Find out more: Fees and funding: Visit us: Why study engineering geology and geotechnics at Portsmouth? A number of prestigious industrial bursaries are awarded each year, which give financial support of 1,750 per year plus salaried vacation employment and third-year placement and training. We have the highest number of academic engineering geology staff members of any university in the UK and we are the only university in the UK to offer this degree as a sandwich course at undergraduate level. This course provides you with the technical expertise and confidence to be an integral part of engineering projects related to the design and construction of underground infrastructure, such as tunnels or mine excavations; surface infrastructure, such as dams, bridges or road and rail structures; or offshore structures, such as oil and gas platforms and windfarms. Our graduates are highly sought after by companies working in support of the civil, mining or petroleum industries, both in the UK and overseas, with many graduates going on to secure senior roles within large international organisations. This course is the first step to you becoming a professional, chartered engineering geologist or geotechnical engineer. Graduates will have an excellent employability profile and great links with industry. Engineering geology and geotechnics has been taught at the University of Portsmouth for almost 50 years. You can study this unique degree as a traditional three-year course or as a fouryear sandwich. Placements can be taken in the UK, Europe or further afield. Current placement students have found excellent opportunities in the UK, South Africa and Australia in the civil, mining and offshore energy sectors.

9 Course content and structure The course is taught through a mixture of lectures, workshops, laboratory practicals and a number of UK and overseas fieldtrips where key skills can be developed and applied.
