12 What are the common points in these texts? The three main characters are most times young women. The action in these texts is set in wild, isolated, remote, deserted, dark and gloomy places. The general atmosphere conveyed in these passages is gloomy (sometimes spooky and eerie), mysterious, stifling and oppressive. That s why the characters feel worried, anxious, fearful and even upset. One character is lost or desperate. Women are vulnerable, naïve = gullible and try to escape from a sinister villain. It is often a matter of life and death.
