This paper deals with the two-species Keller Segel-Stokes system with competitive kinetics (n t +u n = n χ (n c+µ n ( n a n, x, t > 0, (n t +u n = n χ (n c+µ n ( a n n, x, t > 0, c t +u c = c c+αn +βn, x, t > 0, u t = u+ P +(γn +δn φ, u = 0, x, t > 0 under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions in a bounded domain R 3 with smooth boundary. Many mathematicians study chemotaxis-fluid systems and two-species chemotaxis systems with competitive kinetics. However, there are not many results on coupled two-species chemotaxis-fluid systems which have difficulties of the chemotaxis effect, the competitive kinetics and the fluid influence. Recently, in the two-species chemotaxis-stokes system, where c + αn + βn is replaced with (αn + βn c in the above system, global existence and asymptotic behavior of classical solutions were obtained in the 3-dimensional case under the condition that µ,µ are sufficiently large ([5]. Nevertheless, the above system has not been studied yet; we cannot apply the same argument as in the previous works because of lacking the L -information of c. The main purpose of this paper is to obtain global existence and stabilization of classical solutions to the above system in the 3-dimensional case under the largeness conditions for µ,µ. 00Mathematics Subject Classification. 2 . Introduction and results It is found in many biological experiments that cells have the ability to adapt their migration in response to a chemical signal in their neighbourhood; especially, cells move towards higher concentration of a chemical substance which is produced by themselves. This mechanism plays a central role in mathematical biology, and has many applications in its variants and extensions (see []. Let n denote the density of the cells and c present the concentration of the chemical signal. The mathematical model describing the above mechanism which was first proposed by Keller Segel [] reads as n t = n (n c, c t = c c+n. In the above system which is called Keller Segel system, it is known that the size of initial data determine whether classical solutions of the above system exist globally or not ([4, 0, 9, 6]. In the -dimensional setting global classical solutions of the above system exist when the mass of an initial data n 0 is sufficiently small ([9]. On the other hand, there exist initial data such that the mass of the initial data is large enough and a solution blows up in finite time in a -dimensional bounded domain ([0]. In the higher dimensional caseitisknownthat, ifaninitialdata(n 0,c 0 issufficiently smallwithrespect to suitable Lebesgue norm, then global existence and boundedness of classical solutions hold ([4, 6]. Then we expect that existence of blow-up solutions hold under some largeness condition for initial data also in the higher-dimensional case; however, Winkler [6] showed that for all m > 0 there exist initial data n 0 such that n 0 L ( = m and a solution blows up in finite time in the case that the domain is a ball in R N with N 3. As we mentioned above, we can see that whether solutions of the Keller Segel system blow up or not depends on initial data. On the other hand, it is known that the logistic term can prevent solutions from blowing up even though a initial data is large enough ([3, 0, 7]. Osaki Tsujikawa Yagi Mimura [0] obtained that, in the -dimensional case, the chemotaxis system with logistic source n t = n χ (n c+rn µn, c t = c c+n, where χ,r,µ > 0, possesses a unique global solution for all χ,r,µ > 0 and all initial data. In the higher dimensional case, Winkler [7, 9] established existence of global classical solutions under the condition that µ > 0 is sufficiently large. Moreover, asymptotic behavior of the solutions was obtained: n(,t r, c(,t r in µ µ L ( as t ([7]. Recently, Lankeit [3] obtained global existence of weak solutions to the chemotaxis system with logistic source for all r R and any µ > 0 and the eventual smoothness of the solutions was derived if r R is small. More related works which deal with the Keller Segel system and the chemotaxis system with logistic source can be found in [, Section 3]. The chemotaxis system with logistic source is a single-species case, and has a classical solution which converges to the constant steady state ( r, r. On the other hand, the µ µ
two-species chemotaxis-competition system (n t = n χ (n c+µ n ( n a n, (n t = n χ (n c+µ n ( a n n, c t = c c+αn +βn, where χ,χ,µ,µ,a,a,α,β > 0, which describes the evolution of two competing species which react on a single chemoattractant, has different dynamics depending on a and a ([, 3, 5, 6, 7,, 5]. In the -dimensional case Bai Winkler [] obtained global existence of the above system for all parameters. In the higher-dimensional case global existence and boundedness in the above system were established in [5, 6]. Moreover, it was shown that the solutions of the above system have the same asymptotic behavior as the solutions of Lotka Volterra competition model: n (,t a a a, n (,t a a a, c(,t α( a +β( a a a in L ( as t in the case that a,a (0,, and n (,t 0, n (,t, c(,t β in L ( as t in the case that a > a > 0 ([, 6, 7]. More related works can be found in [3, 5, 8,, 5]. Recently, the chemotaxis-fluid system n t +u n = n χ (n c+rn µn, c t +u c = c+g(n,c, u t +κ(u u = u+ P +n φ, u = 0, where χ > 0, r,µ 0, κ = 0 (the Stokes case or κ = (the Navier Stokes case, which is the chemotaxis system with the fluid influence according to the Navier Stokes equation, was intensively studied ([4, 3, 4, 8]. In the case that g(n,c = nc and r = µ = 0 (chemotaxis-navier Stokes system Winkler [8] first overcame the difficulties of the chemotactic effect and the fluid influence, and showed existence of global classical solutions in the -dimensional case and global existence of weak solutions to the above system with κ = 0 in the 3-dimensional setting; even though in the 3-dimensional chemotaxis-stokes case, classical solutions were not found. In the case that g(n,c = c + n and κ = 0 (Keller Segel-Stokes system Li Xiao[4] showed global existence and boundedness under the smallness condition for the mass of initial data only in the -dimensional case. On the other hand, also in the chemotaxis-fluid system, the logistic source can be helpful for obtaining classical bounded solutions; global classical bounded solutions were established in the -dimensional Keller Segel-Navier Stokes system ([4] and in the 3-dimensional Keller Segel-Stokes system under the condition that µ is large enough ([3]. For more related works we refer to [, Section 4]. As we discussed previously, the chemotaxis-competition system and the chemotaxisfluid system were intensively studied. However, there are not many results on a coupled two-species chemotaxis-fluid system which have difficulties of the chemotaxis effect, the competitive kinetics and the fluid influence. Recently, the problem which is a combination of the chemotaxis-navier Stokes system and the chemotaxis-competition system was studied in the -dimensional case and the 3-dimensional case ([5, 9]; in the -dimensional case global existence and asymptotic behavior of classical bounded solutions to the twospecies chemotaxis-navier Stokes system were established ([9], and in the 3-dimensional 3
case existence and stabilization of global classical bounded solutions to the two-species chemotaxis-stokes system hold under the condition that µ,µ are sufficiently large ([5]. However, the two-species Keller Segel-Stokes system with competitive kinetics (. (n t +u n = n χ (n c+µ n ( n a n, x, t > 0, (n t +u n = n χ (n c+µ n ( a n n, x, t > 0, c t +u c = c c+αn +βn, x, t > 0, u t = u+ P +(γn +δn φ, u = 0, x, t > 0, ν n = ν n = ν c = 0, u = 0, x, t > 0, n i (x,0 = n i,0 (x, c(x,0 = c 0 (x, u(x,0 = u 0 (x, x, i =,, where is a bounded domain, χ,χ,a,a 0 and µ,µ,α,β,γ,δ > 0 are constants, n,0,n,0,c 0,u 0,φareknownfunctions, hasnotbeenstudiedyet; wecannot applythesame argument as in [5] because of lacking the L -information and only having L -estimate for c. in this case. Indeed, we cannot pick r (,3 such that 5 3 p+ 3 (p+θ (p+ 3 r (p+θ 3 r holds at [5, (3.9] (in the case that we use c L (p+θ ( C c a L p+ ( c a L ( instead of[5,(3.8]. The purpose of the present paper is to obtain global existence and asymptotic behavior in (. in a 3-dimensional domain. In order to attain this purpose, we assume throughout this paper that the known functions n,0,n,0,c 0,u 0,φ satisfy (. (.3 < 0 < n,0,n,0 C 0 (, 0 < c 0 W,q (, u 0 D(A ϑ, φ C +η ( for some q > 3, ϑ ( 3 4,, η > 0 and A is the Stokes operator (see []. Then the main results read as follows. The first theorem gives global existence and boundedness in (.. Theorem.. Let R 3 be a bounded domain with smooth boundary and let χ,χ > 0, a,a 0, µ,µ,α,β,γ,δ > 0. Assume that (. and (.3 are satisfied. Then there exists a constant ξ 0 > 0 such that whenever χ := max{χ,χ } and µ := min{µ,µ } satisfy χ µ < ξ 0, there is a classical solution (n,n,c,u,p of the problem (. such that n,n C 0 ( [0, C, ( (0,, c C 0 ( [0, C, ( (0, L loc ([0, ;W,q (, u C 0 ( [0, C, ( (0, L loc ([0, ;D(Aϑ, P C,0 ( (0,. Also, the solution is unique in the sense that it allows up to addition of spatially constants to the pressure P. Moreover, the above solution is bounded in the following sense: sup( n (,t L ( + n (,t L ( + c(,t W,q ( + u(,t D(A <. ϑ t>0 4
The second theorem asserts asymptotic behavior of solutions to (.. Theorem.. Assume that the assumption of Theorem. is satisfied. Then the following properties hold: (i In the case that a,a (0,, under the condition that there exists δ > 0 such that 4δ (+δ a a > 0 and χ ( a 4a µ ( a a + δ χ ( a 4a µ ( a a < 4δ (+δ a a a α δ +a β a a αβ(+δ, the solution of the problem (. converges to a constant stationary solution of (. as follows: n (,t N, n (,t N, c(,t C, u(,t 0 in L ( as t, where N := a a a, N := a a a, C := αn +βn. (ii In the case that a > a, under the condition that there exist δ > 0 and a [,a ] such that 4δ a a (+δ > 0 and µ > χ δ (α a δ +β a αβa a (+δ 4a (4δ a a, (+δ the solution of the problem (. converges to a constant stationary solution of (. as follows: n (,t 0, n (,t, c(,t β, u(,t 0 in L ( as t. The strategy for the proof of Theorem. is to confirm the L p -estimates for n and n with p > 3. By using the differential inequality we can obtain t t ( n p + n p C +C e (p+(t s c p+ C e (p+(t s n p+ + n p+ with some C > 0 and > 0. We will control t e (p+(t s c p+ by applying the variation of the maximal Sobolev regularity (Lemma. for the third equation in (.. Then we can obtain the L p -estimates for n and n. Here the keys of this strategy are the L -estimate for c (Lemma 3. and the maximal Sobolev regularity for the Stokes equation (Lemma.3; these enable us to overcome difficulties of applying an argument similar to that in [5]. On the other hand, the strategy for the proof of Theorem. is to confirm the following inequality: (.4 (n N + (n N + (c C C
with some C > 0, where (N,N,C,0 is a constant stationary solution of (.. In order to obtain this estimate we will find a nonnegative function E satisfying d [ E(t ε (n N +(n N +(c C ] dt with some ε > 0. The above inequality and the positivity of E(t enable us to attain the desired estimate (.4. The plan of this paper is as follows. In Section we collect basic facts which will be used later. Section 3 is devoted to proving global existence and boundedness (Theorem.. In Section 4 we show asymptotic stability (Theorem... Preliminaries In this section we will give some results which will be used later. We can prove the following lemma which gives local existence of classical solutions to (. by a straightforward adaptation of the reasoning in [8, Lemma.]. Lemma.. Let R 3 be a bounded domain with smooth boundary. Assume that (. and (.3 are satisfied. Then there exists T max (0, ] such that the problem (. possesses a classical solution (n,n,c,u,p satisfying n,n C 0 ( [0,T max C, ( (0,T max, c C 0 ( [0,T max C, ( (0,T max L loc([0,t max ;W,q (, u C 0 ( [0,T max C, ( (0,T max L loc ([0,T max;d(a ϑ, P C,0 ( (0,T max, n,n > 0, c > 0 in (0,T max. Also, the above solution is unique up to addition of spatially constants to the pressure P. Moreover, either T max = or n (,t L ( + n (,t L ( + c(,t W,q ( + A ϑ u(,t L ( as t ր T max. Given (0,T max, we can derive from the regularity properties that c(, C ( with ν c(, = 0 on. In particular, there exists M = M( > 0 such that c(, W, ( M (see e.g., [3]. The following two lemmas provided as variations of the maximal Sobolev regularity hold keys for global existence and boundedness of solutions to (.. Lemma.. Let (0,T max. Then for all p > there exists a constant C = C(p > 0 such that t t e ps c p C e ps c+αn +βn u c p holds for all t (,T max. +Ce p ( c(, p L p ( + c(, p L p ( 6
Proof. The proofissimilar tothatof[5, Lemma.]. Let (0,T max andt (,T max. By using the transformation c(,s = e s c(,s, s (,t, and the maximal Sobolev regularity [8, Theorem 3.] for c we obtain this lemma. Lemma.3. Let (0,T max. Then for all p > there exists a constant C = C(p, > 0 such that t ( t t t Au p C u p + n p + +C e ps for all t (,T max. e ps e ps e ps n p Proof. Letting (0,T max and t (,T max and putting ũ(,s := e s u(,s, s (,t, we obtain from the forth equation in (. that which derives ũ s = ũ+ũ+e s (γn +δn φ+e s P, ũ s +Aũ = P[ũ+e s (γn +δn φ], where P denotes the Helmholtz projection mapping L ( onto its subspace L σ( of all solenoidal vector field. Thus we derive from [6, Theorem.7] that there exist positive constants C = C (p, and C = C (p, such that t t ũ s (,s p L p ( ds+ Aũ(,s p L p ( ds ( t C ũ(,s+e s (γn (,s+δn (,s φ p L p ( ds+ ( t t C e ps u(,s p L p ( ds+ e ps ( n (,s p L p ( + n (,s p L p ( ds+ for all t (,T max. Hence we can prove this lemma. 3. Boundedness. Proof of Theorem. We will prove Theorem. by preparing a series of lemmas in this section. Lemma 3.. There exists a constant C > 0 such that for i =,, n i (,t C for all t (0,T max and t+τ where τ := min{, T max}. t n i C for all t (0,T max τ, Proof. The above lemma can be proved by the same argument as in the proof of [9, Lemma 3.]. 7
Lemma 3.. There exists a positive constant C such that c(,t L ( C for all t (0,T max. Moreover, for all p [,6 there exists a positive constant C(p such that c(,t L p ( C(p for all t (0,T max. Proof. Integrating the third equation in (. over together with the L -estimates for n and n provided by Lemma 3. implies that there exists C > 0 such that (3. c(,t L ( C for all t (0,T max. We next see from an argument similar to that in the proofs of [3, Lemmas.5 and.6] that there is C > 0 such that (3. c(,t L ( C for all t > 0. Thanks to (3. and (3., we have from the Gagliardo Nirenberg inequality that c(,t L p ( C 3 c(,t a L ( c(,t a L ( +C 3 c(,t L ( C 3 C a C a +C 3 C for all t (0,T max with some positive constant C 3, where a = 6 ( (0,. Thus we 5 p can prove this lemma. Lemma 3.3. For r (,3 there exists a constant C = C(r > 0 such that u(,t L r ( C for all t (0,T max. Proof. The L r -boundedness of u for r (,3 can be obtained from the well-known Neumann heat semigroup estimates together with Lemma 3. (for more details, see [30, Corollary 3.4]. Now we fix (0,T max (0,]. We will obtain the L p -estimates for n and n by preparing a series of lemmas. Lemma 3.4. For all p >, ε > 0 and l > 0 there exists a constant C = C(p > 0 such that p n p + t ( n p (µ ε le (p+t e (p+s n p+ + n p+ p t +Cl p χ p+ e (p+t c p+ +C e (p+s on (,T max, where µ = min{µ,µ }, χ = max{χ,χ }. Proof. We can prove this lemma by using the same argument as in the proof of [5, Lemma 3.4]. 8
Lemma 3.5. For all p ( 3, there exists a constant C = C(p > 0 such that ( t e (p+s for all t (,T max. c p+ C t e (p+s n p+ + n p+ + Au +Ce p+ (p+t +C Proof. Fix θ ( 3, and put θ = θ (,3. From Lemma. we have θ t t (3.3 c p+ C c+αn +βn u c p+ e (p+s e (p+s +C e (p+ c(, p+ W,p+ ( with some positive constant C = C (p. It follows from Lemma 3. and the Hölder inequality that there exists a positive constant C = C (p such that (3.4 t e (p+s C t C t +C t e (p+s e (p+s c+αn +βn u c p+ (n p+ +n p+ ( n p+ + + u c p+ +C e (p+t n p+ e (p+s u(,s p+ L (p+θ ( c(,s p+ L (p+θ ( ds+c e (p+t. Here the Gagliardo Nirenberg inequality and Lemma 3. imply (3.5 c p+ C L (p+θ ( 3 c a(p+ L p+ ( c ( a(p+ L ( +C 3 c p+ L ( C 4 c a(p+ L p+ ( +C 4 with some constants C 3 = C 3 (p > 0 and C 4 = C 4 (p > 0, where a := 3 6 (p+θ 5 6 p+ (0,. We derive from (3.3, (3.4, (3.5 and the Young inequality that there exists a positive constant C 5 = C 5 (p such that t e (p+s c p+ C 5 t +C 5 t e (p+s ( e (p+s +C 5 e (p+t +C 5. n p+ + t n p+ +a e (p+s c p+ ( u(,s p+ a L (p+θ ( + u(,s p+ L (p+θ ( ds 9
Hence we can obtain that (3.6 t e (p+s c p+ C t 5 a + C 5 a e (p+s t ( e (p+s + C 5 a e(p+t + C 5 a. Here we can choose r (,3 such that n p+ + n p+ ( u(,s p+ a L (p+θ ( + u(,s p+ L (p+θ ( ds ( p+ 6 (p+θ r (p+θ 3 + r p+ < holds. Now it follows from the Gagliardo Nirenberg inequality, Lemma 3.3 and the Young inequality that there exists a constant C 6 = C 6 (p > 0 such that (3.8 u(,s p+ a Au(,s p+ a b u(,s p+ L (p+θ ( L p+ ( C 6 +C 6 Au(,s p+ L p+ ( a ( b L r ( with because b := r (p+θ + 3 r p+ p+ a b = (p+ 5 6 p+ 6 (p+θ (0,, r (p+θ 3 + r p+ holds from (3.7. We moreover have from the fact (3.8 that a < p+ (3.9 u(,s p+ L (p+θ ( C 7 +C 7 Au(,s p+ L p+ ( >, the Young inequality and for all s (,T max with some constant C 7 = C 7 (p > 0. Thus, combining (3.6, (3.8 and (3.9, we see that there exists a constant C 8 = C 8 (p > 0 such that t t ( e (p+s c p+ C 8 e (p+s n p+ + n p+ t +C 8 Au p+ +C 8 e (p+t +C 8 e (p+s for all t (,T max, which concludes the proof of this lemma. We give the following lemma to control t e (p+s c p+. 0
Lemma 3.6. For all p ( 3, there exists a constant C = C(p > 0 such that t t ( e (p+s for all t (,T max. Au p+ C e (p+s n p+ + Proof. A combination of Lemmas.3 and 3.3 implies this lemma. n p+ +Ce (p+t +C The following lemma is concerned with the L p -estimates for n and n. Lemma 3.7. For all p ( 3, there exists ξ 0 > 0 such that if χ µ < ξ 0, then there exists a constant C > 0 such that n i (,t L p ( C for all t (0,T max and for i =,. Proof. From Lemmas 3.4, 3.5 and 3.6 we have that there exists a constant K(p > 0 such that p n p + (3.0 n p p t ( (µ ε l K(pl p χ p+ e (p+t +K(pl p χ p+ +K(p e (p+s n p+ + n p+ for all t (,T max, where ε > 0 and l > 0. Here there exists a constant ξ 0 = ξ 0 (p > 0 such that (3. inf l>0 (l+k(pl p χ p+ = ξ 0 χ. If χ µ < ξ 0, then we see from (3. that inf l>0 (l+k(pl p χ p+ < µ, and hence there exists a constant l > 0 such that µ > l+k(pl p χ p+. Therefore, under the condition that χ µ < ξ 0, we can find ε > 0 satisfying µ ε l K(pl p χ p+ 0, which enables us to obtain from (3.0 that p n p + n p K(pl p χ p+ +K(p p holds on (,T max.
Lemma 3.8. Assume χ µ < ξ 0. Then there exists a constant C > 0 such that for all t (0,T max. A ϑ u(,t L ( C and u(,t L ( C Proof. Thanks to Lemma 3.7, we can show this lemma by the same argument as in the proof of [5, Lemma 3.9]. Lemma 3.9. Assume χ µ < ξ 0. Then there exist r (3,6 (,q] and C = C(r > 0 such that c(,t L r ( C for all t (0,T max. Proof. This proof is based on that of [5, Lemma 3.0]. We first note from Lemma 3.7 that for all p ( 3,, αn (,s+βn (,s L p( C with some constant C = C (p > 0 and by choosing θ (r,6 we see from Lemmas 3. and 3.8 that u(,sc(,s L θ ( C with some constant C > 0. Therefore an argument similar to that in the proof of [5, Lemma 3.0] implies this lemma. Lemma 3.0. Assume χ µ < ξ 0. Then there exists a constant C > 0 such that n i (,t L ( C for all t (0,T max and for i =,. Proof. We can prove this lemma in the same way as in the proof of [5, Lemma 3.]. Proof of Theorem.. Lemmas., 3.8, 3.9 and 3.0 directly drive Theorem.. 4. Asymptotic behavior. Proof of Theorem. We first recall the following lemma which will give stabilization in (.. Lemma 4. ([9, Lemma 4.6].
