The method is implemeted i the computer algebra package HarmoicSums. th Iteratioal Symposium o Radiative Correctios 2-29 September, 27 St. Gilge, Austria Speaker. 2 . Itroductio There have bee several methods proposed to compute the iverse Melli trasform of special sequeces, for istace i [] a algorithm usig rewrite rules) to compute the iverse Melli trasform of harmoic sums was stated. This algorithm was exteded i [] to geeralized harmoic sums such as S-sums ad cyclotomic sums. A differet approach to compute iverse Melli trasforms of biomial sums was described i []. I [2] a method to compute the iverse Melli trasform of geeral holoomic sequeces was described. That method uses holoomic closure properties ad was implemeted i the computer algebra packageharmoicsums [,, 5,, 7]. I the frame of the method a liear differetial equatio has to be solved. So far the differetial equatios solver of HarmoicSums was oly able to fid d Alembertia solutios [8]. Recetly the solver was geeralized ad therefore more geeral iverse Melli trasforms ca be computed. I the followig we repeat importat defiitios ad properties compare [2,, ]). Let K be a field of characteristic. A fuctio f = fx) is called holoomic or D-fiite) if there exist polyomials p d x), p d x),..., p x) K[x] ot all p i beig ) such that the followig holoomic differetial equatio holds: p d x) f d) x)+ + p x) f x)+ p x) fx) =..) We emphasize that the class of holoomic fuctios is rather large due to its closure properties. Namely, if we are give two such differetial equatios that cotai holoomic fuctios fx) ad gx) as solutios, oe ca compute holoomic differetial equatios that cotai fx) + gx), fx)gx) or x fy)dy as solutios. I other words ay compositio of these operatios over kow holoomic fuctios fx) ad gx) is agai a holoomic fuctio hx). I particular, if for the ier buildig blocks fx) ad gx) the holoomic differetial equatios are give, also the holoomic differetial equatio of hx) ca be computed. Of special importace is the coectio to recurrece relatios. A sequece f ) with f K is called holoomic or P-fiite) if there exist polyomials p d ), p d ),..., p ) K[] ot all p i beig ) such that a holoomic recurrece p d ) f +d + + p ) f + + p ) f =.2) holds for all N from a certai poit o). I the followig we utilize the fact that holoomic fuctios are precisely the geeratig fuctios of holoomic sequeces: if fx) is holoomic, the the coefficiets f of the formal power series expasio fx)= = form a holoomic sequece. Coversely, for a give holoomic sequece f ), the fuctio defied by the above sum i.e., its geeratig fuctio) is holoomic this is true i the sese of formal power series, eve if the sum has a zero radius of covergece). Note that give a holoomic differetial equatio for a holoomic fuctio fx) it is straightforward to costruct a holoomic recurrece for the coefficiets of its power series expasio. For a recet overview of this holoomic machiery ad further literature we refer to []. A additioal property of f x
holoomic fuctios was give for example i [2] ad []: if the Melli trasform of a holoomic fuctio M[ fx)]) := x fx)dx=f)..) of a holoomic fuctio is defied i.e., the itegral x fx)dx exists, the it is a holoomic sequece. Coversely, if the Melli trasform M[ fx)]) of a fuctio fx) is holoomic, the also the fuctio fx) is holoomic. I this article we will report a extesio of HarmoicSums based o Kovacic s algorithm [2] that supports the user to calculate the iverse Melli trasform i terms of iterated itegrals that exceed the class of d Alembertia solutios. The paper is orgaized as follows. I Sectio 2 we revisit the method to compute the iverse Melli trasform of holoomic fuctios from [2], while i Sectio we explai the geeralizatio of the method ad i Sectio we give some examples. 2. The Iverse Melli Trasform of Holoomic Sequeces I the followig, we deal with the followig problem: Give a holoomic sequece F). Fid, wheever possible, a holoomic fuctio fx) such that for all N from a certai poit o) we have M[ fx)]) = F). I [2] a procedure was described to compute a differetial equatio for fx) give a holoomic recurrece for M[ fx)]). Give this procedure the followig method to compute the iverse Melli trasform of holoomic sequeces was proposed i [2]:. Compute a holoomic recurrece for M[ fx)]). 2. Use the method metioed above to compute a holoomic differetial equatio for fx).. Compute a liear idepedet set of solutios of the holoomic differetial equatio usig HarmoicSums).. Compute iitial values for M[ fx)]). 5. Combie the iitial values ad the solutios to get a closed form represetatio for fx). I our applicatios we usually apply this method o expressios i terms of ested sums, however as log as there is a method to compute the holoomic recurrece for a give expressio i.e., item ca be performed) this proposed method ca be used. Aother possible iput would be a holoomic recurrece together with sufficiet iitial values. Note that util recetly HarmoicSums could fid all solutios of holoomic differetial equatios that ca be expressed i terms of iterated itegrals over hyperexpoetial alphabets [, 9,, ]; these solutios are called d Alembertia solutios [8]. Hece as log as such solutios were sufficiet to solve the differetial equatio i item we succeeded to compute fx). I case d Alembertia solutios do ot suffice to solve the differetial equatio i item, we have to exted the solver for differetial equatios. 2
. Beyod d Alembertia solutios of liear differetial equatios Util recetly oly d Alembertia solutios of liear differetial equatios could be foud i usig HarmoicSums compare [2]), but i order to treat more geeral problems the differetial equatio solver had to be exteded. I [2] a algorithm to solve secod order liear homogeeous differetial equatios is described. We will refer to this algorithm as Kovacic s algorithm. Cosider the holoomic differetial equatio p i x) C[x]) Kovacic s algorithm decides whether.) p 2 x) f x)+ p x) f x)+ p x) fx)=..) has a solutio of the form e ω where ω Cx); has a solutio of the form e ω where ω is algebraic over Cx) of degree 2 ad the previous case does ot hold; all solutios are algebraic overcx) ad the previous cases do ot hold; has o such solutios; ad fids the solutios if they exist. Note that the solutios Kovacic s algorithm ca fid are called Liouvillia solutios []. I case Kovacic s algorithm fids a solutio, it is straightforward to compute a secod solutio which will agai be Liouvillia. This algorithm was implemeted iharmoicsums. Example. Cosider the followig differetial equatio: x 89x+7x 2) + 9x 2 2 7x+59x 2) D x + 8x x+27x 2) ) D 2 x fx)=, with the implemetatio of Kovacic s algorithm i HarmoicSums we fid the followig two solutios: x x 2+2 x x f x) =, x) x 5 +27x) + x x 2 2 x x f 2 x) =. x) x 5 +27x). Composig solutios Suppose we are give the liear differetial equatio q i, p i C[x];d > ) ) q d x)d d x + + q x) fx) =,.2) which factorizes liearly ito d first-order factors. The this yields d liearly idepedet solutios of the form f2 x) f x), f x) f x) dx, f f2 x) f x) x) f x) f 2 x) dxdx,..., f f2 f d x) x) f x) f d x) dx dx,
where the f i are hyperexpoetial fuctios i.e., D x f i x) f i x) Kx) ). These solutios are also called d Alembertia solutios of.2), compare [, 8]. Now suppose that a give differetial equatio does ot factorize liearly, but cotais i betwee secod-order factors, which ca be solved, e.g., by Kovacic s algorithm. Let the followig differetial equatio correspod to a secod order factor: p2 x)d 2 x+p x)d x + p x) ) fx) =,.) the we ca compose the solutios of the first order ad secod order factors as follows. Let sx) be solutio of.2) ad let g x) ad g 2 x) be solutios of.). The g x) sx), sx) sx) dx ad sx) g2 x) sx) dx are solutios of p2 x)d 2 x + p x)d x + p x) ) q d x)d d x x)) + + q fx)=. I additio, if we defie wx) := p 2 x)g x)g 2x) g x)g 2 x)) the g x), g 2 x) ad g x) sx)wx)g 2 x)dx g 2 x) sx)wx)g x)dx are solutios of q d x)d d x + + q x)) p2 x)d 2 x+p x)d x + p x) ) fx)=.. Examples Example 2. We wat to compute the iverse Melli trasform of ) ) f :=. 27 We fid that which leads to the differetial equatio 2+)+2) f + 9+)2+) f + =, 27x ) fx)+9x7x ) f x)+8x 2 x ) f x)=, for which we fid with the help of Kovacic s algorithm the geeral solutio 2+2 x x 2 2 x x sx)= c + c 2 x x 2, x x 2 for some costats c ad c 2. I order to determie these costats we compute x sx)dx = 9 c + 8π ) + 8log2) + 9 c 2 + 8π ) 8log2),
x 2 sx)dx = 8 c 7+ 2π ) + 2log2) + 8 c π ) 2log2). Sice f = /9 ad f 2 = 8/2 we ca deduce that c = c 2 = f = [ 2 2 x x+ π M xx 2/ i= π ad hece ] 2+2 x x Example. Durig the Computatio of the iverse Melli trasform of ) i i i we have to solve the followig differetial equatio: = 2727x ) fx)+ x 2 2x+ ) f x)+9x 5x 2 298x+ ) f x) +8x )x 2 27x ) f ) x). We are able to fid the geeral solutio of that differetial equatio usigharmoicsums: x c 27x + c 2 Give this geeral solutio we fid: ) ) i 27 + = i i i= τ) 2/ + τ τ dτ π π 27x ) x 27 ) x + c x ) x 27 27x dx 27 x x ). τ+ τ) 2/ dτ τ 27x ) 2/ dτ τ + τ τ 27x dx ) 2/ dτ + τ τ τ ) 27x Fially, we list several examples that could be computed usigharmoicsums: Example. ) = 2 2 2π ) = 2 2 ) = 27) x + x+ x ) x+ dx, x xx x + x + x ) x + x xx dx, x + x + x ) ) 2/ x + dx, x xx dx.. 5
