ASX RELEASE 4 May 2012 Injune Thermal Coal Project Maiden Resource Statement Highlights: Maiden Resource Statement for the Injune Thermal Coal Project with the following JORC classification: A total Resource of 826.9Mt of Walloon Coal Measures Measured and Indicated Resource of 155.5Mt Inferred Resource of 671.4Mt Initial quality testing indicates Walloon Coal Measures will produce a low ash, high yield thermal coal Aquila Resources Limited (ASX:AQA the Company or Aquila ) is pleased to announce a maiden Resource Statement for the Injune Thermal Coal Project Area ( Injune or the Project ). The Project is located in the Surat Basin in southern Central Queensland and is adjacent to the town of Injune. The Project is situated across four tenements, however, only Cornwall and Bendoba have been sufficiently defined by drilling to warrant classification as a JORC Resource. The remaining two tenements, Box Creek and Forest Vale, are contiguous to the west (see Figure 1). The four tenements are held by Argos (Qld) Pty Ltd ( Argos ), a 100% owned subsidiary of the Company. Figure 1: Injune Thermal Coal Project tenements. 2 Exploration Program Three tenements each have 300 sub-blocks, with Bendoba having 240 sub-blocks. Collectively the tenements cover an area of 3,519 square kilometers. A total of 242 holes have been drilled, with coal quality testing undertaken on 66 of these holes. As a result of this core testing, coal quality parameters have been established. The tenements are close to the Warrego Highway in the south, however, infrastructure for coal transport would likely access the Wandoan Mine Railway bound for the port of Gladstone. Figure 2: Portion of the Cornwall tenement showing the intensive drilling (see Figure 1 for location). Cornwall Cornwall is near the known Bymount Coal Resource and the historic Maranoa Coal Mine. A coal Resource has been well defined with significant Measured and Indicated Resources totaling 139.7Mt. In addition, 326.3Mt of Inferred Resource has been identified in the area outlined in Figure 2. The area of the Resource in Figure 2 represents less than 20% of the total area of the tenement, indicating the potential to increase the size of the Resource through further exploration. A total of 153 holes have been drilled within the tenement, with 50 holes taking core from the main target seams. The core has been tested for quality and, in a few instances, for gas determinations. Drilling typically extends down to 100m, however, approximately 10% of holes were drilled to 200m depths to identify the potential for deeper resources. Seventy seams were identified, with 36 deemed suitable for modelling based on consistency across the tenement and thickness (greater than 0.20m). Drilling has established that the Resource gently dips to the south and is relatively flat. No significant geological structures have been located at Cornwall and the surface topography is gently undulating and has minor drainage across the land. 2

Laboratory testing confirms that the minimum raw ash level is 5.6% with a mean of 18.3% across 240 samples (adb). Given these parameters, some of the Resource could potentially bypass any beneficiation process. Minimum Volatile Matter is 26.8% (adb) with a mean of 39.4%. Mean GCV are MJ/kg and 6,056 kcal/kg (adb). Washed coal would target products of 10% to 14% ash, with laboratory yields in excess of 90%. Washability tests clearly indicate that the Walloon Coal Measures are low ash, high yield products. Bendoba Bendoba has three Resource areas (see Figure 3). A coal Resource has been defined, with an Indicated Resource of 15.8Mt and an Inferred Resource of 345.1Mt. Exploration at Bendoba will continue to upgrade the existing Resource and identify additional economic areas of coal resource. A total of 67 holes have been drilled in the area, with 16 of these holes taking core from the main target seams. The core has been tested for quality and in a few instances, for gas determinations. Drilling typically extends down to 100m, however, approximately 10% of holes were drilled to 200m to identify the potential for deeper resources. Eighty nine seams were identified, of which 41 seams were deemed suitable for modelling based on consistency across the tenement and thickness (greater than 0.20m). Drilling has established that the Resource gently dips to the south and east and is relatively flat. No significant geological structures have been identified at Bendoba. The surface topography is gently undulating and has minor drainage across the land and in the west, a topographical high is present in the form of the Great Dividing Range. Figure 3: Location of the three initial Resource areas within the Bendoba tenement. Laboratory testing confirms that the minimum raw ash level is 5.0% with a mean of 15.7% across 80 samples (adb). It is anticipated that some of the Resource could potentially bypass any beneficiation process. The mean Volatile Matter is 41.0% (adb) and the coal has an average GCV of MJ/kg and 6352 kcal/kg (adb). 3

Washed coal would target products of 10% to 14% ash, with laboratory yields in excess of 90%. Washability tests clearly indicate that the Walloon Coals are low ash, high yield products. A feature of the Cornwall and Bendoba deposits is that weathering is comparatively shallow with fresh coal often located at less than 10m depth with coal identified above the weathering profile having been excluded from the Resource estimate. The prospective Resources are shallow (seam sub-crop from 5m) to moderate depth (200m drilling extent). Box Creek Twenty two open holes have been drilled at Box Creek with investigations ongoing into the thickness and number of coal seams to determine likely areas of reportable Resource. The Walloon Coal Measures are present in this area and additional exploration is progressing. Forest Vale Drilling within Forest Vale has recently commenced. The work is very broad scale, aiming to identify the thickness and number of coal seams to determine likely areas of reportable Resource. The Walloon Coal Measures are present in this area and additional exploration is progressing. Figure 4: Combined seam thickness plot of coal from the surface to 50m depth of the modelled area at Cornwall. Resource Statement The Resource Statement has been prepared over the identified Resources in Cornwall and Bendoba tenements where drilling has identified good quality thermal coal seams (see Table 1). The Resource Statement has been prepared with the knowledge and under the requirements of both the JORC Code and the Australian Guidelines for Estimating and Reporting of Inventory Coal, Coal Resources and Coal Reserves (see Appendix A, for comments regarding the JORC Code). 4

For reporting purposes, the tenements have been separated however the Company works on the premise that the four tenements are one Project area. At this time, no Resource Statements have been calculated for either Forest Vale or Box Creek, presenting an overall combined Resource for the Company s Injune Project of 826.9Mt of thermal coal. Table 1: Injune Project Resource Statement Cornwall (Mt) Bendoba (Mt) Total (Mt) Measured Indicated Inferred Total Future Work Exploration in the Surat Basin is on-going with the aim of proving additional Coal Resources across the Project area. Exploration will target broad scale drilling across Box Creek and Forest Vale and improved resource classification with infill drilling within Cornwall and Bendoba. Tony Poli Executive Chairman For further information regarding this announcement, please contact Tony Poli. Telephone: (08) Facsimile: (08) address: mail@aquilaresources.com.au Visit us at: The information in this announcement that relates to the Resource Statement has been based on information compiled by Mr Rod Doyle, who is a full-time employee of Aquila Resources Limited. He is a qualified Geologist (BSc Geology UOW 1978 and MAppSc UNSW 1988) with some 30 years of experience in coal geology, coal mining and resource evaluation. He is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and qualifies as a Competent Person under the JORC Code. Mr Doyle holds shares in Aquila Resources Limited. Mr Doyle consents to the inclusion in the announcement of the matters based on the information in the form and context in which it appears. Appendix A below presents comments specific to the JORC Code s Table 1. 5

Appendix A Estimation Parameters - JORC Table 1 Comments Sampling Techniques and Data Sampling Techniques. All coal seams are sub-surface, core sampling for coal quality work took place via 4C (100mm) coring methods. Drilling Techniques. Blade bits and hammers are used to construct open holes (sections) and core barrels are used to recover coal core to industry established standards. Drill Sample Recovery. Industry standard techniques are used for sampling. In open holes representative samples are taken and all core is logged. Core was obtained by 4C (100mm) diameter coring techniques using triple tube operations providing excellent recovery. Recovery standards are high and typically attain 100%. Re-drills are required if target coal seams fail to obtain 95% recovery rates. Logging. All holes are geologically logged. All holes are geophysically logged with a suite of tools being used. Geophysical logs are analysed extensively and used to confirm and correct geological logs. The geophysical suite of logs includes verticality logs all holes are planned to be vertical. Redrills are required if the hole is greater than 10% off verticality. Core photography is undertaken on all core and chips. Chips are also sampled. Sub-sampling Techniques and Sample Preparation. All coal core (including roof and floor dilution sample) is sampled and placed into labelled bags to ensure proper Chain of Custody. It is then transported to the laboratory for testing purposes. The laboratory continues with the Chain of Custody requirements. Quality of Assay Data and Laboratory Tests. The sample selection is determined in-house at the Company and reviewed by external coal quality consultants. The latter also develop the procedures for the coal testing. Australian Standards are used for all laboratory testing. One single lab has been undertaking the analysis. They use systematic QA/QC procedures for all work and recently have become NATA registered. Results are reviewed both externally and in-house to ensure the accuracy of the data. The laboratory has been inspected by the Company s personnel. Verification of sampling and assaying. Pilot holes are used to assist with minimising coring distances. All holes are geophysically logged and verification of seam details is made. Assessments of coal intersections are undertaken by both the Company s geologists and external contract geologists. Geophysics allows confirmation of the presence of coal seams. Core photography provides evidence of samples taken. Sample sheets are developed in-house and reviewed externally with a final check by the laboratory, prior to testing. An external expert provides the specific testing programme to be undertaken for coal. Location of Data Points. All boreholes are set out using GPS technology and then formally surveyed by external professional contract surveyors. Any significant variation between the two measurements is investigated. The holes are located with a high degree of precision in three dimensions. Work is undertaken to Australian Standards. Data Spacing and Distribution. Initial broad scale exploration may be up to 2000m apart, but overall bores are nominally spaced at 250, 500m or 1000m depending on target seams and the evolutionary stage of the exploration programme. Ongoing exploration will continue to see the spacing reduced and the resource confidence levels improved. Orientation of Data in Relation to Geological Structure. All holes are aimed to be vertical to minimise any bias in obtaining information. Verticality surveys are also undertaken. In the Surat Basin dips of the seam are known to be very low and would not cause bias when it comes to seam thickness. Audits or Reviews. Data integrity of all data; geological, survey, geophysical and laboratory information is reviewed before importing into the Company s data base system. The Company is in the process of converting to GBIS for storage of data base information. Reporting of Exploration Results Mineral Tenement and Land Tenure Status. The Injune Project Area consists of four tenements; Cornwall EPC1192, Bendoba EPC1190, Forest Vale EPC1191 and Box Creek EPC1203. These EPC are held 100% by the Aquila Resources Limited Group through its wholly owned subsidiary, Argos (Qld) Pty Ltd. Exploration done by other Parties. Since 2008 Aquila Resources Limited has undertaken the majority of exploration on the tenement. However, there has been historic information (water bore data base) that has contributed to an understanding for exploration that assisted in generating this Resource Statement. Geology. The area lies within the Surat Basin. The regional geology of the area is well known. Studies into local geology of the tenements have been undertaken. No major geological structure has been identified in the tenements. Coal seams that have been identified are part of the Walloon Coal Measures. Data Aggregation Methods. No weighting has been attributed to any results used in reporting these resources. For the purposes of the resource definition an open cut process has been considered for all resource recovery. A minimum thickness of 0.20m has been used for any seams. In addition if a seam was not present in 10% of boreholes drilled it was ignored from modelling. Relationship between Mineralisation Widths and Intercept Lengths. The vertical bores have seams which are for all intents and purposes flat. Diagrams. Location maps of the tenement including boreholes, resource areas, and combined seam thickness less than 50m, are the diagrams used here. The formal report has diagrams covering all suggested requirements. Balanced Reporting. In the formal Resource Report all Coal Quality data is reported in both Raw and Washed data sets with the aim to give an overall view of the nature of coal present in the tenements. Other Substantive Exploration Data. Gas data has been collected by Aquila Resources Limited on two of the Surat Basin tenements. The gas is predominantly methane (CH 4 ) although volumes at shallow depth are low. It is known that gas companies have also been exploring the area for gas at greater depths. 6

Further Work. Exploration drilling is ongoing with the aim to firm up existing resources as well as identifying additional resources. Reserve investigations need to be undertaken and studies associated with this need to worked through. Estimation and Reporting of Mineral Resources Database Integrity. Data recorded in the field is checked using Log Check, software designed to ensure data accuracy before being placed into the Company s database. Data validation and checks are undertaken both internally and by external consultants. Geological Interpretation. Geological interpretation of seam continuity is at a stage where confidence is significantly growing. The numerous coal seams intersected and the bore holes present suggest that in places confidence in the overall stratigraphy could be improved with closer spaced holes. No major geological structures have been located at this time which suggests that confidence is at a moderate level. Dimensions. The tenements are all odd in shape. Three are 300 sub-blocks in size while Bendoba is only 240 sub-blocks in size. The total area of the tenements is 3519 square kilometres. The resource areas identified are shown in this report and comparatively occupy very small percentages of the tenements. Over the entire project area the average spacing s for bores is, 1 borehole drilled every 20 square kilometres. Highlighting that there is considerable upside to locate additional resources. The Resource Statement has estimated Exploration Targets however they are not presented in this announcement for clarity s sake. Some coal seams have been identified, however only 40 odd have been used for modelling. Coal seams generally range in thickness from greater than 0.20m up to 1.5m. Depths ranging from 5m to approximately 200m. Estimation and Modelling Techniques. Modelling has been undertaken using Gemcom s Minex software by people trained in its use. Extrapolation of data does not extend past confidence levels described in the Australian Guidelines for Estimating and Reporting of Inventory Coal, Coal Resources and Coal Reserves. Moisture. Considerable work has been undertaken on moisture levels from all core, Free Moisture, Residual Moisture, Total Moisture, Moisture Holding Capacity, Inherent Moisture with up to 240 samples being measured. This has provided high confidence to determine In-Situ Moisture values. Which in turn were used to calculate In-Situ Relative Densities for tonnage calculations. The Relative Density used for tonnage calculation was Cut-off Parameters. A minimum seam thickness cut off for all seams has been 0.20m. In addition any seam identified had to be present in a minimum of 10% of boreholes in the resource to be used in modelling. The suggested product for these coals is high quality thermal. Mining Factors or Assumptions. All seams are considered suitable for open cut operations. However, underground mining operations may also be considered as more information comes to hand and as the seams get deeper. Adjacent mining tenements (other companies) have identified underground resources. To date the focus for Aquila has been on Open-Cut Resources. Metallurgical Factors or Assumptions. No assumptions have been made regarding metallurgical use. Bulk Density. No assumptions have been made regarding bulk density. Classification. As well as the JORC code the Australian Guidelines for Estimating and Reporting of Inventory Coal, Coal Resources and Coal Reserves has been adhered to in defining resource categories. Audits or Reviews. A formal/external audit of this resource will be undertaken during 2013/2014. Discussion of Relative Accuracy/Confidence. Based on the data available the degree of accuracy of this statement is moderate. The process for calculation has used; Standards, Guidelines and the JORC Code along with best practice where available to define the resource estimates provided. Estimation and Reporting of Ore Reserves No reserves have been determined at this stage of investigations. 7
