A new Oriental genus Hecabolomorpha n. gen. with the type species H. asiatica n. sp. is described and illustrated from India and Central China. The position of this genus in the tribe Hecabolini and its relations with hecaboline genera are discussed. Keywords: Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Hecabolini, new genus, South Asia. The tribe Hecabolini is one of the largest, polymorphic and possibly polyphyletic groups of subfamily Doryctinae (Belokobylskij 1992; Belokobylskij et al. 2004b). About 40 genera of this tribe are known in the world fauna (Shenefelt & Marsh 1976; Belokobylskij 1992) and among those many new ones were recently described, mostly from the Neotropical Region (Marsh 1993, 2002; Braet & Achterberg 2001; Braet et al. 2003; Barbalho & Penteado-Dias 2002). A new genus Hecabolomorpha n. gen. (with type species H. asiatica n. sp.) with a developed second radiomedial vein of the fore wing is described below from India and Central China. The terminology for wing venation follows that of Belokobylskij & Tobias (1998). The following abbreviations are used: POL postocellar line; OOL - ocular-ocellar line; Od - maximum diameter of lateral ocellus; BMNH - The Natural History Museum (London, England); ZJUH Zhejiang University (Hangzhou, China). Systematics Hecabolomorpha n. gen. Type species. H. asiaticum n. sp. Etymology. from the doryctins generic names Hecabolus and Greece morphus (shape). Gender is neutral. sb@zin.ru, xxchen@zju.edu.cn Accepté le 1 er septembre 2005 Diagnosis. Discussion The absence of the second radiomedial vein of the fore wing was for a long time the main diagnostic character of Hecabolini separating it from Doryctini (Foerster 1862; Ashmead 1900; Telenga 1941; Nixon 1943; Marsh 1965; Tobias 1961, 1971). Later some authors (Tobias 1961; Marsh 1967) showed that this vein can be present in species (as well as in some specimens of one species) of such hecaboline genera as Pareucorystes Tobias 1961 and Leluthia Ashmead 1887 (Doryctosoma Picard 1938). The revision of the almost all known genera of Doryctinae makes it possible to add a new apomorphic character for the tribe Hecabolini the postero-apically open brachial cell of the fore wing (Belokobylskij 1992). On the other hand, the lack of the second radiomedial vein as well as the presence of the complex stigma-like enlargement in hind wing of male are considered as ones of the valuable evolution tendencies of hecaboline genera (Belokobylskij 1992). This opinion has been supported by descriptions of new genera of this tribe from the Neotropical Region (Marsh 1993, 2002; Braet & Achterberg 2001; Braet et al. 2003), where many hecaboline genera with a welldeveloped second radiomedial vein have been recorded. Interestingly, at least 2 genera of the tribe Doryctini described recently (Belokobylskij 2002, 2005) are characterized by complete reduction of this vein, normally presented in the most doryctine genera. The last finding makes the distinctions between these two large polymorph and related tribes more complicated. Except for listed upper related genera, the new genus described here is similar to the almost cosmopolitan Leluthia Cameron 1887 (Marsh 1967; Belokobylskij et al. 2004a), but differs in having the first mediocubital abscissa of hind wing short and submedial cell small, the recurrent vein of fore wing distinctly postfurcal, the second tergite with posteriorly divergent lateral furrows, and the vertex with peculiar setosity. Hecabolomorpha n. gen. can be distinguished from cosmopolitan Monolexis Foerster 1862 in having the first mediocubital abscissa of hind wing short and submedial cell small, the second radiomedial vein distinct, the second tergite with posteriorly divergent lateral furrows, the vertex and mesoscutum with peculiar setosity, the vertex finely punctulate, and the body elongate. The new genus distinctly differs from the Palaearctic genus Pareucoryctes Tobias 1961 (Tobias 1961) in having the first mediocubital abscissa of hind wing short and submedial cell small, the second tergite without posterior additional transverse furrow, the body not depressed, the vertex and mesoscutum with peculiar setosity, the vertex finely punctulate, the hind coxa with a distinct basoventral tooth, and the pronotum weakly convex dorsally. Of the Neotropical hecaboline genera, Hecabolomorpha n. gen. is also similar to Donquickeia Marsh 1993, Polystenoides Muesebeck 1950, Glyptocolastes Ashmead 1900, and Johnsonius Marsh 1993 (Marsh 1993, 1999, 2002). The new genus differs from Donquickeia Marsh in lacking the pronotal carina, a having the radial vein arising before middle of pterostigma, the second tergite with posteriorly divergent lateral furrows, the laterotergites separated on the second-sixth tergites, the sternauli long, the vertex and mesopleuron almost smooth, and the vertex and mesoscutum covered by peculiar dense pubescence. Hecabolomorpha n. gen. differs from Polystenoides Muesebeck in having the pronotum weakly convex dorsally, the mesoscutum rather highly and almost perpendicularly raised above pronotum, the recurrent vein of fore wing not antefurcal, the second tergite shorter and with posteriorly divergent furrows, the propodeum with areas delineated by carinae, the vertex and mesoscutum covered by peculiar dense pubescence. The new genus differs from Glyptocolastes Ashmead in having the first mediocubital abscissa of hind wing short and submedial cell small, the third tergite without transverse furrow, the recurrent vein of fore wing not antefurcal, the first flagellar segment longer than second segment, the propodeum with areas delineated by carinae, the vertex smooth, and the vertex and mesoscutum covered by peculiar dense pubescence. At last, Hecabolomorpha n. gen. differs from Johnsonius Marsh in having the first flagellar segment longer than the second segment, the recurrent vein not antefurcal, the spines of the fore tibia arranged in one row, the second tergite with posteriorly divergent lateral furrows, the vertex smooth, and the vertex and 110
