1 Ruth C. Musgrave Massachusetts Institute of Technology 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Building 3-361b Cambridge, MA 02139, USA. Web: rmusg/ Citizenships: British & Australian VISA: US J1 Research interests As a sea-going physical oceanographer I combine observational data, numerical models and theory to try to understand processes in the ocean. I am interested in the energy pathways that connect large scale forcing to small scale dissipation. In particular, I study the physical processes that form these pathways, and their influence on regional and global scales. My work focusses on a number of different areas, including tidally driven mixing, topographically trapped internal waves, quasi-steady flow-topography interactions, and high latitude physics. Education PhD (Physical Oceanography), 2015, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD, USA. Tidal interactions with topography: the effects of latitude and tidal constitution on nearfield mixing Advisors: Professors Jen MacKinnon & Rob Pinkel. Honours (Mathematics & Atmospheric Science), 1st Class, 2008, Mathematics (Atmospheric Science), Monash University, Australia. An intermediate complexity model for El Niño Southern Oscillation Supervisors: Drs Simon Clarke & Richard Wardle. BSc (Physics), 1st Class, 2005, Melbourne University, Australia. Academic Experience Postdoctoral scholar, Jan present, Environmental Dynamics Laboratory, Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Advisor: Professor Tom Peacock. A part of the Office of Naval Research funded Flow Encountering Abrupt Topography (FLEAT) project. Experimental design and deployment of Pressure Inverted Echsounders (PIES) around the island of Palau. Incorporated numerical model output, hydrography and altimetry data to design experimental plan.
