The first approach is based on the full-rank decomposition of a given matrix. The second and third approaches, which depend on the explicit expression of the core-ep inverse, are established. The corresponding it representations of the dual core-ep inverse are also given. In particular, it representations of the core and dual core inverse are derived. Keywords: Core-EP inverse; Core inverse; Limit representation; 017 MSC: 1A09 1. Introduction In 197, it representation of the Drazin inverse was established by Meyer [1]. In 1986, Kalaba and Rasakhoo [8] introduced it representation of the Moore-Penrose inverse. In 199, An alternative it representation of the Drazin inverse was given by Ji [7]. It is well known that the six kinds of classical generalized inverses: the Moore-Penrose inverse, the weighted Moore-Penrose inverse, the group inverse, the Drazin inverse, the Bott-Duffin inverse and the generalized Bott-Duffin inverse can be presented as particular generalized inverse A () T,S with prescribed range and null space (see, for example, [,,, 1]). 2 Let T be a subspace of C n and let S be a subspace of C m. The generalized inverse A () T,S [] of matrix A Cm n is the matrix G C n m satisfying GAG = G,R(G) = T,N(G) = S. In 1998, Wei [18] established a unified it representation of the generalized inverse A () T,S. Let A Cm n be matrix of rank r, let T be a subspace of C n of dimension s r, and let S be a subspace of C m of dimension m s. Suppose G C n m such that R(G) = T and N(G) = S. If A () T,S exists, then A () T,S (GA λi) 1 G G(AG λi) 1, 10 where R(G) and N(G) denote the range space and null space of G, respectively. In 1999, Stanimirović [1] introduced a more general it formula. Let M and N are two arbitrary p q matrices, then (M N +λi) 1 M M (NM +λi) 1. (1.1) Theit representationofgeneralizedinversea () T,S isaspecial caseoftheabove general formula. In 01, Liu et al. [10] introduced it representation of the generalized inverse A () R(B),N(C) in Banach space. Let A Cm n be matrix of rank r. Let T be a subspace of C n of dimension s r, and let S be a subspace of C m of dimension m s. Suppose B C n s and C C s m such that R(B) = T and N(C) = S. If A () T,S exists, then A () T,S B(CAB +λi) 1 C. 1 In 010, the core and dual core inverse were introduced by Baksalary and Trenkler for square matrices of index at most 1 in [1]. In 01, the core inverse was extended to the core-ep inverse defined by Manjunatha Prasad and Mohana [11]. The core-ep inverse coincides with the core inverse if the index of a given matrix is 1. In this paper, the dual conception of the core-ep inverse 0 was called the dual core-ep inverse. The characterizations of the core-ep and
0 core inverse were investigated in complex matrices and rings (see, for example, [, 6, 9, 1, 16, 17, 19]). From the above mentioned it representations of the generalized inverse, we know that it representation of the core-ep inverse similar to the form of (1.1) has not been investigated in the literature. The purpose of this paper is to establish three it representations of the core-ep inverse. The first approach is based on the full-rank decomposition of a given matrix. The second and third approaches, which depend on the explicit expression of the core-ep inverse, are represented. The corresponding it representations of the dual core-ep inverse are also given. In particular, it representations of the core and dual core inverse are derived.. Preinaries In this section, we give some auxiliary definitions and lemmas. For arbitrary matrix A C m n, the symbol C m n denotes the set of all complex m n matrices. A and rk(a) denote the conjugate transpose and rank of A, respectively. I is the identity matrix of an appropriate order. If k is the smallest nonnegative integer such that rk(a k ) = rk(a k+1 ), then k is called the index of A and denoted by ind(a). Definition.1. [] Let A C m n. The unique matrix A C n m is called the Moore-Penrose inverse of A if it satisfies AA A = A, A AA = A, (AA ) = AA, (A A) = A A. Definition.. [] Let A C n n. The unique matrix A D C n n is called the Drazin inverse of A if it satisfies A k+1 A D = A k, A D AA D = A D, AA D = A D A, 0 where k = ind(a). When k = 1, the Drazin inverse reduced to the group inverse and it is denoted by A #.
Definition.. [1] A matrix A # C n n is called the core inverse of A C n n if it satisfies AA # = P A and R(A # ) R(A). Dually, A matrix A # C n n is called the dual core inverse of A C n n if it satisfies A # A = P A and R(A # ) R(A ). Definition.. [11] A matrix X C n n, denoted by A, is called the core-ep inverse of A C n n if it satisfies XAX = X and R(X) = R(X ) = R(A D ). Dually, A matrix X C n n, denoted by A, is called the dual core-ep inverse of A C n n if it satisfies XAX = X and R(X) = R(X ) = R((A ) D ). The core-ep inverse was extended from complex matrices to rings by Gao and Chen in [6]. Lemma.. [6] Let A C n n with ind(a) = k and let m be a positive integer with m k. Then A = A D A m (A m ). Clearly, If A C n n with ind(a) = k, then it has a unique core-ep inverse. So according to Lemma., we have A = A D A k (A k ) = A D A k+1 (A k+1 ) = A k (A k+1 ). (.1) As for an arbitrary matrix A C n n. If A is nilpotent, then A D = 0. In this case, A = A = 0. This case is considered to be trivial. So we restrict the matrix A to be non-nilpotent in this paper. 0 Lemma.6. [] Let A C n n with ind(a) = k. If A = B 1 G 1 is a full- rank decomposition and G i B i = B i+1 G i+1 are also full-rank decompositions, i = 1,,...,k 1. Then the following statements hold:
(1) G k B k is invertible. () A k = B 1 B B k G k G G 1. () A D = B 1 B B k (G k B k ) k 1 G k G 1. In particular, for k = 1, then G 1 B 1 is invertible and A # = B 1 (G 1 B 1 ) G 1. According to [], it is also known that A = G 1(G 1 G 1) 1 (B 1B 1 ) 1 B 1. Lemma.7. [17] Let A C n n with ind(a) = 1. If A = MN is a full-rank decomposition, then A # = M(NM) 1 (M M) 1 M. Lemma.8. [16] Let A C n n with ind(a) = k. Then A can be written as the sum of matrices A 1 and A, i.e., A = A 1 +A, where (1) rk(a 1 ) = rk(a 1). 60 () A k = 0. () A 1A = A A 1 = 0.. The first approach In this section, we present it representations of the core-ep and dual core- EP inverse, which depend on the full-rank decomposition of a given matrix. In 6 particular, it representations of the core and dual core inverse are also given. Theorem.1. Let A C n n with ind(a) = k, and the full-rank decomposition of A be as in Lemma.6. Then A B(BG k B k ) (BG k B k (BG k B k ) +λi) 1 B((BG k B k ) BG k B k +λi) 1 (BG k B k )
and A ((G k B k G) G k B k G+λI) 1 (G k B k G) G (G k B k G) (G k B k G(G k B k G) +λi) 1 G, where B = B 1 B B k and G = G k G G Proof. Let B = B 1 B B k, G = G k G G 1 and X = B(BG k B k ). Suppose that A C n n with ind(a) = k, and the full-rank decomposition of A be as in Lemma.6. From [1], we know that A A (AA +λi) 1 (A A+λI) 1 A. (.1) So it is sufficient to verify X = A. Since AB = B 1 G 1 B 1 B k = B 1 B G B B k = = BG k B k, (.) XAX = B(BG k B k ) AB(BG k B k ) (.) = B(BG k B k ) = X. From Lemma.6,we obtain B(BG k B k ) = B(G k B k ) 1 (B B) 1 B. Therefore, X = B(B B) 1 ((G k B k ) 1 ) B. It is easy verify that B B, GG and G k B k are invertible. Hence rk(b) = rk(b(g k B k ) B B) rk(b(bg k B k ) ) rk(b), rk(b) = rk(b(b B) 1 ((G k B k ) 1 ) B B) rk(x ) rk(b), rk(b) = rk(b(g k B k ) k 1 GG ) rk(b(g k B k ) k 1 G) rk(b). Thus, we have the following equalities: R(X) = R(B(BG k B k ) ) = R(B(BG k B k ) ) = R(B), R(X ) = R(B(B B) 1 ((G k B k ) 1 ) B ) = R(B), 6
R(A D ) = R(B(G k B k ) k 1 G) = R(B). Namely, R(X) = R(X ) = R(A D ). Similarly, we can verify A = (G k B k G) G. This completes the proof. 7 Let k = 1 in Theorem.1. Then we obtain the following corollary. Corollary.. Let A C n n with ind(a) = 1. If A = BG is a full-rank decomposition, then A # B(AB) (AB(AB) +λi) 1 B((AB) AB +λi) 1 (AB) and A # ((GA) GA+λI) 1 (GA) G (GA) (GA(GA) +λi) 1 G.. The second and third approaches 80 In this section, we present two types of it representations of the core-ep and dual core-ep inverse, which depend on their own explicit representation. In particular, it representations of the core and dual core inverse are also given. Based on Definition. and Lemma., we present the second approach by using the following equation firstly: A A k+1 = A D A k (A k ) A k+1 = A k, where k = ind(a). Theorem.1. Let A C n n with ind(a) = k. Then 8 (1) A A k (A k ) (A k+1 (A k ) +λi) 1, () A ((A k ) A k+1 +λi) 1 (A k ) A k. 7
Proof. Supposethat A C n n with ind(a) = k.let the core-epdecomposition be as in Lemma.8. From [16], we know that there exists a unitary matrix U such that A = U T S U, where T is a nonsingular matrix, rk(t) = rk(a k ) 0 N and N is anilpotent matrix of index k. The core-ep inverse of A is A = U T 1 0 U. By a direct computation, we obtain 0 0 A k = U Tk ˆT U,A k+1 = U Tk+1 T ˆT U, (A k ) = U (Tk ) 0 U, where ˆT k 1 = T i SN k 1 i. (.1) ˆT 0 A k (A k ) = U Tk (T k ) + ˆT(ˆT) 0 U, (.) 0 0 A k+1 (A k ) +λi n = U Tk+1 (T k ) +T ˆT(ˆT) +λi rk(t) 0 U. (.) 0 λi n rk(t) i=0 90 Since T is nonsingular, T k (T k ) + ˆT(ˆT) is positive definite matrix. Combining with (.)and (.), we have Ak (A k ) (A k+1 (A k ) +λi) 1 U Tk (T k ) + ˆT(ˆT) Tk+1 (T k ) +T ˆT(ˆT) 1 +λi rk(t) 0 U = U T 1 0 U. 0 λi n rk(t) 0 0 () It is analogous. Let k = 1, we have the following corollary. Corollary.. Let A C n n with ind(a) = 1. Then (1) A # AA (A A +λi) 1, 8
9 () A # (A A +λi) 1 A A. Next, we present the third approach of it representations of the core-ep inverse. From Definition. and equation (.1), it is easy to know that A = A k (A k+1 ) and A = (A k+1 ) A k, where k = ind(a). Combining with it representation of the Moore-Penrose inverse of A, we have the following theorem. Theorem.. Let A C n n with ind(a) = k. Then A A k (A k+1 ) (A k+1 (A k+1 ) +λi) 1 A k ((A k+1 ) A k+1 +λi) 1 (A k+1 ) and A ((A k+1 ) A k+1 +λi) 1 (A k+1 ) A k (A k+1 ) (A k+1 (A k+1 ) +λi) 1 A k 100 Let k = 1, we have the following corollary. Corollary.. Let A C n n with ind(a) = 1. Then A # A(A ) (A (A ) +λi) 1 A((A ) A +λi) 1 (A ) and A # ((A ) A +λi) 1 (A ) A (A ) (A (A ) +λi) 1 A. Let k = 1. From [1], we know that A # = (A A ). According to the above corollary, it is known that A # = A(A ). Since the core inverse is unique, we 10 obtain the following corollary. Corollary.. Let A C n n with ind(a) = 1. Then (A A ) = A(A ). 9
. Examples In this section, we present two examples to illustrate the efficacy of the established it representations in this paper Example.1. Let A =, where ind(a) = and rk(a) =. Let B 1 =, G 1 = , B = 1 0, G = The exactcore-ep inverse of A is equal to A = Set B = B 1 B and E = G B Using matlab, we have B(BE) (BE(BE) +λi) 1 = A (A ) (A (A ) +λi) 1 = A (A ) (A (A ) +λi) 1 = ,,.
1 0 Example.. Let A = 0, where rk(a) = and ind(a) = 1. Let B =,G = According to Lemma.7, the exact core inverse of A is equal to A # = B(B BGB) 1 B = Using matlab, we obtain B(AB) (AB(AB) +λi) 1 = AA (A A +λi) 1 = A(A ) (A (A ) +λi) 1 = , 1,. 110 Acknowledgements This research is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (No , No ).
