12 Oral Reading Fluency Our solar system used to have nine planets. Now it has eight. In August 2006, scientists decided that Pluto was not a planet at all. Pluto is very small. It is even smaller than our moon. Pluto is also very far away from Earth. It is so small and so far away that it is hard to see, even with a telescope. No space probe has ever gone there. As a result, scientists know very little about Pluto. Since Pluto was discovered in 1930, scientists have wondered whether it really is a planet. This is partly because it is so small and so far away. Now scientists have decided to answer the question. First they had to answer another question. What is a planet? They found that all the other planets have at least three things in common. Pluto has only two of these things. Scientists decided to give Pluto a new title, dwarf planet. Dwarf planets, like the other planets, go around the sun. They also have a nearly round shape Oral Reading Fluency 120 /WCPM
