5 Introductions WELCOME Chris Jack Why a career in Engineering Geology? Bit of an accident in many respects! However, also; interested in science and engineering; wanted to do something applied and obviously useful; opportunity to help people with their engineering problems and colleagues with their careers; constantly learning; frequently working on challenging problems; I love the outdoors; opportunities to travel; I get to work with some great people.
6 What we do key responsibilities Identify, investigate, quantify, risk assess, monitor & mitigate engineering geological hazards & risks Develop value engineered solutions to minimise or eliminate engineering geological hazards & risks Deliver quality, on time, on budget and in a safe manner using the correct standards & guidelines Mentor junior colleagues & promote importance of Continuing Professional Development
7 What we do - coverage Highways Railways Airports Ports & harbours River & coastal management Dams Caverns Tunnels & shafts Wind farms Buildings All aspects of construction essentially Desk & feasibility studies Walkover surveys & mapping GI planning & supervision Ground modelling Calculations & software Geotechnical design reports Technical specifications & drawings Construction supervision Tenders & contracts Financial planning & management Resource management & mentoring Expert witness
