The Higgs boson in the SM The Higgs boson discovery in 2012 Opened the way to the exploration of the sector of the SM Lagrangian that is responsible for EW symmetry breaking! 2 Giacinto Piacquadio - ICHEP 2018
The Higgs boson in the SM The Higgs boson discovery in 2012 Opened the way to the exploration of the sector of the SM Lagrangian that is responsible for EW symmetry breaking! Two types of tree-level couplings to other SM particles, which determine all Higgs Boson production and decay modes to Fermions to Bosons 3 Giacinto Piacquadio - ICHEP 2018
The LHC Run-1 legacy Higgs boson mass measured to ~0.2% (fixes the SM predictions!) Higgs boson couplings measured to ~-25% precision H invisible constrained to < 25-30% First studies of spin, CP eigenstate/admixtures, differential distributions, all compatible with the SM 4 Giacinto Piacquadio - ICHEP 2018
Is this good enough? No! Coupling to fermions not fully established yet in Run-1 (coupling to top and bottom quarks not directly observed) Generic size of (inclusive) Higgs couplings modifiers expected for new physics (BSM) at ~O(TeV): [Snowmass 2013 study, BSM effects may be enhanced at high transverse momentum, in tails of distribution [Grazzini et al., JHEP 1703, 115 (2017)] Great progress! Will show some of the highlights from ATLAS and CMS based on 36 or 80 fb -1 of Run-2 data (up to 3x the Run-1 luminosity) NEW result released for ICHEP! 5 Giacinto Piacquadio - ICHEP 2018

pt(h) interpretation 40
NEW Interpretation of pt(higgs) The pt(higgs) distribution (normalizations + shape) can be interpreted using an Effective Field Theory in terms of constraints on the coupling rescaling factors kt (top-quark), kb (bottom-quark) and cg (effective ggh coupling) [Grazzini et al., arxiv: v1] kt vs cg pt(h) spectrum can also be used to constraint coupling to c-quarks [Bishara et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 118 (2017)] 41 Important additional handle to constrain the Higgs boson couplings!
ggf, H bb 42
Inclusive H bb Look for ggf, H bb with pt(h) > 450 GeV (particularly sensitive to BSM physics) Z bb: 5.1σ (5.8σ expected) ggf, Η bb: 1.5σ (0.7σ expected) 43 Reconstruct Z/H bb in a single fat R=0.8 AntiKt jet (remove soft activity, require a 2-prong decay, require double b-tagging) Clear observation of Z bb peak. Demonstrates new technique to look for inclusive H bb, and contributes to combined differential measurements of pt(h) above 450 GeV.
