1 INKredible! Summer 2015 Catherine Lin-8TH grade You are about to read the school year s last issue of INKredible!. We all had fun taking the photos, drawing the pictures, and writing the stories. We put a lot of work into this magazine all year. We are glad you enjoyed the previous editions and we hope you enjoy this edition. -Editor in Chief Liam Busch

3 Burdens Part III By Liam Busch-8 th grade Previously On Burdens Ovis and the rest of the team went into the jungle heading for Malus' lair. They got attacked by Contagions and Ovis woke up in a one room house with the rest of his team asleep in beds. There is also an old man and a small mushroom person in the house. Burdens Part III "Where am I?" Ovis sleepily said to an old man sitting in front of him who was writing something down. "You are halfway between the Concave village and the Contagion lair," said the old man, "I am Hippocrates, I am a doctor. I found you and your friends here on my way back from the Concave village." Ovis turned his head to the left and saw all of his friends asleep in beds. They did not look well and they had purple lines on their skin marking their veins. Tree looked the worst out of them all. "What is wrong with them?" Ovis asked in a concerned tone of voice. "They have the Contagion virus,. You had it too, but my apprentice and I cured you," Hippocrates said in a low voice. A small mushroom person walked out from the space in between two beds. He said in a squeaky voice, "Hello, I am Portobello, Hippocrates' apprentice." He then returned to trying to give Tree some medicine. "The treant is the sickest of them all. Good thing you got golden honey from the chief of Concave; it is used in the cure. The treant shouldn't be traveling with you. He is only a child," Hippocrates said in a voice that tried to hide frustration. "What?" Said Ovis. "The treant is a kid. We have been trying to cure him first. I am not sure if you know that the Contagion virus kills adults but turns kids into Contagions." "Tree isn't a kid." "He is." Ovis felt very guilty. He never wanted to put a kid's life in danger. He never knew that Tree was an orphan since birth. Ovis blamed himself for the possibility that Tree will become a true monster. One by one everyone else woke up. Hippocrates told them they needed to get rest, but they worried about the team members that were still asleep too much to rest. Tree was the last to wake up, but he did not wake up until the next morning. Everyone was miraculously cured by Hippocrates and Portobello. Everyone was feeling just fine, except for Tree. Tree got up, but he was very weak. Hippocrates told him he needed to lay back down but Tree wanted to continue with the team. Chirp told him to get his rest and head with them tomorrow. Ovis wasn't sure if that was a good idea. He didn't want to endanger the life of a child again. The next day Tree was feeling much better. Ovis told Uno and Billy to stay close to him. Portobello gave the team some food before they left. They walked for three days through the jungle before the got to the entrance of the Contagion lair. Ovis gave a speech before entering the lair. "Gentlemen, we came farther than most did. There are many Contagions in the lair, and the king Malus is at the end. The sunshine awaits us past him. We kill Malus and all Contagions die with him. If we don't make it, I want you to know that it has been an honor to travel with you all. Let's hope we make it out alive."

4 They walked down a path with many Contagions on the wall, staring at them as they walked, but they didn't attack. They soon came face to face with Malus. He was more humanoid than the Contagions but even more nasty looking. He had six fingers on each hand, six horns, six red eyes, and wrinkled purple skin. He was very tall and had a slender body. He had claws the length of his fingers and stained teeth. He wore a long black robe with red trim. "Welcome travelers," Malus said in his creepy low-pitched voice, "I humbly welcome you to the sight of your death." Chirp threw his sharpened stick at Malus and he caught it with a finger and thumb. "Your twig can't hurt me," Malus chuckled, "now where was I?" Malus lifted his robe slightly off the ground, he maniacally laughed as a dark aura creeped out. It climbed up his robe and seeped into his horns. Malus' horns grew bigger, his eyes glowed, his teeth grew sharper, his wrinkles disappeared, his hands had some sort of dark aura around them, and his laugh grew louder. Finally, his slender body became the one of a body builder. Malus transformed into the perfect killing machine. "You can't douse the fire I started!" Malus laughed. Gar the Garjin eye fired lasers at Malus. They had absolutely no effect. Malus used dark magic and knocked out everyone but Ovis. He picked up Tree and said, "This child will make a great addition to the Contagion family. Don't worry, I will take great care of him." Malus laughed as Ovis screamed, "PUT HIM DOWN! HE IS JUST A KID!" All of a sudden Ovis was covered in fire, but it did burn him. Ovis was covered in the Flames of Hope. The Flames of Hope were once just a legend. They are said to live in the heart of a true hero and come out in a time of need and to do a deed of great good. Ovis charged at Malus and Malus disintegrated at his touch. He caught Tree and he got down safely. All Contagions in the world then instantly disintegrated as well, for Malus was their life energy. Everyone woke up, and Sir John said, "I saved us." Uno then said, "No, only true hero save us. Ovis is rescuer." Everyone celebrated. They walked through the rest of the lair and went outside. "We made boys." Minor said with satisfaction. "Tree likes the warmth of sunshine." Tree said softly. Ovis then said with joy, "We made it out of the dark and into the light. The over world is beautiful, and the warm sunshine feels like freedom. 5 Until Spring By Catherine Lin-8 th grade Spring is when friendships bloom That's when flowers release their perfume Growing closer day by day Flowers grow towards the sun in every way Smiles grace our face And flowers fill your vase When we say goodbye The beautiful flowers die Friendships will end someday And flowers will wither away We are only left with the memories in our hearts Now we must wait until spring starts The Face Behind By Emily Reuter-8 th grade Calista Burke-6 th grade Once upon a time, there was this girl who made the perfect mask for herself. By doing so, she was loved by many and treated like royalty. After a few months, her mask began to crack. She pretended that nothing was wrong whilst the crack got bigger. When her mask finally broke, she was outcast by everyone. In no time, she was bullied by her "friends" and other people she didn't even know. She was hated and bullied. "Fake!" They called her. She loathed it because she knew it was true. At one point, she considered checking herself out but she stayed strong. She lived on, keeping the broken mask even though she knew it could never be fixed. BEAUTY By Keagan McGovern-6 th grade Beauty isn't about having the prettiest makeup Or the cutest outfit It's about having a kind heart A generous soul And a warm personality That's what beauty is.

6 The Tree By Francesca D Angelo-8 th grade A photograph, painting, or sculpture to some Some believe in its natural beauty Yet some still think of it as just a tree A rough terrain filled with splinters The face of an old man giving advice to his Younger relatives It sheds its leaves as a reminder to let go of the old and embrace the new Yet those memories must fall And not be shaken It is the eyes of history It marked home for our ancestors Its flora brought food The rings in its trunk show the story of each year passed Some years were bumpy Smooth the next There was a rainy year a sunny year

7 All connected at the base, Connected to the earth We are a tree Things are lost, but can be replaced Yet nothing is like the original. We like to expand our personalities Reach as far as possible Trees predict the weather A light rustle for rain Leaves turn silver for storm A tree's roots appear thin and frail Yet hold it high above us As someone sits down at their easel they are looking at a very special person Night By Maddie Herquet-8 th grade Night Mysterious, dark, Hiding, watching, waiting People fear it Why?

9 That Girl Noelle Crowley-8 th grade Why, oh, why does this happen? That girl, she s always spit on, cussed at, hit, hazed, abused. Why? Because she s different, she s odd, she s weird looking, she s not the same. Every day it s the same old thing. Why doesn t she do something? Why doesn t someone help her? Wait. Why don t I help her?
