1,)= 3 4π N Σ =0, ±1 [(g gr)j +(gs g)s+gri]d 1, (16) where N=eh/(Mc), g is the orbital g-factor, gs the spin g-factor, gr the effective g-factor for the rotational motion. The components of the intrinsic quadrupole moments, i. e., Q0 and Q are related with the deformation parameter through the relation, Q = tan, (17) Q0 which is consistent with the definition of J in Eq. () and H in Eq. (1). Generally, as seen in the experimental data for TSD bands [4-9], the excitation energy relative to a reference decreases with increasing I, and the dynamical moment of inertia increases with increasing angular frequency. These experimental results indicate there still remains the Coriolis antipairing (CAP) effect in the rotating core. As an attempt to reproduce the ex-
Sugawara-TanabeTSD bands in 167 Ta and 167 Lu by top on top model analysis perimental energy curves, we simulate the effect of decreasing pairing on the moments of inertia in Eq. () simply by the replacement, I afac J0J0 I+bfac. (18) We name this formula as an angularmomentum dependent moments of inertia (AM- DMI), and adopt afac=4.0, bfac=7.8 and J0= In order to analyse not only energy levels but also B (E)out/B (E)in in 167 Ta, we must choose =19instead of 17, subsequently both afac and bfac are larger compared with our last paper []. The other parameters are V =.3MeV, =0.38 in Eq. (1) and πi13/ orbital is assumed for the positive parity bands. Adopting these parameters, we carried out exact diagonalization of the total Hamiltonian on the D- invariant basis to obtain the energy levels for a given I. The precession quantum numbers can be assigned without ambiguity to the theoretical TSD bands, i.e. (n α=0,n=0) for TSD1 band and (1,0) for TSD band [1,]. We compare theoretical energy levels of E * ai (I+1)(a=0.0075MeV) with experimental ones for 167 Ta in Fig. 1, and for 167 Lu in Fig.. In these figures, theoretical values are shown as filled squares connected by solid lines, while experimental values as open triangles connected by dashed lines. Only the band-head energy of (0,0) band is adjusted to the experimental bandhead energy of TSD1 in Figs.1 and. Quite good fit to the experimental data are obtained over both nuclei. We show B (E)out/B (E)in in comparison with experimental data of 167 Ta [9] in Table 1. We add also theoretical values of B (M1)out/B (E )in in the third column of the same table. Quite good fit to the experimental values is obtained a for B (E)out/B (E)in. As given by Eqs. (59a) and (59b) of Ref. [1], B (E)out/B (E)in and B (M1)out/B (E)in from TSD level become in the lowest order approximation, B (E)out B (E)in B (E; I,10I 1,00) = B (E; I,10I,10) 6 I tan (+ π 6 ) G0000 G1010, (19) B (M1)out B (E)in B (M1;I,10I 1,00) = B (E;I,10I,10) 16j 5I Ngeff eq0( 3 tan ) G0000 G1010, (0) where geff=g gr+(gs g)/(j). As seen in Eq. (19), B (E)out/B (E)in sensitively depends on through tan ( +π/6), which makes us to choose =19instead of 17contrary to our previous paper []. The experimental data [9] also suggests ~0. As seen in Table 1 and also in Fig. 8 in Ref. [1], theoretical values show a gradual decrease of B (E)out/B (E)in and B (M1)out/B (E)in with increasing I. Such a gradual change in both branching ratios are caused by a factor of
I B (E)out/B (E)in B (M1)out/B (E)in theory exp. theory 39/ (4) / (4) / (4) /I in Eqs. (19) and (0). On the other hand, experimental data shows a very gradual increase in B (E)out/B (E)in and almost constant in B (M 1)out/B (E)in with increasing I. If increases very gradually with increasing I,itmaycancel the effect of 1/I in Eqs. (19) and (0). This gradual increase in is not taken into account in this paper. For the negative parity bands in 167 Lu, we show two cases of πj15/ and πh11/ in Fig. 3. All the set of parameters are the same as positive parity bands both in 167 Ta and 167 Lu. Again the band-head energy of (0,0) band is adjusted to the experimental band-head energy of TSD1. As seen in Fig. 3, πj15/ is favorable than πh11/. In our last paper, we chose πh11/, but with different AMDMI parameter from positive parity band and with a smaller. As seen in the deivative of Eq. (9) by I [], a larger j value gives steeper gradient than a smaller j, andsoh9/ gives more flat gradient than h11/. It is an interesting feature that all the positive and negative parity TSD band levels are well reproduced in terms of a common set of parameters in AMDMI over the isobar with A= 167, i.e., 167 Ta and 167 Lu. This suggests that the CAP effect is caused by proton 70 and neutron 94 core taking part in the superfluidity. As we have made a quite good simulation of experimental data in odd mass nuclei, we may apply this method to even mass nuclei. Based on this model, we can give one answer to the question why TSD bands are not explicitly observed in even-even nuclei [15]. Although several candidates of TSD bands are observed in Hf isotopes, no linking transition between TSD1 and TSD are found, and most of them have negative parity. If angular momentum of two pairs outside the rotating core is assumed to be the sum of two angular momenta as j= j1+j, and the value of j is assumed to keep contant over some range of total angular momentum, then the algebraic solution can be easily extended to even-even nucleus with an alignment of integer j. In Eq. (3), is replaced by j 1 j 1, and K by K 1. Again the space reduces to 1/4 of the full space because of D invariance. As j is integer, n=0,1,..., j in Eq. (4), and there is no change in Eq. (5). Thus, even in even-a case, TSD1 is assigned to (0,0) and TSD to (1,0). As seen from Tables II and IV in Ref. [],
Sugawara-TanabeTSD bands in 167 Ta and 167 Lu by top on top model analysis the EtransitionfromTSDtoTSD1becomes, B (E; I,10I 1,00) 3 I (Q, 0G0000G1010) 3 I (Q ( I j 1 0) I 4, )3 + B (M1; I,10I 1,00) 4j, I (G0000G1010) 4j j 1 (I I I 4, (1) )3 + where Q 0= 1 Q0(1+ 3 tan). In deriving Eq. (1), we used the approximation given by Eq. (15). The value of j is almost 14 for the alignment of two particles in i13/ and j15/ levels (even- A), while the value of j in i13/ is 6.5 for odd-a nucleus. Then, the value of I j is smaller for even-a case than odd-a case. For example, at I =18 and j=14, [(I j)/i ] (even-a), while the ratio is 0.7 at I =37/ and j=6.5 (odd-a), producing the ratio of even/odd0.04. In 168 Hf π π π π case [16], the alignment seems to be much larger like 3, resulting less [(I j)/i ] 3 value. This makes the observation of the other partner TSD band in even-a nucleus difficult. We have applied the particle-rotor model including an angular momentum dependent moments of inertia (AMDMI) method, which simulates the collapse of pairing correlation in the rotating core, to A=167 isobars. In order to explain both energy scheme and branching ratio observed in 167 Ta [9], we choose =19in accordance with experimental data. With the same set of parameters, we can explain both positive and negative parity band levels in 167 Lu. As for the positive parity bands, a valence proton occupies i13/ orbital, while for the negative parity bands j15/ orbital seems to be better in 167 Lu. The algebraic expressions for B values under the Δn=0 approximation are expressed in terms of the factor 1/I and the nondiagonal elements of the overlap coefficient G depending on the precession quantum numbers. As long as constant value of is adopted over all angular momenta, B (E) value decreases according with increasing I. If we consider a gradual increase of with increasing I instead of AM- DMI method, B (E)out/B (E)in may gradually increase and B (M1)out/B (E)in keep constant because of a factor tan. Under an assumption that the alignment of two single-particle levels is the sum of each j, and the sum keeps constant over some range of total angular momenta, the algebraic solution canbeextendedtoeven-a nucleus. The rough estimation of the transition rates gives a factor of [(I j)/i ] 3 both in B (E)out and B (M1)out values from(1,0)to(0,0).comparingthecaseofi =18
