Its depth varies from 2 to 6 meters reaching at some points over 10 meters. The Channel has coastal plains in its margins, covered by mangroves. In the area between Santo Amaro Island and the Continent there is a mixing of continental waters from rivers and marine waters, prevailing the formation of estuarine conditions this region being a low energy area, improves the development of the mangroves. In São Paulo, mangroves at the Baixada Santista are the most impacted, receiving oil spills, domestic and industrial wastes, suffering landfills and deforestation. The relationships with the environment generally defines limits to different species of ostracods, making possible that local variations in the composition of ostracods associations be related with the physicochemical modifications occurring in the water column or at the sediment. In order to characterize the transitions occurring in subenvironments at the Channel, the systematic identification of Ostracoda assemblages and granulometric analysis and organic Carbon content were correlated with physical parameters like: temperature, salinity, ph, O 2. 2 samples were taken along the Channel in the winter of 17, from those 22 showed some Ostracoda fauna, in a total of 152 organisms represented by single valves or complete carapaces, distributed in 2 Genera and 1 Species, although, only the Stations with more than 40 individuals were used to correlation statistical analysis. The barren places to benthic ostracods were also used in statistical analysis to verify if there is a correlation of the absence with the physicochemical parameters. From PEQ R STU all V TWW the X YV species Z S[ W X found three are the most important: CED FGIH J H FFKLEM NIO FK FK (Sanguinetti, 17), (van den Bold, 16) and \E] ^ _`a b `c d e f `^Eg hii je je (Sanguinetti et al., 12). Several authors (Puri, H. S. & Hulings, N. C., 157; van Morkoven, F. P. C. M., 16; King, C. E. & Korniker, L. C., 170; Sanguinetti et al., 12) have concluded that kel m nop q or is a high tolerant genus supporting a wide range of physicochemical conditions, being found in all kind of coastal environments from limnic to hypersaline lagoons. It is also considered that most of the species in the genera inhabit brackish (mesopolyhaline) environments. set uviw x w uuy is a typical genus of the epineritic coastal zone. ze{ }I~ ~ E ƒi showed a distribution restricted to the open sea Channel area (Stations 20, 22 to 2), although numerically is the most abundant (406 specimens, 20,% of the total fauna). E ˆ Š Œ Ž E I Ž Ž and E š œ š ž Ÿ œ are distributed all along the Channel and in 41% of the stations (Stations 2, 5 to, 11, 12, 14 and 15) the only species found. Another well distributed species is I ª «Ï «(Coimbra, Careno e Ferron, 14) found in 45% of the stations (Stations 1, 1 to 20, 22 to 27), with a total of 271 specimens or 1,% of the total fauna, being the most abundant in 5 stations: 1, 22 to 24, 27. This specie was firstly described in Sepetiba Bay, R. J., as a wide range eurihaline species. Ostracod associations vary from 1 to 2 species in composition per station, and were found ranging from 1 to 6 specimens in 100 grams of sediment. The Channel is divided in distinct sedimentary environments, changing from a sandy bottom (Stations 1, 2, 17, 1, 2 to 2) and places that accumulated fine grains (Stations 5 to 16, 1, 20, 22). Subenvironments were defined by the statistical comparation of associations found in near stations (17 individuals as a minimal fauna) and taking the similarity index obtained to divide the Channel in 12 groups (biotypes). The sedimentological characteristics (granulometry and organic carbon) separate some stations grouped by the similarity index resulting in 14 microenvironments found along the Channel. 2 Statistical analysis using the BrayCurtis coefficient and grouping by weight point (WPGMA) in Q and R mode showed 6 Stations groups and 5 Species groups with low similarity. Apparently there are no significant difference between the barren area and the near Station, no physicochemical value explains the absence of fauna in this places.
