1 The Weeping Angels By: Chad Nelson Summer of 1872, I died. 27 years young. A strange death, I must say. I was on the Swat team. I had seen many things while on the Swat team, but nothing had even come close to this. We were sent on a mission, to a cave. When we arrived, we met with a man, a man with no name. He said that there were valuable crystals in the center of the cave. But there were a few obstacles. Narrow walkways, slippery paths, and the worst thing that nobody would think of, angels. Not just any angels, weeping angels. They weren't the good kind. They were here millions of years before humans. They protect the

2 very valuable crystals. Their statues. But they don't stay in one spot too long. There are hundreds of them. But the man with no name had to have the crystals. He wouldn't tell us why, it was none of our business, but I was curious. I was the most curious out of all the other men. But that's not what this is about. He signed for us to go in. We formed a line and had flashlights on. Angels couldn't do anything in the light. If the lights went out, There would be trouble. We started into the cave, it was dark, but the flashlights helped a little. As soon as we went in, it got

3 really narrow. Once we were all in the tight space, we couldn't turn around. So we went on. We walked the narrow path for about 10 minutes. Then it widened. We gathered together for a head count, somebody was missing. I look back, and saw a statue, its arm was around one of our guys. He was dead. We pause to think. Think about a plan. Apparently these statues are much more dangerous than we had anticipated. But we wondered why a statue had attacked us while our flashlights were on. We needed light, but maybe we also needed to be able to see them. It attacked him from behind. He couldn't see the statue coming. This meant that we needed to have our eyes everywhere. How could we blink? We couldn't. It's not about light, it's about us seeing them. If we wanted to survive, we would have to take turns blinking. We moved on with the plan. The center of the

4 tunnel was only a few hundred feet. But there were still hundreds of angels there. The man with no name was outside the cave. He told us that he would have a way out of the cave when we got the crystals. We could only hope that there was a way out. The line is stopped by a sharp cry. There was no one else but us in the cave. So who was it? We scattered everywhere searching for someone. We forgot that we couldn't blink. We heard a big BANG! We paused and looked in the corners of our eyes as we saw a statue, it had one of our men. We soon realized that there was no one in the cave, the weeping angels had tricked us. From now on, we could keep them from playing with our minds. With 2 men down, we started walking. There was only about 50 feet left. We could make it. We started speed walking, trying to avoid shadows or noises that could make us lose focus. I could see the center! The crystals were lighting up the cave. But then, with the blink of an eye, it's pitch darkness, flashlight flickering, stomping, pandemonium. The light came on, it was silent. We looked at the opening to the center, an army of angels, blocking our way into the cave. We huddled up. There was only one thing to do. Blink. If we blink, they will move towards us, making a passage towards the opening. So we counted down. 1, 2, 3. We closed our eyes for five seconds. The

5 longest five seconds of my life. We opened our eyes. Everybody jumps in shock! Everyone is face to face with the statues. We could not blink from here to the center. We slowly move pass the angels and slip into the opening. We were there, the crystals were in reach of us. But my eyes were twitching and I couldn't hold it no more, I blink, and that's all I remember. I was dead. But as I looked down on my men, they grab the crystals and stuff them into a bag for the man with no name. Bang! The cave is shaking and dust is everywhere. The dust got in everybody's eyes, they were forced to blink. The weeping angels got everyone but one guy. And that one guy, was the weakest of them all. He was uncertain on what to do. So as the dust cleared and the angels are stationary, a light cracks through the dust and a shadow forms. It was the man with no name, he blasted a whole in the wall. He was rescued. The man with no name got his crystals, and the weakest of them all, became the bravest of them all.
